The corneal power and eye refraction error were studed in 472 unaccommodated right eyes of Korean adult human aged above 20 years. The mean corneal refractive power is 44.08D (female : 44.28D, male : 43.76D). It is 1.1D higher than that of the medel eye by Gullstrand (about 43.0D). The mean corneal power of myopia(44.11D) is similar that of emmetropia(43.97D) and hyperopia(44.24D), but mean corneal power of myopia between the ages of 20 and 29 is 1.42D higher than that of emmetropia. The corneal powers as a function of ages are enlarged with increasing rate of 0.2D~0.3D/10years.
This research was investigated to find out the examinees' refractive problems within heterophoria using Torrington method. The number of subjects ware approximately 327 and subjects were sourced from the 12th grade student at high school in Kwang-Ju city. Result obtained shows 21.4% of emmetropia and 78.6% of ametropia. Most of refractive errors were myopia and due to it's condition, frequency of ametropia and emmetropia at the similar rate. However, one that consist of refractive problems, it's myopia contains 74.9% of heterophoria. Due to emmetropia, horizontal heterophoria have 45.7% of exophoria and 4.3% of esophoria. Myopia shows 11.4% of esophoria and 63.5% of exophoria. Hozizonda heterophoria shows 5.7% of emmetropia and myopia of 22.4%, than average of esophoria shows $4.3P{\Delta}$ and case of myopia, it was $3.4P{\Delta}$. Case of Exphoria, emmetropia have $8.8P{\Delta}$ and within myopia $8.0P{\Delta}$. Vertical heterophoria owns $2.2P{\Delta}$ within emmetropia and case of myopia $4.3P{\Delta}$ was shown. Which shows myopia result value higher than emmetropia.

Purpose : We investigated the change of spherical and comma aberrations after wearing aspheric soft contact lens (ASCL) in young myopes. Methods : Fifty young myopes ($23.15{\pm}1.70years$, spherical equivalent: $-2.90{\pm}1.75D$) were recruited and refractive errors were corrected using ASCL (Biotrue, Bausch+Lomb, USA). High order aberrations were measured in the 4 mm pupil size using the wavefront analyze and pupil sizes were measured with a pupillometer at the modes of scotopic condition (light off) at 3.5 m in the 100 lx illuminance condition. Results : Spherical aberrations and coma aberration of the 20s myopes were $0.026{\pm}0.031{\mu}m$ and $0.078{\pm}0.039{\mu}m$ respectively, and $0.019{\pm}0.026{\mu}m$ and $0.082{\pm}0.038{\mu}m$ after ASCL wear that spherical aberration was decreased and coma aberration was increased. However, spherical aberration was decreased in the 68% of the subject have positive spherical aberration, and increased in the 11% of the subject have negative spherical aberration. Coma aberration was increased in the 53% of the subject, did not change in the 19% of the subjects, and decreased in the 28% of the subject. Spherical aberration was not different with the refractive errors in low and moderate myopies, however, coma aberrations was higher in the higher myopes. Conclusion : In a scotopic condition without accommodation stimuli, spherical aberration is decreased after wearing ASCL, however in the subject have negative spherical aberration spherical aberration could be increased, and which is thought to be the influence of contact lens design and pupil size.
The aim of this study was to provide data for the relief of asthenopia during binocular vision by determining the characteristics of ocular function in adults. A total of 260 subjects were between the age of 19-35years. We measured individually the refractive error correction, pupillary distance, optical center distance, phoria, convergence, accommodation and the AC/A as well as the asthenopia during binocular vision using a questionnaire. After analysis of factors affecting asthenopia, we also examined the reductive effect of asthenopia in subjects who had asthenopia using prism. To determine the factors affecting asthenopia during binocular vision, statistic analyses were carried out the multivariate Logistic regression model. The results of this study were as follow. The asthenopia during binocular vision was found 26.9% of subjects. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine factors affecting binocular vision of myopia. When the accommodation and convergence were low compared to being high, when subjects had esophoria or there was more exophoria, and when AC/A was lower than the standard, the rate of asthenopia was higher. Therefore the accommodation, convergence and AC/A could be predictive factors for asthenopia. We used prism for subjects who had asthenopia during binocular vision, the results showed that the symptom of asthenopia was eased up to 74.3%.
