In human walking, muscle co-contraction which produces simultaneous activities of multiple muscles is important in motor control mechanism of the central nervous system. This study aims to understand positive and negative covariation mechanism of inter-muscle activities during walking. In this study, we measured electromyography (EMG) in leg muscles. To identify motor modules, we recored EMG from 4 leg muscles bilaterally (the tibialis anterior, medial gastrocnemius, rectus femoris and medial hamstring muscles) and performed non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) and principa component analysis (PCA). Then, we computed covariation values from various combinations between muscles or motor modules and used two-way repeated measures analysis of variance to identify significantly different covariation patterns between muscle combinations. As the results, we found significant differences between covariation values of muscle combinations (p < 0.05). muscle groups within the same motor modules produced the positive covariations. However, there were strong negative covariation between motor modules. There was negative covariation in all muscle combination. Stable inter-module negative covariation suggests that motor modules may be the control unit in the complex motor coordination.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changing plantar foot pressure and muscle activation of neck, lumbar and low limb by different way of the using carrier during walking. Twenty healthy and young females who brought up infants and had no musculoskeletal disorders of neck, lumbar and low limb were instructed to perform plantar foot pressure and muscle activation of neck, lumbar and low limb during different ways of the using the carrier and walking. Plantar foot pressures were recorded by RS-scan system(RS scan Ltd, German), muscle activation were recorded by ProComp infinitiTM(Thought Technology Ltd, Canada). The data collected by each way of the using carrier and One-way ANOVA was used to analyze. The results indicated that there was a significant increase on erector spinae muscle activation and pressure of great toe zone by using anterior carrier and there was a increase on activation of paraspinal muscle and metatarsal zone by using posterior carrier. Therefore, the way of using carrier could be influenced upon structure and function of the foot and muscle activation.
This study was carried out to compare the changes in the extractability, biological activity, and solubility of myofibrillar proteins and actomyosins during storage period at 4$^{\circ}C$ and -20$^{\circ}C$in pectoral. and leg muscle of broiler meat. 1. The results obtained are as fellows ; The extractabilities of myofibrillar proteins in pectoral and leg muscle were increased gradually to 7-days during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ and decreased slightly during frozen storage at -20$^{\circ}C$. The extractabilities of actomyosins in pectoral and legmuscle were not greatly changed during cold storage and decreased gradually during frozen storage. 2. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATP ase activities of myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were not greatly changed to 7-days during cold storage, and in the case of frozen storage, those were highest on the 2nd week, thereafter decreased with storage period. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATPase activities of actomyosins in pectoral and leg muscle were decreased sightly only frist day during cold storage and decreased gently during frozen storage. 3. Myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.20M KCl in fresh meat, at 0.25M (pectoral) and 0.30M KCl (leg) in the cold storage, and at 0.30M KCl in the frozen storage. Actomyosins of both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.40M KCl in fresh meat, cold and frozen storage.
This study was designed as a part of efforts to investigate the biochemical pollutant markers for diagnosis of maine pollutions by changes in cholinesterase activity of the flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)in Yellow Sea of Korea. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities in brain and muscle of cultured flounders in Yellow Sea were remarkably lower (40-50% and 40-55%, respectively)than those of wild flounder in Pohang (control) of East Sea, but AChE activities in brain and muscle of wild flounders in Yellow Sea were significantly lower(15-40% and 25-35%, respectively)than those of wild flounder in Pohang of East Sea. Butyrylcholinesterase(BChE) activities in barin and muscle of cultured flounders in Yellow Sea were remarkably lower(70-75% and 65-75%, respectively) than those of wild flounder in Pohang of East Sea, but BChE activities in barin and muscle of wild flounders in Yellow Sea were significantly lower (15-40%and 25-35%, respectively)than those of wild flounder in Pohang of East Sea. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities in serum of cultured flounders in Yellow Sea were significantly 10-50% higher than those of wild flounder in Pohang of East Sea, but LDH activities in serum of wild flounders in Yellow Sea were significantly 20-25% higher than those of wild flounder in Pohang of East Sea. It suggests that AChE and BChE activities in brain and muscle of cultured and wild flounders of Yellow Sea may be used as the most effective mean in a biochemical markers for diagnosis of pollutant effects by organophosphorus pesticides.

