  • Inorganic composite particles have excellent physical and chemical characteristics and have been applied in various industries. Recently, many studies have examined the optical properties, such as light scattering, refraction, transmission characteristics, by coating organic-inorganic materials on a substrate, such as mica. Mica is widely applied as a pigment, plastics, painted products, and ceramics because of its high chemical stability, durability and non-toxicity. Magnesium oxide has a range of properties, such as high light transmittance, corrosion resistance and non-toxicity, and it is used as an optical material and polymer additives. To use the optical properties of mica and magnesium oxide, mica was coated with magnesium hydroxide by a dissolution and recrystallization process. In this study, the optimal conditions for the haze value of the particles were found by adjusting the amount of precursors and pH. Magnesium hydroxide layers were formed on the surfaces of mica and converted to MgO after calcination at $400^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The results showed that the value of MgO-coated mica haze can be controlled easily by the amount of the magnesium hydroxide and pH. The optical properties of the inorganic composite powder were analyzed using a hazemeter and the highest haze value was 85.92 % at pH 9. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized composite was analyzed by SEM, XRD, EDS, and PSA.

  • The mackerels, Scomber japonicus (HOUTTYN), for this study were caught by purse sein net in Korea. In this paper, the seasonal variations of the oil content and Vitamin A concentration in oil in different parts of the mackerel, the distribution of the Vitamin A of viscera of that and physical and chemical constants of oil were discussed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. In the beginning of June, the liver weight increased rapidly and reached the maximum. In this period, the gonad weight was also maximum. It seemed that this phenomenon has influenced on the nutritional and physiological aspects of the spawning stage. 2. The Vitamin A concentration of liver oil reached the maximum value in the middle of July. In the most case, it was proportinate to the oil content in liver inversely. 3. The Vitamin A concentration of pyloric caeca oil reached the maximum Value in the late of July. It showed the tendency of being proportionate to the oil content in pyloric caeca inversely. And the Vitamin A concentration of intestine oil reached maximum value in the beginning of July. 4. The distribution average ratio of Vitamin A in liver, pyloric caeca, intestine, stomach and contents of stomach and gonad to the total Vitamin A in whole viscera were 60.8, 29.4, 5.7, 2.2, and 1.9 percentage. The seasonal variation of the distribution of Vitamin A in pyloric caeca to the amount of total Vitamin A in whole viscera was proportionate to that of liver inversely. 5. It seemed that there were no any corelation between the Vitamin A content and seasonal variation of the physical and chemical constants of viscera oil. But when the Vitamin A concentration was high, the refractive index, the amount of unsaponifiable matter and iodine value of viscera oil were also high. 6. On the extracting vitamin oil of viscera of mackerel, it is the most suitable period from the end of May to the middle of October. The liver, pyloric caeca and intestine of mackerel are valuable and the other parts of vicera are worthless as vitamin oil resources. It is probable that the whole viscera oil could also be utilized as vitamin-rich oil, if it were concentrated.

  • The maturity of amber matrix and inclusion was studied to explore the effect of heat treatment on the formation of the sun spangle in the transparent Baltic amber from Gdansk, Poland. Optical microscope revealed two types of inclusions in the original amber samples. The inclusions in the amber which had sun spangle were dramatically expanded by the heat treatment, comparing to those without sun spangle which contains fissure and shows different refractive index. The amber sample which didn't show sun spangle after the heat treatment showed a strong carbon related peak in TOF-SIMS spectra and weak oxygen related peak. it means that the maturity of this amber sample is comparatively higher than the one with spangle. The two amber samples show similar IR spectra before the heat treatment. However, the amber which had sun spangle exhibited an additional 1019 $cm^{-1}$ absorption peak and a more intense 887 $cm^{-1}$ peak. The different chemical compositions between the two types of amber is believed to be due to the different absorption spectra between 1000~600 $cm^{-1}$. According to the study of DSC analysis, the two samples show different DSC profiles. Although they have the same geological origin, their geological ages are different and have different chemical compositions. Thus, they exhibited different behavior after the heat treatment. The formation of sun spangle seemed to depend on the difference in the heat expansion rate of amber matrix with different maturity and chemical compositions.

