The scaling properties on the length distribution of microcrack populations from Tertiary crystalline tuff are investigated. From the distribution charts showing length range with 15 directional angles and five groups(I~V), a systematic variation appears in the mean length with microcrack orientation. The distribution charts are distinguished by the bilaterally symmetrical pattern to nearly N-S direction. The whole domain of the length-cumulative frequency diagram for microcrack populations can be divided into three sections in terms of phases of the distribution of related curves. Especially, the linear middle section of each diagram of five groups represents a power-law distribution. The frequency ratio of linear middle sections of five groups ranges from 46.6% to 67.8%. Meanwhile, the slope of linear middle section of each group shows the order: group V($N60{\sim}90^{\circ}E$, -2.02) > group IV($N20{\sim}60^{\circ}E$, -1.55) > group I($N60{\sim}90^{\circ}W$, -1.48), group II($N10{\sim}60^{\circ}W$, -1.48) > group III($N10^{\circ}W{\sim}N20^{\circ}E$, -1.06). Five sub-populations(five groups) that closely follow the power-law length distribution show a wide range in exponents( -1.06 - -2.02). These differences in exponent among live groups emphasizes the importance of orientation effect. In addition, breaks in slope in the lower parts of the related curves represent the abrupt development of longer lengths, which is reflected in the decrease in the power-law exponent. Especially, such a distribution pattern can be seen from the diagram with $N10{\sim}20^{\circ}E,\;N10{\sim}20^{\circ}W$ and $N60{\sim}70^{\circ}W$ directional angles. These three directional angles correspond with main directions of faults developed around the study area. The distribution chart showing the individual characteristics of the length-cumulative frequency diagrams for 15 directional angles were made. By arraying above diagrams according to the categories of three groups(A, B and C), the differences in length-frequency distributions among these groups can be easily derived. The distribution chart illustrates the importance of analysing microcrack sets separately. From the related chart, the occurrence frequency of shorter microcracks shows the order: group A > group B > group C. These three types of distribution patterns could reveal important information on the processes occurred during microcrack growth.
Seventy two isolates of Cordyceps militaris collected from 11 sites in Korea, including two isolates from ATCC, were used to assess genetic variation within Cordyceps militaris. The anamorph stage and cultural characteristics of C. militaris were observed through microscope and investigated on PDA respectively. The anamorphs of C. militaris were identified to be Verticillium. Isolates of C. militaris showed different growth rates, morphology and color. Fifty six isolates of single ascospore and seventy two isolates of mass ascospore from C. militaris were analysed using by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) for genetic relationship analysis. Fifty six single ascospore isolates fell into two groups by phenogram constructed from distance values using the UPGMA method in NTSYS-pc software: group A from artificial fruit body of C18 except for isolate 51; group B from artificial fruit body of C738. The average genetic distance value within group A is 0.150 and group B is 0.163. The average genetic distance value between the two groups is 0.221. The average genetic distance value within 56 single ascospores is 0.207 and 72 mass ascospores is 0.330. Genetic relationships were not found among 72 mass ascospore isolates obtained from eleven geographically distant populations.
This study investigated the phylogenetic classification and pathogenicity of 6 infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) strains isolated from salmonid fish in Gangwon-do, Korea. Based on the nucleotide sequence of mid-G region, all six strains belong to J genotype, of which 5 are J-Nagano type and 1 J-Shizuoka type. In a challenge test, 5 isolates of J-Nagano type IHNV showed a various mortalities as 2 isolates induced a high mortality of 100% and the other 3 isolates induced mortalities of 50, 30, and 20% after intraperitoneal injection in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Meanwhile no mortality was occurred by 1 isolate of J-Shizuoka type virus. Thus, it seems that there might be no relation between genotype and pathogenicity within IHNV J genotypes. This is contrary to previous studies where reported a higher pathogenicity of J-Shizuoka type virus than J-Nagano type virus in rainbow trout. Further examination will be required to clarify this since only one J-Shizuoka type virus was analyzed in this study.

