과대 하중작용 시 균열성장 지연 거동에 대한 파괴역학적 정리 (Fracture Mechanic's Approach on Retardation Behaviors under Overloading)

  • In order to clarify the effect of overload on crack growth behaviors, fatigue tests for overload were carried out for round plain specimens of SM45C steel. In the experiment, typical semi-elliptical crack shape was found and further crack growth behaviors were tested. Using three types of single overload fatigue tests, Crack growth retardation phenomenon were examined. The growth rate of surface crack(da/dN) during retardation period was analyzed in terms of ${\Delta}K$ and ${\Delta}K_{eff}$. On the growth rate of surface crack analyzed by ${\Delta}K$, the dependence of overload stress levels appears. However, on the growth rate by ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ obtained by Willenborg analysis, there is a non-liner relationship between da/dN and ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ with narrow scatter band.

  • In order to study on fatigue crack retardation and retardation mechanism in variable loading, the effects of crack tip branching in fatigue crack growth retardation were examined. The characteristics of crack tip banching behavior was considered to micro structure. It was examined that the variation of crack tip branching angle. Crack tip branching was observed along the grain boundary of ferrite and pearlite structure. It was found that the abanching angle ranges from 25 to 53 degrees. Using the finite element method, the variable of crack driving force to branching angle was examined. The effective crack driving force ( $K_{\eff}$ ) decreased as the braching angle increases. The rate of decrease was 33% for the kinked type and 29% for the forked one. It was confirmed that the effect of crack tip branching is a very important factor in fatigue crack growth retardation. Therefore, crack branching effect should be considered building the hypoth- etical model to predict crack growth retardation.

균열선단의 소성스트레치를 이용한 피로균열성장모델 (A model of fatigue crack growth based on plastic stretch at the crack tip)

  • 피로균열성장모델을 유도하고 지연모델을 제안하였다. 피로균열성장모델은 피로균열선단의 소성변형으로 인하여 균열표면에 발생하는 잔류소성스트레치를 고려하고 있다. 균열 성장률은 균열선단 재료요소의 소성변형에너지와 누적피로손상으로부터 계산된다. 유도한 균열성장모델로부터 계산한 균열성장률은 AL6061-T651과 17-4PH 주강의 시험결과와 잘 일치하고 있다. 피로균열성장지연모델은 인장과대하중으로부터 생성된 잔류소성스트레치를 근거로 하고 있으며, 인장과대하중은 다음 하중 사이클의 소성변형률을 감소시킨다. Strip-yield모델을 이용하여 균열선단의 소성역을 계산하였다. 새로 제안된 지연모델은 인장과대하중하의 피로균열선장특성 및 지체지연 현상을 잘 기술하고 있다.

  • In this study, in order to analyze the crack retardation behaviors, effective plastic zone concept was proposed. By use of the proposed concept, crack retardation period, compressive residual stress and variation of effective plastic zone shapes were obtained. The results were compared with those of Willenborg model. Retardation period, compressive residual stress and effective plastic zone size obtained by using effective plastic zone concept were larger then the results obtained by using Willenborg analysis. Effective stress intensity factors obtained by using effective plastic zone concept were smaller then the results obtained by using Willenborg analysis.

  • Aircraft structures and engineering structures are always subject to variable amplitude loads. Variable amplitude loads include some kind of loading history; for example, constant amplitude load, single peak overload and block overload etc. Crack growth under variable amplitude loading exhibits retardation effect. In this study, the 4 point bending fatigue test was performed by hydrolic servo fatigue testing machine on 7075-T6 Al-alloy. The retardation effect of overload ratio and numbers of overload cycle was quantitatively studied. 1) Change of retardation effect against increment of overload ratio is more evident when the multiple overload is applied than single overload is done. 2) The number of overload cycle is very important factor about the crack growth retardation effect when the overload ratio is more than 1.75; that is not when the overload ratio is less than 1.75. 3) Overload affected zone size increased gradually by increment of crack growth retardation effect. 4) Crack driving force is more greatly reduced when the crack tip branched off two direction than it sloped to one direction.

