An Analysis of Import Demand for International Ginseng Market in Hong Kong (홍콩 국제 인삼시장의 수입수요 분석)

  • For several thousand years, Korean ginseng has been used as a medicinal herb in the oriental countries. Korea is the ginseng suzerain and, for that reason, the ginseng as a special crop in Korea has been exported to the world market since the era of the three Kingdoms. Hong Kong is the pivot of ginseng import from all of the world. In 1970s, Korea ginseng had a high market share (about 30%) in Hong Kong. However, recently, the market share of Korean ginseng in Hong Kong has been significantly reduced due to the mass production from China and Canada. Besides, America with aggressive marketing strategy takes the leadership in the international ginseng market in Hong Kong. Therefore, it is necessary for Korea to know and understand world ginseng market condition and situation in Hong Kong. The objective of this study is to identify the actual import situation at international ginseng market in Hong Kong. This study analyzed the ginseng import demand model which effected by several price variables from major importing countries at the international ginseng market in Hong Kong. The findings of this study show that the import price of Korean ginseng has an effect on the quantity of ginseng imported from other countries in Hong Kong. In addition, the quantity of ginseng imported from Korea in Hong Kong is influenced by the import price of ginseng from other countries. In conclusion, Korean ginseng plays an important role at the international ginseng market in Hong Kong.

  • 고려인삼의 학명은 Panax ginseng으로 그리스 어원을 해석하면 '모든 질병을 치료 할 수 있는 약재'이다. 본 발표에서는 첫째, 고려인삼의 약리효능에 대한 과학적인 연구 결과를 소개해 고려인삼에 대한 이해를 넓히고 둘째, 국제인삼시장의 현황과 중앙정부의 지원 방법을 소개하고자 한다. 고려인삼은 재배기간인 4~6년 소요되고 수삼, 백삼, 홍삼, 태극삼, 흑삼의 형태로 사용된다. 고려인삼은 사포닌, 알칼로이드, 다당체 등을 함유하고 있으며 생리활성의 유효성분은 ginsenoside로 알려져 있다. 고려인삼의 ginsenoside는 약 35종이 알려져 있고 각 ginsenoside에 따라 항아토피, 알츠하이머 예방, 항당뇨, 면역 증강효과를 보이고 있으며 아직도 그 효능에 대하여 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 고려인삼의 국제거래가격은 캐나다산의 4.8배, 중국산의 5.5배이고 토지 임차료는 미국, 중국의 약 5배, 캐나다의 2.6배이며 인건비는 중국의 13배에 달하나 수량성은 10a 당 450~600kg으로 미국 캐나다(800~1,000kg), 중국(950~1,250kg)의 수량성 보다 낮다. 고려인삼의 산업적 발전을 위해 중앙정부는 생산기반, 유통구조, 안전성, 과학화를 포함한 중장기적인 계획을 수립하고, 이에 따라 다양한 지원시책을 준비하고 있다.

The object of this study is to identify the actual consumption conditions and consumer perception of ginseng at the major consumptive countries in tile world. The findings of this study mean that the consumer behavior and perception of ginseng is difficult depending on country. At the result, it is expected that this study will be used to apply ginseng in various fields.

  • 함형구 고성 군수님은 오랫동안 공직생활을 하신 전형적인 정통 관료의 풍모를 지니신 분이다. 대학교에서도 행정학을 전공하시고 강원도에서 삼척군수와 춘천 행정부시장을 역임하시고 고향에서 민선으로 당선되어서 혼신의 노력으로 군 발전에 총력을 기울이고 계신다. 특히 고성군 중 장기 발전계획의 일환으로 WTO/DDA 체제하에서 국제 경쟁력을 가지고 농민들의 소득수준을 지속적으로 발전시킬수 있는「인삼∙약초 산업단지」를 조성하여 연차적으로 발전시키려는 계획을 뚝심있게 추진하시고 계신 정통 행정 관료이시다.

