Experimental Studios on the Mechanism of Reproductive Cycle in the Longchin Goby Chasmichthys dolichognathus (HILGENDORF) (점망둑, Chasmichthys dolichognathus의 생식기구에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The mechanism of reproductive cycle of longchin goby Chasmichthys dolichognathus was investigated for the annual variations of gonadosomatic index(GSI), histological changes of gonad, reproductive cycle, and initiating and terminating factors of the breeding season. The experimental fish were captured in the tide pool of Tongbaeksom, Pusan, Korea from February 1983 to September 1984. Experimental fish for the study of initiating and terminating factors of the breeding season were maintained in filtered recirculating aquariums and exposed to various temperature and photoperiod regimes. The ovary is a pair of sac-shaped organ, and the testicular structure is tubular and it is connected to the seminal vesicle which is located at the posterior end of the testis. GSI began to increase from February when the water temperature began to increase and reached peak in April. It began to decrease from August, the top water temperature season, and maintained relatively low values until January. The annual reproductive cycle includes successive six developmental stages : early growing from December to February, late growing from January to March, early mature from February to May, late mature and ripe from March to August, spawning from April to July, degeneration and resting stage from May to December. An experimental study based on the reproductive cycle of this species indicated that rising temperature under long photoperiod during spring stimulated gonadal maturation, whereas terminating factor of the breeding season with recrudescence of the gonads was demonstrated as high water temperature during summer regardless of photoperiod.

Physicochemical Properties of Rice-based Expanded Snacks according to Extrusion Conditions (Extrusion 제조 조건에 따른 쌀 스낵 제품의 이화학적 품질특성)

  • Physicochemical properties of rice-based expanded snacks extruded with rice flour, high amylose starch, and isolated soy protein were investigated using a twin-screw extruder. The ingredients were extruded at various feed moisture contents (19~23%) and screw speeds (200~400 rpm) at a constant feed rate (43.4 kg/hr). Bulk density and apparent density of rice snacks were 0.06~0.21, and 0.55~0.65 respectively. Bulk density, apparent density, water absorption index, and breaking strength of rice snacks increased with increasing feed moisture content and decreasing screw speed. However, expansion and water solubility index of rice snacks increased with decreasing feed moisture content and increasing screw speed. Hunter's color L values of rice snacks was lower with increasing screw speed at feed moisture contents of 19% and 21%, but was not significantly different from a feed moisture content of 23%. On the other hand, a and b values of rice snacks were higher with increasing screw speed a feed moisture content of 19%. X-ray diffraction intensity of rice snacks decreased with decreasing feed moisture content and increasing screw speed. X-ray diffraction of rice snacks was V-type at feed moisture contents of 19% and 21% and screw speeds of 300, and 400 rpm. In the microstructure of the cross section of rice snacks, air cells in rice snacks were not well formed, and cell walls were thicker with increasing feed moisture content and decreasing screw speed.

  • Undoped SrB $i_2$T $a_2$O$_{9}$, donor-doped Sr$_{0.99}$B $i_2$(Ta$_{0.99}$W$_{0.01}$)$_2$O$_{9}$ and acceptor-doped SrB $i_2$(Ta$_{0.99}$Ti$_{0.01}$)$_2$O$_{8.99$ ceramics were prepared and their microstructure, ferroelectric P-E hysteresis and Curie temperature were investigated. Grain size did not influence P-E hysteresis curve in undoped SrB $i_2$T $a_2$O$_{9}$ ceramics. Donor-Doped Sr$_{0.99}$B $i_2$(Ta$_{0.99}$W$_{0.01}$)$_2$O$_{9}$ ceramics showed more saturated P-E hysteresis curve with larger remanent polarization (P$_{r}$) than undoped SrB $i_2$T $a_2$O$_{9}$ ceramics while acceptor-doped SrB $i_2$(Ta$_{0.99}$Ti$_{0.01}$)$_2$O$_{8.99}$ ceramics led to a pinched P-E hysteresis loop. Larger polarization in donor-doped Sr$_{0.99}$B $i_2$(Ta$_{0.99}$W$_{0.01}$)$_2$O$_{9}$ ceramics resulted from easier domain wall motion by Sr-vacancies.

  • This paper is able to be solved by improving degradation in multi-path environment by adjust beam pattern angle through modifying pulse phase of each antennas by using TRM (Transmitter Receiver Module). Beam Scanning Array Antenna, which is transmitter/receiver that improves degradation in multi-path environment without any signal distortion, is designed and manufactured. Beam Scanning Array Antenna should be able to send/receive signal at the antenna's longitudinal part without distortion and should not influences other systems. Also, it should include target detecting ability by beam steering.Dispersion characteristic of Beam Scanning Antenna, which is designed, is analysed by using fidelity, and steering and radar resolution performance is verified by using $1cm{\times}1cm$ sized target. To manufacture Beam Scanning Array Antenna, control board and GUI, which is able to control Vivaldi Antenna for IR-UWB, Tri-Band Wilkinson power divider, and TRM (Transmitter Receiver Module), is designed. Throughout this research, developed Beam Scanning UWB Array Antenna system is adoptable for radar application field. and time domain analysis techniques by using network analyser made the antenna characteristics analysis for setting up antenna more accurate. In addition, it makes beam width checking without difficulties.