Purpose: This research was performed to measure and analyze scotopic pupil size in myopes and to figure out the factors that influence it. Methods: The pupil size of 191 healthy myopic subjects were measured with the pupillometer (Colvard pupillometer, OASIS medical, USA) in scotopic and analyzed with the age, corneal size, spherical equivalent refractive error, corneal curvature. In addition, it was compared with the measurements of intra-examiner and inter-examiner to verify reproducibility of pupillometer. Results: The mean (${\pm}$SD) scotopic pupil size was $6.64{\pm}0.68$ mm (range, 5.00~8.00 mm), the lower age and the larger corneal size, The bigger the pupil size. The lower spherical equivalent refractive error and steepper corneal curvature tends to be smaller. The reproducibility of intra-examiner and inter-examiner in pupillometer showed the reliability highly (Guttman splithalf point > 0.91). Conclusions: The pupil size associated with age, corneal size, spherical equivalent refractive error and corneal curvature in scotopic condition. It can refer to prevent inconvenience that may occur RGP contact lenses, cataract surgery and refractive surgery.

Purpose: Average of the maximum accommodation amplitude of myopia in different generation, early 20's and early 40's were compared according to gender, degree of myopia. Methods: Maximum amplitude of accommodation for each 100 patients of early 20's and 40's were measured with push-up method. Maximum amplitude of accommodation expectations based on Hofstetter formula were classified into three groups of under, normal and excess. Results: The average of amplitude of accommodation was 9.77~11.64 D $(10.77{\pm}2.49D)$ in early 20's and 4.67~6.21 D $(5.34{\pm}1.28D)$ in early 40's. In early 20's, minimum expectations of amplitude of accommodation for under, normal and excess groups were 20%, 75%, and 5%, repectively. In early 40's, excess and under groups were 5% and 18%, repectively, but there was no excess group. Conclusions: According to increasing age, amplitude of accommodation of both age groups showed decreased, and no significant difference was found in degree of myopia with gender. Difference between mean of expected accommodation amplitude and maximum of accommodation amplitude was compared, and it was found that maximum of accommodation amplitude of 20's was smaller than mean of expected accommodation. From the result, it was expected that people in early 20's who have more working times might have festinated accommodative insufficiency than 40's.
Purpose: The purposes of this study are to investigate accommodative response among emmetropes, spectacle wearer and contact lens wearer, and correlation between refractive error and accommodative respons for each group. Methods: The 72 subjects(144 eyes) who do not have any ocular diseases were participate in this study. Subjects were categorized into emmetropes, spectacle wearer and contact lens wearer by refractive error using closed-field auto-refractometer. We measured dominant eye, naked/habitual visual acuity and refractive error of monocular/binocular vision of refractive error for far/near distance with open-field auto-refractometer and calculated accommodative lag. Results: There were no significant difference of accommodative lag between right and left eye dominant and non-dominant eye, monocular and binocular vision, and spectacle lens wearer and contact lens wearer, However the accommodative lag of binocular vision was severe than monocular vision at near. The lag of myopia was larger than emmetropes, and male was larger than female. Significant correlation was found between refractive error and accommodative lag in total subjects and the same result was found in emmetropes and contact lens wearer. However there were no significant correlation in the spectacle wearer. Conclusions: There were significant difference between emmetrops and myopes in terms of accommodative lag, however accommodative lag of spectacle wearer was not different with contact lens wearer in myopes. There were also significant correlation between refractive error and accommodative lag in emmetropes and contact lens wearer, but the accommodative lag of spectacle wearer was not significantly correlated with refractive error.
We evaluated the contour using corneal asphericity of the myopic cornea in Korea and investigated the relationship between refractive error and other ocular dimensions in Korean myopia, including anterior chamber depth and asphericity. The monoocular asphericity value of 50 myopes with $-4.83{\pm}2.38$ D between early 20 age and early 30 age in adult was included. Cycloplegic refraction, corneal asphericity and anterior chamber depth using corneal topography were examined. The mean asphericity values were$-0.27{\pm}0.13$ and the corneas of 96.0% were prolate ellipse. Refractive error was related to asphericity and anterior chamber depth among myopes. However, asphericity only were significant difference in high and low myopia group. Corneal configuration on the contact lens fits are discussed. We think that the longitudinal study for myopia and asphericity was required.
