  • The components of concrete track (rail and rail fastening system) in railway bridge deck ends are damaged and deteriorated by track-bridge interaction forces such as uplift forces and compression forces owing to their structural flexural characteristics (bridge end rotation). This had led to demand for alternatives to improve structural safety and serviceability. In this study, the authors aim to develop a transition track to enhance the long term workability and durability of concrete track components in railway bridge deck ends and thereby improve the performance of concrete track. A time-history analysis and a three-dimensional finite element method analysis were performed to consider the train speed and the effect of multiple train loads and the results were compared with the performance requirements and German standard for transition track. Furthermore, two specimens, a normal concrete track and a transition track, were fabricated to evaluate the effects of application of the developed transition track, and static tests were conducted. From the results, the track-bridge interaction force acting on the track components (rail displacement, rail stress, and clip stress) of the railway bridge deck end were significantly reduced with use of the developed transition track compared with the non-transition track specimen.

  • The necessary of research is proposed about sharing between networks of the fixed-satellite service using non-geostationary satellites and other networks of the fixed-satellite service, interference criteria and calculation methods for the fixed-satellite service because WRC-2000 make a decision that the frequency bands l1/14GHz and 20/30GHz are available to system in the fixed-satellite service employing satellite in both geostationary and non-geostationary orbits. In the paper, four methodologies attempting to derive continuous curves of korea satellite network EPFD(equivalent power flux density) are used.

  • Transition tracks are an alternative for enhancing the long-term serviceability and durability of concrete track components in railway bridges. The goal of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior for transition track systems of railway bridge deck ends. In this study, the structural behavior of transition tracks such as the variations in static, dynamic, and fatigue behaviors and dynamic properties (natural frequency and damping ratio) are assessed and compared through performing loading tests and finite element analyses using actual vehicle impact loadings. As a result, it is found that the structural behavior of the transition track system is expected to satisfy the actual vehicle impact loading, and the variation in the neutral axis and dynamic characteristics are not affected by the fatigue loading. Therefore, it is inferred that the structural capacity and long-term durability of the transition track system is proven.

  • The satellite propulsion system provides the required thrust to insert a satellite into the desired orbit after separation from the launch vehicle and to control orbit inclination or compensate altitude loss due to drag after inserted into the desired orbit. The on-orbit performance of LEO satellite propulsion system according to operation mode was verified based on the results analysis for early on-orbit operation. The temperature trends of components and tubing were checked and the resultant trends were within the normal range as well.

  • This paper proposes the track system with twin block sleeper for a LIM type maglev railroad. Because a LIM type maglev railroad is expected to be constructed in inner city, social costs can be required under construction. Accordingly, superstructure using precast plate was adopted and twin block sleeper which can be constructed together with precast plate was developed to reduce the construction period. To examine the structural safety of the proposed track system with twin block sleeper, the finite element analyses and the laboratory experiments were performed. Also, the workability of the proposed track system was investigated through the construction simulation test and construction experience in test bed.

  • Domestic satellite development programme is generally classified into two categories: COMS as GEO satellite and KOMPSAT as LEO one. Each satellite has the on-board propulsion system fulfilling its own mission requirements. The COMS propulsion system provides the thrust and torque required for the insertion into GEO, attitude and orbit control/adjustment of spacecraft. It is the well-known Chemical Propulsion System(CPS) using bipropellants. On the other hand, the monopropellant propulsion system is employed in KOMPSAT, and its main role is on-station attitude control excluding the orbit transfer function. In this study, these two representative propulsion systems are compared and analysed as well, in terms of essential differences and important characteristics.

  • Even more than 240 commercial geostationary communication satellites currently on orbit at the higher location than the GPS orbit altitude perform their own missions only by the support of the ground segment because of weak visibility from GPS. In addition, the orbit determination accuracy is very low without using two or more dedicated ground tracking antennas in intercontinental ground segment, since the satellite hardly moves with respect to the ground station. In this paper, we propose the GSPS(Geostationary Satellite Positioning System) in circular orbits of two sidereal days period higher than the geosynchronous orbit for orbit determination and autonomous satellite operation. The GSPS is conceived as a ranging system in that unknown positions of a geostationary satellite can be acquired from the known positions of the GSPS satellites. Each GSPS satellite transmits navigation data, clock data, correction data, and geostationary satellite command to control a geostationary satellite.

  • In this paper, a precise orbit determination process was carried out based on KARISMA(KARI Collision Risk Management System) developed by KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute), in which optical tracking data of a geostationary satellite was used. The real optical tracking data provided by ESA(European Space Agency) for the ARTEMIS geostationary satellite was used. And orbit determination error was approximately 420 m compared to that of the ESA's orbit determination result from the same optical tracking data. In addition, orbit prediction was conducted based on the orbit determination result with optical tracking data for 4 days, and the position error for the orbit prediction during 3 days was approximately 500~600 m compared to that of ESA's result. These results imply that the performance of the KARISMA's orbit determination function is suitable to apply to the collision risk assessment for the space debris.

  • This paper describes the development of an automated operational orbit processing system (KGS automated Operational Orbit Processing System, KOOPS), which can determine, evaluate, update, and generate the orbit data automatically. Developed system can be applied to the multi satellite mission operations as a generic satellite orbit processing system in that the KOOPS has a capability to process various kinds of tracking data and assign pre and post processes according to the satellite system respectively. Results of applying the KOOPS to the KOMPSAT-1 and KOMPSAT-2 mission operations show that man power is greatly reduced and the efficiency and stability of the mission operations are significantly increased. The experiences to develop the KOOPS and operate multi satellite missions using this system can be applied to enhance the multi and generic flight dynamics system further.