The purpose of this study was to examine the muscle activation in trunk and low-limbs muscle during squat exercise on various instability surface. 10 subject performed squat with 75% of 1 repetition maximum (1RM) on a stable floor, stability blue, stability black and BOSU. Electromyographic (EMG) activity was measured trunk muscle such as rectus abdomina (RA), external obliques (EO), internal obliques (IO), multifidus (MF), and low-limbs muscle such as gluteus maximus (GMA), gluteus medius (GME), biceps femoris (BF), rectus femoris (RF), vastus medialis oblique (VMO), vastus lateral oblique (VLO), medialis gastrocnemius (MG), lateral gastrocnemius (LG), soleus (SOL) and anterior tibia (AT) when ascending and descending squat phase. One-way ANOVA repeated measure with Sheffe used to compare the muscle activity on the stable and unstable surface. Squat with BOSU ball induces higher muscle activity of IO, MF, GMA and GME compared with stability and stability blue and blackduring descending motion. Squat with BOSU ball induces higher muscle activity of GMA compared with stability and stability blue and blackduring ascending motion. This results suggested that BOSU ball in the squat could be effective increasing of trunk stability and gluteal muscle activity. However, there was no difference of squat on low-limb muscle with or without instability.

The purpose of this study was to compare muscular activities according to the mastery of Taekwondo kicking motions with the subjects of 8 demonstration team members and 8 undergraduates in Taekwondo major at University. The muscles mainly used for Taekwondo's front kick, tornado kick, or turning hook kick are total 8 trunk muscles and 8 lower limb muscles of the kicking foot as well as the supporting foot. Analyzing the muscular activities of those areas comparatively, the study has reached the following results. At the front kick, non-experts showed higher lower abdominal muscle, biceps thigh muscle activity of the kicking foot and lateral gastrocnemius muscle activity of the supporting foot but lower 2 spinals muscular activity than experts. At the tornado kick (or turning kick), in the turning motion, experts indicated higher activity in biceps muscle of thigh and spinalis than non-experts whereas in the kicking motion, they didn't show the difference between groups except biceps thigh muscle activity. At the turning hook kick, non-experts indicated higher lateral gastrocnemius muscle activity of the kicking foot and quadricpes femoris muscle activity of supporting foot muscular activity than experts. In summary, experts tend to use their trunk in the turning motion for rapid turning and show rather low muscular activity of their kicking foot. However, non-experts indicate high muscular activity in their kicking foot and supporting foot, which means to maintain balance in the kicking motion, they tend to make use of their lower limb more than trunk muscle, and it leads to an inefficient motion.
This study aimed to investigate the association of the muscle activity around the neck of the operator(dental hygienists') according to the change in the patient's neck angle during a direct visual inspection on the maxillary right-side molar palatal surface. The operators were $4^{th}$ year dental hygiene students, who are future dentalhy gienists, having accurate understanding on and awareness of the location of the operation site, hand fixation, and how to use the tools. Data on the change in the muscle activity around the neck were collected by using surface electromyography and neck goniometer. SPSS statistics 20 was used for statistical analyses including Shapiro-wilk test and one-way ANOVA. As a result, the activities of the operator upper trapezius, cervical erector spinae, and levator scapulae muscles significantly decreased when the patient's head was angled compared to when it was not. For the angle of the operator head, the head bend significantly decreased when the patient's head was angled than when it was not. Based on the study results, it is expected that angling the patient's head when treating his or her teeth will decrease the excessive muscle activity around the neck of the operator, and will reduce muscle fatigue. Therefore, angling the head of the patient while treating his or her teeth is recommended. This suggests that muscle pain caused by repetitive actions in the wrong posture can be reduced.