Analysis of Obstacles in the Export Process of Korean Ginseng (고려인삼 수출과정에서의 장애요소 분석 - 중국, 홍콩, 대만에 대한 고려인삼 수출을 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to identify the issues in Korean ginseng exports through analyzing the ginseng market. Therefore, the study examined the current ginseng production status in South Korea and China, the major ginseng-producing countries in Northeast Asia, including cultivated areas, harvested areas, and production volumes. For South Korea, specific data on ginseng, such as average prices, operating costs, and production costs, were compiled to demonstrate the production competitiveness of Korean ginseng from a production perspective. Furthermore, as major ginseng-exporting countries, South Korea, China, and Hong Kong's export trends, including export quantities, export values, and export prices, as well as crucial export items and tariff rates, were summarized to showcase the export competitiveness of Korean ginseng. Additionally, this study aimed to understand the consumption patterns of ginseng in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan by presenting various cases and events in these countries. Based on information related to production, export, and consumption, this study identified obstacles in the ginseng export process, including market downturns, weakened price competitiveness of Korean ginseng, increased market share of competing products like Chinese and Western ginseng, a lack of promotion and marketing, and insufficient development and export of various ginseng products. In response, strategies for overcoming these obstacles were proposed, including diversifying exports, establishing effective production systems, enhancing quality and branding, strengthening promotion and marketing efforts, and developing various ginseng products.

A Study on the Korean Red Ginseng Packaging (홍삼의 패키지 현황과 디자인 개선 방안)

  • The value of Korean ginseng has been known in the world since the 4th century B. C. Red ginseng is hot-steamed, and then dried for the purpose of long-term storing. Through the steaming and drying process, its moisture rate is reduced to 14% and its color becomes citrine or light yellowish brown. Its hardened structure enables long-term storage without any deformation. Especially, Korean red ginseng contains substances that promote micro-physiological activities which are not found in American or Sanchi ginseng. Ginseng is produced in diverse forms for the customer's convenience. In this study, these are classified as sliced, dried, and honeyed ginseng, granulated tea, extract, powder, capsules, tablets, drinks and candy. Package design is one of the most effective method in the marketing fields. However, in this research, we found that red ginseng packages are not variously and properly developed in materials and designs. The research pointed out the problems and discuss ways and means of the package design.

  • Lately, the Korean ginseng was confronted with the sale crisis in world markets from the various circumstance. One of important difficulties is overspreading of Korean ginseng imitative in foreign markets. In Korean markets also, chinese ginseng was imported illegally and manufactured as Korean ginseng, which was resulted inthe damage of Korean ginseng brand. The most essential problem is misunderstanding of Korean ginseng 。 s information in the foreigner. In this paper, we developed a genuine guarantee system to identify the true Korean ginseng through internet and geographic cording system of Korean ginseng products. This system can be applied to the enforcement of Korean ginseng sale to international markets.