Three strains of infectious bronchitis viruses (IBVs), designated VNUA3, VNUA8 and VNUA11, were isolated from diseased/infected chickens in Hanoi, Thainguyen, and Haiphong provinces of Vietnam. These birds had received a live IBV vaccination but still suffered from infectious bronchitis. VNUA3, VNUA8 and VNUA11 harbor cleavage sites (RRTGR, HRRRR, and HRRKR, respectively) within the S protein. A BLASTN search revealed that the S gene of VNUA3, VNUA8, and VNUA11 showed the highest nucleotide identity with those of IBV strains CK/Italy/I2022/13, CK/CH/LHLJ/08-6, and GX-NN120084, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses based on the S gene nucleotide sequences revealed that VNUA3, VNUA8 and VNUA11 clustered with Q1-like, QX-like and TC07-2-like genotypes, respectively, and were closely related to reference IBV strains from China. However, the Vietnam IBVs showed high divergence from vaccine strains 4/91 and Ma5, which are used in the Vietnamese farms from which the isolates were obtained. Taken together, these results indicate that at least three genotypes of IBV are circulating among chickens in North Vietnam. This is the first report of the molecular epidemiology of IBV in Vietnam.
Cronobacter spp. (Enterobacter sakazakii) is known to be highly resistant to dry conditions than any other Enterobacteriaeae. In this study, one hundred and ten Korean Cronobacter isolates were characterized to find out their survival characteristics under conditions of desiccation and humidity. Thirty percentage strains of the isolates showed high resistance to desiccation exposed on the metal surface for eight hours by half survival of the initial number, whileas less than 10% strains showed dry sensitivity by less one log scale survival among seven log scales. Finally, more than 90% of the strains consisted of dry-resistant and dry-intermediate groups. The same tendencies were evident in a 15-day exposure. Dry-resistant and intermediate strain groups showed 3 log scale survival among 5 log initial numbers in the powdered infant formula for 30 days, which were more resistant than on the above metal surface exposed. So, almost the isolate strains showed high resistance to dry condition. Dry-resistant and intermediate groups exposed on the metal surface formed a biofilm at the beginning, and the dry-sensitive group showed biofilm formation mainly only after a 7-day exposure. However, without a time difference in formation of biofilm, the dry-resistant and sensitive isolates seemed to similar biofilm formation activity. Most of the isolates showed very low survival at 75% relative humidity in 48 hours; however, they showed high resistance by 60% survival at 40% relative humidity. The Cronobacter isolates showed high resistance to desiccation on the metal surface and in the powdered infant formula, but low survival at high relative humidity. Therefore, high humidity may be a control method for Cronobacter in food processing environments.

In this paper, we introduce a modified interference cancellation scheme for multiuser detection in CDMA. This detector uses successive interference canceller(SIC) and the divided received signal concepts. The active users are splits into two groups large signal power group and small signal power group- throughout ranking, matched filter, decision, regeneration. And each group is subtracted from the received signal respectively to obtain good BER performance. Each of the resulting signal is become respectively SICs input signal The computer simulation and analysis of structure demonstrate that the proposed SIC keeps the SICs BER performance, complexity and reduces SICs delay time.

The existing anonymous authentication schemes based on group signatures for protecting privacy do not provide anonymous authorization which is required in the practical environments. In this paper, we propose an anonymous authentication and authorization scheme that enables a service provider both to authenticate anonymously its users and to provide different service according to their authorization. In the proposed scheme, a user's real identity, anonymity and authorization are managed distinctly through the separation of group manager's capabilities and an authorization authority. It is also possible for the proposed scheme to apply various access control models.

Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae is the causal agent of bacterial canker in kiwifruit (genus Actinidia). Multilocus sequence analysis of seven housekeeping and 11 type III effector genes differentiated the virulent P. syringae pv. actinidiae isolates worldwide into three groups designated as Psa1-Psa3. In this work, a total of 12 P. syringae pv. Actinidiae strains, including three Psa1, three Psa2, three Psa3 strains isolated from Korea and three Psa3 strains from Italy, were compared based on their phenotypic properties. Strains with different geographic origins had unique growth patterns as demonstrated by growth rate at several temperatures; all tested strains exhibited maximum growth at temperatures below $22^{\circ}C$, while the growth of Psa3 strains was completely inhibited above $30^{\circ}C$. Psa3 strains isolated from Korea had longer lag phases than the Psa3 strains from Italy. The Psa2 strains were different from Psa1 and Psa3 strains in the API 20NE test, in which the Psa2 strains could not utilize potassium gluconate, capric acid and trisodium citrate. Psa3 strains isolated from Korea could hydrolyze esculin. The API ZYM test showed that ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity was detected only from Psa3 strains. The strains belonging to the three Psa groups differed with regard to their susceptibility to ampicillin, novobiocin, and oleandomycin.

The diversity of sulfate reducing bacteria was investigated in different depths of sediments in Lake Sihwa, Korea and Lake Aha, China by PCR amplification, denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and clone libraries targeting dissimilatory sulfite redectase (dsr) gene. In the analysis of DGGE band patterns, the community compositions of dsr gene in the sediments of both lakes were significantly different whereas bands in all depths of each environment revealed similar patterns. Bands from Lake Sihwa were produced much more than those from Lake Aha, demonstrating a higher diversity of dsr gene in Lake Sihwa. Total 68 clones containing dsr gene were obtained to analyze their sequences. Sequences from the sediment of Lake Sihwa were affiliated to Deltaproteobacteria, the Gram-positive thermophilic sulfate reducers belonging to the genus Desulforomaculum and archaeal thermophilic SRB belonging to the genus Archaeoglobus, whereas sequences from the sediments of Lake Aha were related to genus Desulfotomaculum. Clones retrieved from sediment of Lake Sihwa revealed a higher numbers than those of Lake Aha, demonstrating a higher diversity of dsr gene in Lake Sihwa. Most of clones (59%) were distantly related to the known cultivated SRB with $60\sim65%$ of similarity, which were clustered only the sequences from the environments showed less than 90% similarity. These habitat specific sequences suggested that the clustered dsr sequences represent species or groups of species that were indigenous to these environments. This study showed that these lakes have a specific bacterial communities having dsr gene distinct from those in other environments such as soil and marine ecosystems around the world.
