Long-term Settlement Prediction of Railway Concrete Track Based on Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) (순환신경망을 활용한 콘크리트궤도의 장기 침하 거동 예측)

  • The railway concrete track has been increasingly adopted for high-speed train such as KTX due to its high running stability, improved ride quality for the passengers, and low maintenance cost. However, excessive settlement of the railway concrete track has been monitored at embankment sections of the ◯◯ High-speed Line, resulting in the concerns on the safety of railway operation. In order to establish an effective maintenance plan for the concrete track railway exceeding the allowable residual settlement, it is essential to reasonably predict their long-term settlement behavior during the public period. In this study, we developed a model for predicting the long-term settlement behavior of concrete track using recurrent neural network (RNN) and examined the applicability of the developed model.

  • The wireless low-floored tram is an innovative transportation system which is environment-friendly and highly energy-efficient. In addition, the system has various advantages such as low construction cost, improvement of urban landscape, revitalization of surrounding commercial area, elevated convenience for passengers, etc. Therefore, more than ten local governments have proposed tram construction projects in Korea. Accordingly, many research and development projects are ongoing funded by government including the developments of tram vehicle, tram trackway, signal system, etc. The embedded rail system are commonly used in order to provide leveled roadway surface in urban area. It is effective to reduce the noise and vibration, caused at the interface between the wheel and track, to minimize the construction period, and to lower the maintenance cost. This paper investigated the design and construction processes for tram trackway and figured out the constructability for the test track with embedded rail system for the first time in Korea. The performance to reduce the noise and vibration were quantitatively measured in the test track with embedded rail system. In addition, the results were compared to the ones for track with conventional rail system.

Analysis of Performance Tests and Friction Characteristics of a Friction Type Isolator Considering Train Load Conditions (열차 하중조건을 고려한 마찰형 방진장치 성능시험 및 마찰특성 분석)

  • In the case of an elevated railway station, structure borne noise and vibration due to structural limitations allow the load and vibration from railway vehicles to be directly transmitted to the station structure, resulting in an increase in the number of civil complaints from customers and staff of the station. The floating slab track system, which is well known as one of the solutions for reducing the noise and vibration from elevated railway stations, usually contains rubber mounts or rubber pads under the railway slab which act as a damper. These types of device have the disadvantage that is difficult to predetermine the exact stiffness and damping ratio under the nonlinear loads resulting from train services. In this study, an isolator with a friction type of wedge is introduced, which can be applied to floating slab track systems and to be designed with precisely the required stiffness. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the stiffness between the designed and experimental values is carried out, while the damping ratio, which is closely related to the friction wedge blocks, is deduced according to the train load condition. The performance tests of the isolator were conducted in accordance with the DIN 45673-7 standard which includes both static and dynamic load tests. The load conditions for the performance tests are designed to conform to the DIN standard related to the weight of the train and rail track, in order to perform vertical and horizontal load tests, so as to ensure the secure structural safety of the railway. Also, by checking the change aspect of the friction coefficients of the friction elements according to the loading rate, the vibration reduction performance of the friction type isolator with variable loading rate conditions is examined.

  • Both traffic congestion and air pollution in the metropolitan area can be greatly relieved by promoting the use of public transportation with zero emission system. Bus and subway are very convenient means for the people moving in the route areas. But they are not enough to satisfy handicapped or old people to have access to them and also do not solve environmental problems completely. New vehicle system, fuel cell track rapid transit, will be introduced as a countermeasure for such problems in the present paper.

  • dynamic modelling method is applied to the driving simulation which has the calculable model of engine, transmission, vehicle. And driving pattern is used for database by actual tests and analyzed in neural network system. The simulation is compared to real test results and structures to the tracked vehicle powertrain.

  • In this study, the performance of a semi-active suspension system for heavy duty tracked vehicles has been investigated. To this end, continuous and on-off Sky-Hook control law have been evaluated for a 1/4 car model. Simulation results show that the semi-active suspension system has potential to improve ride quality of the vehicle. And we proposed a method for improving of variable damper performance.

  • The interior noise of KTX in tunnel has become an issue since the commercial operating in April 2004. The analysis of the interior noise of KTX in tunnel with concrete track shows sharply increased noise level in the range of 80Hz that is the natural frequency of the KTX carbody. We know that the booming noise inside KTX in tunnel with concrete track is generated by noise outside gangway and rolling noise at the carbody natural frequency. In this Study noise reduction methods are discussed on the basis of the comparison of the KTX and KHST noise characteristics. Alternatively, the effect of the modified mud-flap on the interior noise is introduced.

  • To accelerate a heavy roller coaster train with over 1G force, a lot of thrust is required and linear synchronous motor(LSM) as propulsion method is suitable for this kind of system. To increase the propulsion efficiency of LSM, precise and real-time position information of vehicle is required for accurate phase control. However, the discontinuous position information with relatively long time interval is usually transmitted from the hall-sensors on the track every magnet length. In this paper, the basic motor model based on traditional dq-axis equations is described and the motor dynamic model is produced by considering the cogging force and friction loss. To improve the position accuracy, the position estimator is also proposed for LSM control system. Simulations were performed to check the characteristics of the torque control system which includes the position estimator based on the motor model. Simulation results based on the linearized model show that this control system has an enough bandwidth and phase margin and the executed algorithm achieves an ideal effect to follow the real-time position signal. Therefore, the feasibility of position estimator is also confirmed.

Development of a Interface Structure of Bogie and Carbody in Mountain Tram running on sharp Curves (급곡선 급경사 운행 산악트램의 대차 및 차체 연결 구조 개발)

  • Mountain trams are an environmental-friendly transportation system that run wirelessly on an embedded track constructed on previous mountain roads, and can run despite the frozen road. On the other hand, there is some difficulty on sharp and steep tracks. In this study, after possible technical problems were defined in mountain trams running on a sharp and steep track, the design solutions for the interface structure of bogie and carbody were proposed. In addition, a prototype was made and its performance was tested to verify the solutions. Because the difference in the distance of the inner and outer rails on a sharp curve is severe enough to interrupt running, independent rotating wheels with different angular speeds were developed and applied. To prevent derailment due to the large attack angle and lateral force caused by the previous vehicle of 2bogie-and-1carbody on the sharp curve, a vehicle with 1bogie-and-1carbody was designed and applied. A prototype vehicle of 1bogie-and-1carbody with independent rotating wheels was made to improve the performance during the test running on a small track. A coupler was designed to absorb the large rotations of 3 degrees-of-freedom between the carbodies of a mountain tram running on the steep curved track. After a small scale prototype was made, the performance was verified by a function test.
