An Analysis of Patients distribution Rescued or Tansported by Fire Service Department Helicopter at the KangWonDo Region, KOREA (강원도 지역에서의 소방헬기에 의한 이송환자 분석)

  • This analysis is accomplished by using 331 rescue and medical evacuation cases performed by KangWonDo Fire Service Department Aviation(KFSA-119 Heicopters) between Jan. 1998 and Oct. 2002. By analysing injury causes, annual differences, sexual, scenic(locaional) distribution and wounded part distribution, this study tried to figure out the general tendency of the helicopter-transported patients in Korea. The results are as follows; 1. The whole population of the patients rescued and transported by helicopters is increasing by the annual rate of 150%~200%. 2. For the locational (scenic) distribution of the patients, 57% (190 cases) of the target population were injured on their mountain-climbing or tracking. 3. 12% (41 cases) of the target population were the Inter-Hospital transport cases. 4. 6% (16 cases) were the expired cases. 5. for the wounded part distribution, 46% (106 cases) were muscular skeletal injuries. 6. The aircraft and personnel of the KFSA were rescue-oriented, so for the EMS operations especially inter-hospital transport missions, different medical equipments and personnels are needed.

Design of Aircraft Internal On-glass Antennas (항공기용 내장형 온-글래스 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose an aircraft on-glass antenna for FM radio reception. To obtain broad matching bandwidth, we employed a multiple loop as the basic antenna structure, and the shape of the loops mimics the frame of a window in order to ensure pilots' field of view as large as possible. The detailed design parameters of the multi-loop structure were determined using a Pareto genetic algorithm with a full wave EM simulation tool. The optimized on-glass antenna was built and installed on a Korean utility helicopter (KUH) The measurement results showed a half power matching bandwidth of about 63.3 %, average vertical bore-sight gain of about -12.98 dBi in the FM band.

  • The purpose of this research is to support decision making of emergency rescue system with GIS which selects landing point of emergency rescue for emergency situation on mountains and dropping point when landing is impossible. The area of research was limited to Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do. The results were divided into two values; landing point of helicopter on mountains and dropping point. Digital map, forest type map and forest soil map were utilized as fundamental data. Factors of landing point were slope, topographical characteristics, vegetation characteristics and area of helicopter landing point by helicopter data. And, for dropping point, slope and vegetation characteristics were divided as factors and GIS intersect function was utilized for the analysis. But, this research was conducted by excluding factor values of wind direction, wind velocity, etc. In the future, it's necessary to improve effectiveness of the analysis more by making a connection with Meteorological Agency DB.

  • There has been a lot of discussion to revise military helicopter crashworthiness design criteria. In this paper, newly revised crashworthiness criteria is analyzed centering around the Crashworthiness Index which is the core content of revised criteria. The Crashworthiness Index(CI) was conceived as an adequate method to quantify the crashworthiness capabilities of a rotorcraft design. The index can rate how well a new or derivative design complies with design requirements. The CI rating is made up of seven assessment areas. While the Basic Airframe Crashworthiness(BAC) area tends to be an objective calculation, other areas of the CI tend to be more subjective. Therefore, in this paper, detail CI calculation process for the BAC area is analyzed to inspect the effectiveness of revised criteria.

  • In this study, scale-down design of full-scale Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) main rotor blade has been investigated. The scaled model system were designed for the measurement of aerodynamic performance, tip vortex and noise source. For the purpose of considering the same aerodynamic loads, the Mach-scale method has been applied. The Mach-scaled model has the same tip Mach number, and it also has the same normalized frequencies. That is, the Mach-scaled model is analogous to full-scale model in the view point of aerodynamics and structural dynamics. Aerodynamic scale-down process could be completed just by adjusting scaling dimensions and increasing rotating speed. In the field of structural dynamics, design process could be finished by confirming the rotating frequencies of the designed blade with the stiffness and inertial properties distributions produced by sectional design. In this study, small-scaled blade sectional design were performed by applying domestic composite prepregs and structural dynamic characteristics of designed model has been investigated.

  • Computer applications for engineering design evolve rapidly. Many design frameworks were developed by the simulation based systems so that organizations could achieve significant benefits due to cost reduction in designing. However, today’s transient design issue requires being adaptable to more complicated and atypical problems. In this paper the Multidisciplinary Language Runtime (MLR) design framework is developed. The MLR provides flexible and extensible interface between analysis modules and numerical analysis codes. It also supports Meta Modeling, Meta Variable, and XML script for atypical design formulation. By applying object-oriented design scheme to implement abstractions of the key components required for iterative systems analyses, the MLR provides flexible and extensible problem-solving environment.

  • The basic mechanical properties of helicopter rotor blade are important parameters for the analysis of helicopter performance. However, it is difficult to estimate these properties because the most of rotor blades consist of various materials such as composite materials and metals, etc. In this paper, the bending/torsional stiffness for composite rotor blade of unmanned helicopter were evaluated through experimental and analytical studies. In finite element analysis, the bending/torsional stiffness were evaluated through the relationship of load-displacement and element stiffness matrix. The evaluated stiffness from the measured strains and displacements in bending and torsional test agreed well with the derived results of FEA.

  • In recent years, high-performance flying drones attract attention for many peoples. In particular, the drone equipped with multi-rotor is expanding its range of utilization in video imaging, aerial rescue, logistics, monitoring, measurement, military field, etc. However, the control function of its controller is very simple. In this study, using a G-sensor mounted on a mobile device, implements an enhanced controller to control flying drones through the intuitive gesture of user. The implemented controller improves the gesture recognition performance using a neural network algorithm.

  • The basic service model is to be process transmting patient health information from various medical devices to evacuation hospital through gateway collecting it in aerial emergency medicine environments. In this paper, we study on the most secure transmission scheme in case that personal patient informations are transmitted from medical devices to gateway. Moreover we compare and analyze existing methods on secure transmission and suggest an optimal alternative on the basis of international standard, ISO/IEEE 11073.

  • A parallel computing technique was applied to large scale structure analysis or aerodynamic design and it is a essential element in reducing the huge computation time for large scale design problem. We can use a many computers for reducing the analysis time of multidisciplinary design optimization. But previous MDO frameworks can not support a parallel design process technique so still existing which calls an analysis program continuously. In this paper, We developed a MDO framework(MLR) which supports a parallel design process to solve sequential analysis call. Finally, three sample cases are presented to show the efficiency of design time using the suggested MDO framework.