  • 국내 주요 인삼재배 산지 기반을 가진 전북 진안지역의 인삼 홍삼산업은, 재배농가 895호, 재배면적 402ha, 생산량 1,628톤, 홍삼가공업체 80개소, 판매업소 50개소로 지역경제의 25% 이상을 차지한다. 그러나 재배농가의 계열화 미흡(22%), 산지수집상(포전매매)에 의한 인근 유사 도매시장으로 재배물량과 부가가치 유출(78%), 가공시설의 노후화, 가공업체의 영세성(매출규모 연평균 2억11백만원)과 함께 중국, 캐나다, 미국 등의 국제 가격경쟁과 국내의 대기업 및 인삼산업 주요지역과의 경쟁이라는 상황에 직면하고 있다. 이러한 상황을 극복하고 지역특화명품산업으로 발전할 수 있는 방안으로, 인삼재배산지로서 원료공급지를 기반으로 하는 재배, 유통, 가공, 품질관리, 시설분야에 이르는 발전방안을 연구하였다. 산업원료 확보를 위해서는 인삼계열화 확대를 통해 원물 확보력을 강화하여야 한다. 재배분야의 경우에는 친환경재배 확대와 GAP 확대를 통해 원물의 품질경쟁력 뿐만 아니라 시장수요에 따른 브랜드마케팅 요인으로 특성화해야 한다. 유통분야는 계열화 확대를 통한 원물확보라는 산업경쟁력을 바탕으로 원료중심의 수취, 매취, 보관, 가공, 대형거래, 도소매 등 유통활성화와 유통규격포장 및 선별등급표준화를 통한 유통표준화를 추진하여야 한다. 가공의 경우, 원료홍삼 공급기능을 중심으로 가공산업을 선택 육성해야한다. 품질관리는 원물중심관리(성분, 잔류농약, 식품위생), 유통중심관리(연근, 등급), 경작중심관리(재배지, 재배자, 경작), 프로세스중심관리(재배 유통 가공 판매정보)로 구체화해야한다. 시설분야는 유통시설(대규모 집하시설, 보관시설 등 종합유통처리시설)과 가공시설(가공설비현대화, 가공공장 공인규격화;ISO, GMP, HACCP)의 지속적인 시설개선과 현대화를 추진하여야 한다.

Causal Relation Analysis of Foreigners' Perceptions of Korean Ginseng Products and the Purchase Intentions (한국 인삼제품에 대한 외국인의 인식도와 구매의도의 관계 분석)

  • This study was initiated because many studies would be necessary to promote Korean ginseng products when the sales of Korean ginseng are declining and many Korean ginseng farmers are facing economic difficulties. The increase in domestic sales is important, but this study is targeting for foreigner's perceptions of Korean ginseng and how to improve the products. The goal of this study is to analyze how to increase their purchase intentions of Korean ginseng products. Questionnaire survey research methods were used to learn more about making certain improvements to ginseng products, consumers are hoping, how affect their perceptions and purchase intentions of Korean ginseng, as well as how foreigners' perceptions of Korean ginseng products affects purchase intentions. Because it's difficult to find any studies about foreigner's Korean ginseng purchase intentions, the survey was expanded to include how people take care of their health, the accessibility of purchasing ginseng products, psychological factors as well as consumer characteristics, satisfaction with Korean ginseng, and intentions of buying Korean ginseng products. The result of the analysis on how making certain desired improvements to and perceptions of Korean ginseng products affect purchase intentions indicated that Korean ginseng perceptions highly affected the purchase intentions; however making certain improvements to ginseng products showed a low impact on the purchase intentions. In other words, making certain improvements, such as convenience of the ginseng products, doesn't affected Korean ginseng purchase intentions directly. On the other hand, it showed that the usefulness, its high quality, and safety trust of Korean ginseng have a big impact on purchasing intentions. If the ginseng that is grown and processed in Korea is better promoted for its high value, the Korean ginseng farmers who are facing many economic difficulties will be able to raise their income.

  • 최근 중국 WTO가입과 농산물의 시장의 개방에 따라 국내에서 경쟁력이 높은 고품질의 농산물을 생산하려고 있다. 특히 쌀 시장도 2004년에는 완전 개방되므로 이에 대비해서 쌀의 고품질화 및 특수미 개발로 우리 쌀의 국제적 경쟁력을 높여야 한다. 현재 일본 등의 선진국에서는 영양강화미, 발아현미, 향미, 기능성 쌀 등 다양한 특수 미를 생산하고 있다. 국내에서도 인삼 쌀, 잡곡성형 쌀, 혼합곡, 버섯 쌀, 무세미 등을 비롯한 특수 미를 생산하여 판매하고 있으나, 고가, 낮은 저장성, 떨어지는 밥맛, 인공적인 처리로 인한 거부감 등 때문에 일반인에게 기호도가 매우 낮은 편이다.
