  • In Korea, approximately 48% of all households live in apartments, which are a form of multi-unit dwellings, and this figure increases up to 58%, when row houses and multiplex houses are included. As such, majority of the population reside in multi-unit dwellings where they are exposed to the problem of floor impact noise that can cause disputes and conflicts. Accordingly, this study was conducted to manufacture a high-weight, high-stiffness foamed concrete in order to develop a technology to reduce the floor impact noise. For the purpose of deriving the optimum mixing ratio for the foamed concrete that best reduces the floor impact noise, the amounts of the foaming agent, lightweight aggregate and binder were varied accordingly. Also, the target characteristics of the concrete to be developed included density of over $0.7t/m^3$, compressive strength of over $2.0N/mm^2$ and thermal conductivity of under 0.19 W/mK. The results of the experiment showed that the fluidity was very excellent at over 190 mm, regardless of the type and input amount of foaming agent and lightweight aggregate. The density and compressive strength measurements showed that the target density and compressive strength were satisfied in the specimen with 50% foam mixing ratio for foamed concrete and in all of the mixtures for the lightweight aggregate foamed concrete. In addition, the thermal conductivity measurements showed that the target thermal conductivity was satisfied in all of the foamed concrete specimens, except for VS50, in the 25% replacement ratio case for Type A aggregate, and all of the mixtures for Type B aggregate.

  • When broiler litter was composted under the control of peak temperature of piles(uncontrolled, controled below $70^{\circ}C$ and below $60^{\circ}C$), changes of physical and chemical parameters were determined throughout the processing period. Broiler litter was composted in each of three $1.0{\times}1.0{\times}1.2m$ dimensional facilities for 8 weeks. After 5 to 6 weeks of composting, broiler litter was converted into the final compost with no ammonia odour, rice hull size of particle, and faint brown color. Central temperature of piles reached to the peak(about $69{\sim}70^{\circ}C$) within 3 to 4 days after composting and gradually decreased thereafter. The final product contained 26.5% of moisture, 9.0~9.1 of pH, and 14.0~14.3 of C/N ratio. The increase of C/N ratio with processing resulted from the considerable loss of N. The total wet weight of the final composts was an average of 38.3% of the initial weight, the dry weight of those 64.1%, and the organic matter weight of those 34.8%. Treatments of central temperature of composts did not affect changes of moisture, pH, C/N ratio, total wet weight, total dry weight, and total organic matter weight. In general, composted broiler litter was converted into the final product with little change in physical and chemical parameters after 5 to 6 weeks of processing. Nitrogen losses during the composting should be prevented for the improvement of the composting efficiency of broiler litter.

  • Cross section design of a prop-blade is carried out for VTOL(Vertical Takeoff and Landing) Quad Tilt Prop-rotor UAV with a maximum takeoff weight of 55 kg and a maximum cruising speed of 180 km/h. Design procedure for cross section design is established and design requirements for prop-blade are identified. Through the procedure, cross section design is carried out to meet the identified requirements. Main design factors including stiffness, weight per unit length, and elastic axis are obtained by using a finite element section analysis program, and the design weight of the prop-blade is predicted. The obtained design factors are used along with the rotor system analysis program CAMRAD II to evaluate the dynamic stability of prop-blade in operating environment. In addition, the prop-blade load is obtained by CAMRAD II software, and it is used to verify the safety of the prop-blade structure. If the design results are not satisfactory, design changes are made in an iterative manner until the results satisfy the design requirements.

