  • Image compression schemes, such as JPEG and JPEG2000, degrade the Quality of a reconstructed image due to their lossy characteristics. Accordingly, this paper investigates the relationship between the compression ratio and the gamut variation for a reconstructed image using JPEG and JPEG2000. To analyze the relationship between compression ratio and gamut variation, i.e. the hue and chroma shift in the uniform color space, eighteen color samples from the Macbeth ColorChecker are initially used. Based on the color shift phenomenon for the color samples, twelve natural color images, classified into two groups depending on four color attributes, are also used to investigate the relationship between the level of compression and the variation in the gamut area. As a results, through the experiments, least square method is applied to obtain the fitting curves as an equation minimizing the error between the real data and its corresponding approximated values.

  • The light from the exterior considerably deteriorates the performance of displays including PDP (plasma display panel). Thus semi-conductor industries have developed a special optical film that can block or absorb the exterior light. In this paper, we propose a new inspection system for tracing the defects of the film. Our system is able to inspect a $1.5\;m\;{\times}\;1\;m$ area for 10 sec with $127\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;50{\mu}m$ spatial resolution.

최근 다양한 조성의 산화물 반도체들이 TFT 채널 층으로의 적용을 목적으로 활발하게 연구되고 있으며 ZnO, SnO2, In2O3, IGO(indium-gallium oxide), a-ZTO(amorphous zinc-tin-oxide), a-IZO (amorphous indium-zinc oxide), a-IGZO(amorphous indium-galliumzinc oxide) 등이 그 예이다.

  • The cases of radiographic inspection for medical diagnosis in Korea have been continuously increasing year after year, which pays particularly more attention to CT which occupies over the half of medical radiation exposure. To find an effective alternative for reducing radiation exposure, the researchers conducted comparative experiments using some shields made of bismuth, aluminum 6mm, and silicone 22mm. These shielding materials have been used to reduce the entrance surface dose (ESD) on lenses, maintaining the CT number, noise, and uniformity in brain CT scanning which forms the largest part in CT scanning these days. These experiments showed that the doses in the spiral scan parallel to IOML and the conventional scan in Bismuth were 26.41% and 17.52%, respectively; in Aluminum 18.24% and 9.39%; in Silicone 19.47% and 14.39% lower than compared with those in the cases without any shields. In the items of the CT number, noise, and uniformity, the bismuth shield satisfied exceedingly the standards of the phantom image test while aluminum and silicone were within. To keep the graphic quality and get good shielding effect, we recommend the silicone shield which can be manufactured and purchased with ease.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of probiotic fermentation by comparing the skin antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of non-fermented (ARE) and fermented (ARE-F) hot water extracts of Agastache rugosa leaves. ARE-F was obtained via ARE fermentation using Lactobacillus rhamnosus HK-9. In vitro, anti-inflammatory properties were evaluated by analyzing the levels of nitric oxide (NO), reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated HaCaT keratinocytes. In vitro antiradical activity was measured using 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. Attenuation of LPS-stimulated NO (p < 0.01), ROS (p < 0.001) and iNOS (p < 0.05) levels by ARE-F was significantly stronger than that by ARE in HaCaT keratinocytes. However, no differences were observed between the DPPH radical scavenging activities of ARE and ARE-F. ARE-F possesses enhanced skin antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, suggesting that probiotic bacterial fermentation can be considered an effective tool for augmenting some pharmacological properties of A. rugosa leaves. In brief, the skin antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potentials of A. rugosa leaf extract are augmented by the fermentation with L. rhamnosus HK-9, a probiotic bacterium.

  • This paper proposes a newly structured circuit that can compensate current deviation of a data driver circuit for OLED. A conventional data drivel circuit for OLED cannot compensate the current deviation at the data drivel circuit output terminal generated by MOS process change, but the proposed data drivel circuit can authorize uniform value of current to an OLED panel by calibrating the current deviation at the output terminal. The proposed circuit can minimize current deviation of the output current via process change by connecting the circuit for data output current with a common interconnect line through addition of a switching transistor to the existing data output circuit. The circuit proposed in this paper has been designed based on an OLED panel supporting $128{\times}128$ resolution, and the process used for driver circuit development is 0.35um. As a result of the experiment in this study, the output current of the data driver circuit proposed here has 1% range of error, while 9% range of severe changes was demonstrated in the case of the previous data driver circuit. When using the data driver circuit for OLED proposed in this paper, high definition OLED display can be actualized and the circuit can be applied to mobile display devices requiring high quality display features.

  • Purpose : A method to estimate a real k-space trajectory based on a circuit model of the gradient system is proposed for spiral imaging. The estimated k-space trajectory instead of the ideal trajectory is used in the reconstruction to improve the image quality in the spiral imaging. Materials and Methods : Since the gradient system has self resistance, capacitance, and inductance, as well as the mutual inductance between the magnet and the gradient coils, the generated gradient fields have delays and transient responses compared to the input waveform to the gradient system. The real gradient fields and their trajectory in k-space play an important role in the reconstruction. In this paper, the gradient system is modeled with R-L-C circuits, and real gradient fields are estimated from the input to the model. An experimental method to determine the model parameters (R, L, C values) is also suggested from the quality of the reconstructed image. Results : The gradient fields are estimated from the circuit model of the gradient system at 1.5 Tesla MRI system. The spiral trajectory obtained by the integration of the estimated gradient fields is used for the reconstruction. From experiments, the reconstructed images using the estimated trajectory show improved uniformity, reduced overshoots near the edges, and enhanced resolutions compared to those using the ideal trajectory without model. Conclusion : The gradient system was successfully modeled by the R-L-C circuits. Much improved reconstruction was achieved in the spiral imaging using the trajectory estimated by the proposed model.