  • Purpose: Of the various methods of vision training, the essay aims to explore the effective ways of using the Fresnel prism lens in order to expand the positive fusional vergence for the patient having specific condition of convergence insufficiency or basic exophoria. Methods: 15 students of city of Daejeon university without an eye disease (average age $22.73{\pm}1.68$) were selected and underwent the subjective refraction test and binocular vision test, and recording their test results before vision training and replacing an identical frame with a lens of same quality after the full calibration, the lens was then adhered with the Fresnel prism lens and continued to train for thirty minutes daily during two weeks. Afterwards, the binocular vision test was reattempted. The observation of the change in the results of the binocular vision test in use of the fresnel prism lens in the vision training test was researched. Results: After training, the positive fusional vergence had increased to a number of $22.27{\pm}2.26$ $\Delta$, to 7.80 $\Delta$, at near, the fused cross cylinder test increased to an average of $0.55{\pm}0.09$ D, 0.40 D after training, showing a normal result. The value of negative relative accommodation after training had an average of $2.22{\pm}0.08$D, showing that 0.42 D had increased. The value of near point of convergence after training had an average of $6.13{\pm}0.53$ cm, showing that 2.80 cm had decreased. To patients who had convergence insufficiency or basic exophoria, the value of the near vision test that used the Fresnel prism lens which was able to expand BO positive fusional vergence had increased without phoria. Conclusions: The changes were tested and the effectiveness of the Fresnel prism lens, due to the nature of the lens itself, helped with both cosmetic effects and cost. It also allows good optical correction effects, in addition to these clinical effects indicated before. Therefore, it may be determined that the Fresnel prism lens binocular vision therapy for patients is more popular and highly recommended.

  • The Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag hydrothermal vein-type deposits which comprise the Sambong mine occur within calc-alkaline volcanics of the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin. The ore mineralization took place through three distinct stages of quartz (I and II stages) and calcite veins (III stage) which fill the pre-existing fault breccia zones. These stages were separated in time by tectonic fracturing and brecciation events. The reflection variations of one mineral depending on mineralization sequence are considered to be resulted from variation in its chemical composition due to different physico-chemical conditions in the hydrothermal system. The reflection power of sphalerite increases with the content of Fe substituted for Zn. Reflectances of the sphalerite grain are lower on (111) than on (100) surface. The spectral profiles depend on the internal reflection color. Sphalerite, showing green, yellow and reddish brown internal reflection, have the highest reflection power at $544m{\mu}$ (green), $593m{\mu}$ (yellow) and $615m{\mu}$ (red) wavelength, respectively. Chalcopyrite is recognized as biaxial negative from the reflectivity data of randomly oriented grains measured at the most sensitivity at $544m{\mu}$. The microindentation hardness against the Fe content (wt. %) for the sphalerite increases to 8.05% Fe and then decreases toward 9.5% Fe content. Vickers hardness of the sphalerite is considerably higher on surface of (100) than on (111). The relationship between Vickers hardness and crystal orientation of the galena was determined to be $VHN_{(111)}$ > $VHN_{(210)}$ > $VHN_{(100)}$. The softer sulfides have the wider variation of the diagonal length in the indentation. Diagonal length in the indentation is pyrite

  • This study was classified and compared astigmatism's refractional abnormal degrees with visual acuity state of full correction which turned on axises of only 5 degree, 10 degree, and 15 degree. Subjects of this study were 57 college students (114 eyes) who had neither eye diseases nor binocular abnormality, were from their twenties to fifties, with myopia. It appeared that 30.8% of subjects who had astigmatism wore glasses with wrong axis of astigmatism. After accurate correction of the visual acuity and degrees of astigmatism, when we moved to corrected axises at 5 degree, 10 degree, 15 degree, failure of visual acuity with one line or more were 56.1%, 84.2%, 93.8%, respectively. When we comapre the completely-corrected visual acuity with the visual acuity with dricted axes, the bigger the width of visual acuity's weakness was the bigger the drifted angle. The change of normal visual acuity according to drifting angle of corrected axises of astigmatism, when we compared with full correction, appeared 0.94 in 5 degree, 0.87 in 10 degree, and 0.79 in 15 degree. Drift of 5 degree from fully corrected axis, corresponded to difference of visual acuity about one line, drift of 10 degree to 1.8 line difference of visual acuity, and drift of 15 degree about to 2.6 line difference. Through this study, we were sure that, in the case of drifting away from the right axis of astigmatism, it lead to visual weakness and asthenopia. Therefore we darely advise that optometrists should make mistake of axis least by confirming accucacy of corrected axis after despensing of spectacles of astigmatism.