  • The stress history of a bridge is different depending on the characteristic of traffic flow. Because the flow is varied with vehicle type, weight and headway time etc., statistical analysis in bridges is necessary to estimate the history by traffic flow. By applying the statistical analyses in fracture mechanics, the remaining service life of the structure can be estimated. In this paper, 1)the statistical analysis of vehicle type, weight and headway time etc. to analysis randomness of traffic flow, 2)measuring and analysis of stress history of a real bridge, 3)reappearance of stress history by Monte-Carlo Simulation using constitution ratio of vehicle type, weight and headway time as probabilitic variable, 4)comparision of the calculated and modelled stress history, 5)calculation of reduction factor, 6)comparision of frequency of stress range depending on span length etc. were performed. From the results, the basic modelled stress history which is necessary for the method of estimation of the remaining service life of the structure could be suggested.

  • This paper aims at the design of wheel and axle with cap. The cap is conceptually designed by using TRIZ/CAE. Wheel axle is used at railway vehicle to safety and it is always investigated to reduce the railway vehicle weight. The cap has hollow shaft with the material of SM45C. Cap is located in the bearing seat of wheel and axle. The cap becomes durable within the allowable stress of EN13103, 13104 standard. In this study, the strength of wheel and axle with cap becomes higher than that of hollow shaft. The weight of wheel and axle with cap becomes lower by about 6.75 percent than that of solid shaft. The confidence of wheel and axle with cap can be improved by comparing with solid and hollow shafts.

  • The present study evaluates the validity of different equations specified in code provisions and proposed by the existing researchers to predict the concrete tensile capacities (direct tensile strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture) using a comprehensible database including 361 lightweight concrete (LWC), 1,335 normal-weight concrete (NWC) and 221 heavy-weight concrete (HWC) specimens. Most of the equations express the concrete tensile strengths as a function of its compressive strength based on the limited NWC concrete test data. However, the present database shows that the concrete tensile capacities are significantly affected by its unit weight as well. As a result, the inconsistency between experiments and predictions by the different models increases when the concrete unit weight is below 2,100 kg/$m^3$ and concrete compressive strength is above 50 MPa. On the other hand, new models proposed by the present study considering the concrete unit weight predict the tensile strengths of concrete with more accuracy.

  • Outer tie rod is lighter than other, but there is the trend item weight and the number is increasing due to vehicle performance improvement. Thus, to improve vehicle fuel efficiency, weight lightening is essential. Therefore, this research performed the finite element analysis to investigate the structural performance of the outer tie rod for an electrical vehicle. This study was performed as the preliminary study for a lightweight design of the outer tie rod. The weight of outer tie rod was optimized by adopting the steel material and applying the trial and error method. The strengths due to durability and buckling should be considered in the structural design of an outer tie rod. Furthermore, the meta model-based optimization was applied to obtain its lightweight design, leading to 9 % weigh reduction.

  • Owing to the present problems of air pollution and fossil fuel exhaustion, ongoing research has been actively focused on developing an electric actuator system that can utilize diverse energy sources without producing any exhaust gas. Since the motors of such electric vehicles generally rotate at a high speed, the initial acceleration capability required for an automobile is insufficient. In this study, the motor output was decelerated by the transmission; the initial acceleration of the vehicle was increased, and the motor size and weight were reduced. The driving motor and transmission, which each form isolated structures, were integrated to simplify the connector for input and output. By reducing the cooling system's capacity, a vehicle was designed and manufactured that represents a structural change in effective technology.

  • The present study aims to investigate the influence of the water to binder ratio of finishing mortar on the floor impact sound of apartments. For this, same resilient materials Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) with constant dynamic stiffness and different mortar layers with 52 %, 66 % and 72 % water to binder ratio respectively were used to build floating floor structures on which floor impact sounds were measured in standard testing facilities. As a result, it was found that light-weight floor impact sound was transmitted well when the water to binder ratio was 52% due to the high density. In case of heavy-weight floor impact sounds, since water to binder ratio of finishing mortar becomes higher as the weight of upper layer of resilient material lighter, it was shown that the natural frequency of floating floor structure moves to 63 Hz bandwidth which eventually cause a higher sound pressure level of floor impact sound. Thus, effect of water to binder ratio of mortar on the heavy-weight floor impact sounds was investigated.