  • Sparse-view computed tomography (CT) imaging technique is able to reduce radiation dose, ensure the uniformity of image characteristics among projections and suppress noise. However, the reconstructed images obtained by the sparse-view CT imaging technique suffer from severe artifacts, resulting in the distortion of image quality and internal structures. In this study, we proposed a convolutional neural network (CNN) with wavelet transformation and residual learning for reducing artifacts in sparse-view CT image, and the performance of the trained model was quantitatively analyzed. The CNN consisted of wavelet transformation, convolutional and inverse wavelet transformation layers, and input and output images were configured as sparse-view CT images and residual images, respectively. For training the CNN, the loss function was calculated by using mean squared error (MSE), and the Adam function was used as an optimizer. Result images were obtained by subtracting the residual images, which were predicted by the trained model, from sparse-view CT images. The quantitative accuracy of the result images were measured in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). The results showed that the trained model is able to improve the spatial resolution of the result images as well as reduce artifacts in sparse-view CT images effectively. Also, the trained model increased the PSNR and SSIM by 8.18% and 19.71% in comparison to the imaging model trained without wavelet transformation and residual learning, respectively. Therefore, the imaging model proposed in this study can restore the image quality of sparse-view CT image by reducing artifacts, improving spatial resolution and quantitative accuracy.

  • Antioxidant anticancer activities and nitric oxide (NO) production of Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook (Euphoria longana) fermented with lactic acid bacteria and Bacillus subtilis were investigated. Total organic acid contents (TAC) of Thai raw yonganyook (473.49 mg/g, 89.2% of TAC) were higher 3.2 tims than those of Vietnamese raw yonganyook (148.48 mg/g, 86.8% of TAC) and major organic acids of two materials were formic acid and malic acid. Total free sugars contents of Vietnamese raw yonganyook (434.63 mg/g) were higher 1.2 times than those of Thai raw yonganyook (378.77 mg/g) and major free sugar of two materials welt sucrose, glucose and fructose. NO production of RAW264.7 cell treated with methanol extract of Vietnamese fermented yonganyook was shown to be a lower level than that of Thai fermented yonganyook. It's production by fermented yonganyook was strongly exhibited in low dose (0.2 mg/mL) than in high dose (1.0 mg/mL) as compared with raw yonganyook Electron-donating ability (EDA) of Vietnamese raw yonganyook ($41.72{\pm}3.59%$) at $600\;{\mu}g/assay$ was higher 1.4 times than that of Thai yonganyook ($30.20{\pm}4.8%$). EDA of Vietnamese yonganyook fermented with B. subtilis at $600\;{\mu}g/assay$ was $43.57{\pm}2.07%$ which was the highest level of all samples tested. Anticancer activity of raw yonganyook on human HeLa cell was similar to between Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook. In inhibitory effect of HepG2 cell growth, methanol extract of Thai yonganyook ($46.13{\pm}4.80%$) was higher than that of Vietnamese yonganyook ($33.07{\pm}0.92%$). Inhibitory activity of fermented yonganyook on HeLa and HepG2 cell growth were $39.21{\pm}1.46%$ and $48.07{\pm}1.63%$ when $200\;{\mu}g/assay$ of methanol extract of Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook fermented with B. subtilis were used, respectively.

  • With regard to current Neck CT, Bismuth shielding boards are often being used to reduce exposure to superficial organs such as the thyroid. However, beam hardening often occurs near superficial organs with Bismuth shielding boards and variations in CT Number, Noise, and Uniformity values occur severely. This study looked into the usefulness of shielding boards made from aluminum and silicone that can be easily obtained and have good machinability by comparing them to the existing Bismuth shielding board. An Aluminum 7.3mm and a Silicone 21.5mm were made with shielding ratios similar to that of the Bismuth(0.06 mmPb). TLD (TLD-100) was placed on the thyroid area of the Phantom (RS-108T) and 5 doses were measured for each. To compare image quality, CT Number and Noise variations in axial images of the thyroid area in Neck CT images were compared. Also, variations in CT Number, Noise, and Uniformity were measured in the AAPM phantom images and compared. In the results, when thyroid doses for each shielding board were compared, the Bismuth shielding board showed a 14% reduction, the Silicone 21.5mm showed a 15% reduction, and the Aluminum 7.3mm showed a 13% reduction compared to the Non-Shield. Statistically, there were no significant differences in comparison with the Bismuth shielding board. In CT Number variations of thyroid area images, variations were largest for the Bismuth shielding board. With Uniformity evaluations of the AAPM phantom, the Bismuth shielding board was found unsuitable and the Aluminum 7.3mm and Silicone 21.5mm satisfied the acceptance criteria. Research results show that the Aluminum 7.3mm and Silicone 21.5mm have a similar shielding ratio to the high-priced Bismuth shielding board that is currently being used clinically and in comparison tests of CT Number attenuation coefficient variations, Noise, and Uniformity which are phantom image evaluation items, they proved to be better than Bismuth shielding boards. If various shielding boards are made using aluminum and silicone, sized appropriately for superficial organs, it would be useful in decreasing patient doses.