용접구조용 고강도강재의 피로균열성장특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Fatigue Crack Growth Characteristics of Welded High-Strength Steels)

  • 본 연구에서는 향후 사용빈도가 증가할 것으로 예상되는 SM570, POSTEN60 및 POSTEN80 강재를 대상으로 용접선 방향이 피로균열성장속도에 미치는 영향, 용접방법 및 강도등급에 따른 피로균열성장특성, 그리고 각 재질별(모재부, 열영향부, 용접금속부) 피로균열 성장특성을 정량적으로 평가하기 위해서 CT시험편을 제작해서 일련의 피로시험을 실시하였다. 피로시험결과 노치가 용접선과 평행한 시험체의 경우 노치선단에 존재하는 압축잔류응력의 영향으로 노치가 용접선과 직각인 시험체의 경우보다 피로균열성장속도의 지연현상이 현저해지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 용접 방법에 따른 피로균열성장특성은 강재의 강도등급에 관계없이 FCAW가 SAW에 비해서 피로균열성장속도의 분산이 적게 나타나고 있으며, 또한 높은 응력확대계수범위 영역에서 피로균열성장속도의 수렴현상이 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한편 본 피로시험결과와 기존의 연구결과를 비교하면 피로균열성장영역에서의 피로균열성장속도는 유사한 경향을 나타내고 있으므로 본 연구에서 대상으로 한 강재는 피로안전성을 충분히 확보하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this study, the growth rate of surface cracks (da/dN) during the retardation period was analyzed in terms of effective stress intensity factor range(${\Delta}K_{eff}^*$) obtained by using the proposed effective plastic zone concept. Effective stress intensity factors obtained by using the effective plastic zone concept were smaller than those obtained by using Willenborg analysis. On the growth rate of surface cracks analyzed by ${\Delta}K$, the dependence of overload stress levels appears. On the growth rate by ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ obtained by Willenborg analysis, there is a linear relationship with two different slops between da/dN and ${\Delta}K_{eff}$. However, on the growth rate by ${\Delta}K_{eff}^*$ obtained by the proposed effective plastic zone concept, there is a linear relationship between da/dN and ${\Delta}K_{eff}^*$ that coincides with the results of constant amplitude loading.

A Study on the Fatigue Life of Semi ADI

  • 본 연구는 ADI의 기계적 성질을 개선하고자 오스테나이트화 과정에서 초기 변태온도를 $900^{\circ}C$ (${\gamma}$ 구역)에서 시작하여 $800^{\circ}C$까지(${\alpha}+{\gamma}$ 구역) 일정한 냉각제어에 의해 오스템퍼링을 한다. 여기서 Full ADI에서 생성되는 고탄소 오스테나이트 조직을 저탄소 오스테나이트로 유도하고 미세한 침상의 Full ADI조직을 연성이 높은 조대한 아공석 페라이트 조직이 생성되도록 하여 Semi ADI를 만든다. Full ADI와 Semi ADI의 기계적 성질 및 피로강도를 연구한 결과 Full ADI와 Semi ADI의 정적강도는 유사하지만, 피로강도는 Semi ADI의 기지조직의 변화에 기인하여 Full ADI보다 피로강도가 높게 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 Semi ADI의 조대한 페라이트가 균열개구 저항력이 낮아 초기에는 쉽게 개구되지만, 균열개구와 동시에 균열선단에서 큰 소성역이 발생되어 균열성장이 지연하는 효과로 판단된다.

  • Retardation or delay in fatigue crack growth due to overloads are important for the accurate prediction of fatigue lives of structural materials. In this study, retardation of fatigue crack growth in Al 6061-T6 weldments and heat affected zones (HAZ) after single overload cycle had been investigated. Retardation in both weldments and HAZ was observed. It was concluded that retardation in both weldment and HAZ was greater than in base metal due to microstructural change and crack branching and crack closure were major governing factor in retardation.