Comparison on the fire performance of additional insulation materials for improving the fire retardancy in engine-room of FRP vessel (FRP 선박 기관실 난연성 향상을 위한 추가 방열재의 화재성능비교)

  • To prevent the flame spread in FRP vessel in fire, the engine-room of the vessel should be constructed additionally with laminated fire-retardant resin over 3 times or equivalent insulation materials to former according to the relevant standard for FRP vessel structure. It is surveyed that insulation materials called 'Gel coat' are widely used in FRP fishing vessel, however, test method and its criteria for Gel coat are not clearly establish and have not been evaluated yet, while test method and criteria for fire-retardant resin and fire-retardant polyurethane composite are described in test standard for type-approval. In this study, 3 fire-retardant resins, 4 gel coats, 1 flame-retardant paint and 1 polyurethane composite were selected based on the survey and were evaluated according to both IMO FTP Code part 5 and flame-retardant test. When comparing based on CFE values from flame-spread test, average value for 4 gel coats were lower than that of 3 fire-retardant resins. As for flame-retardant test, there were no significant differences between fire-retardant resin and gel coat, based on charred area.

Prediction of Thermal Behavior of Automotive LNG Fuel Tank (LNG 자동차 연료 탱크의 열적 거동에 대한 예측)

  • The thermal performance of LNG fuel tanks of vehicles is determined by the time for non-venting storage of fuel and the amount of fuel supplied to the engine. In this study, we selected a double-walled vacuum-insulated fuel tank with a volume of 450 liter, and the properties of the fuel contained in it were assumed to be the same as those of the methane($CH_4$). For the increasing the non-venting fuel storage time, we propose the use of shielded penetration pipes in the tank. We compared the storage times of the tank used in our study with those of the conventional fuel tank. Further, the additional heat input required to maintain the fuel pressure necessary for an appropriate fuel supply rate was predicted. For these parameters, we derived a thermodynamic relationship that can be used to estimate the rate of increase in pressure for a known heat input, and we obtained equations for estimating the rate of heat leaked by using the established heat transfer model. From the results of numerical computation, we found the non-venting storage time of the tank with shielded pipes to be 25-30% higher than that of the tank with unshielded pipes. Further, we determined the appropriate operation conditions by taking into consideration the transfer rate of additional heat provided to the fuel tank.

A Study on Walking Characteristics of Novices at Onboard Environments under Blackout Conditions in a Training Ship (선내 정전조건에서 승선환경 비숙련자의 이동특성 실험 연구)

  • Because most of the passengers are not accustomed with onboard environments, it is very important to analyze and predict the behaviors' characteristics of passengers under disasters' conditions, and apply those results for making countermeasures. On this view point, this study focused on the walking characteristics of onboard-novices are tested and analyzed under blackout condition that has high possibility to happen. As a result, comparing to under normal lighting conditions, the waking times under blackout conditions are 155.8~247.1 % longer on full path, 56.9~331.7 % on corridors, 75.3~152.9 % on stairs, respectively. And under the same blackout conditions, walking times in cases of the exit guidance marks being attached on top side of walls saved times, like 21.6~24.0 % on full path, 37.7~58.9 % on corridors, 18.7~19.2 % on stairs, comparing to the cases of exit guidance marks being not attached. On the other hand, after tests under without exit guidance marks, 60.7% among respondents answered that internal structures like wall/stair (35.7 %) and handrail (25 %) are very helpful to decide way findings, and 28.6 % selected personal instincts is important. But 50 % responded that exit guide marks are effective to find ways, after the tests under with exit guidance marks.

  • One of the major trends of automotive networking architecture is the introduction of automotive Ethernet. Ethernet is already used in single automotive applications (e.g. to connect high-data-rate sources as video cameras), it is expected that the ongoing standardization at IEEE (IEEE802.3bw - 100BASE-T1, respectively IEEE P802.3bp - 1000BASE-T1) will lead to a much broader adoption in future. Those applications will not be limited to simple point-to-point connections, but may affect Electric/Electronic(EE) Architectures as a whole. It is agreed that IP based traffic via Ethernet could be secured by application of well-established IP security protocols (e.g., IPSec, TLS) combined with additional components like, e.g., automotive firewall or IDS. In the case of safety and real-time related applications on resource constraint devices, the IP based communication is not the favorite option to be used with complicated and performance demanding TLS or IPSec. Those applications will be foreseeable incorporate Layer-2 based communication protocols as, e.g., currently standardized at IEEE[13]. The present paper reflects the state-of-the-art communication concepts with respect to security and identifies architectural challenges and potential solutions for future Ethernet Switch-based EE-Architectures. It also gives an overview and provide insights into the ongoing security relevant standardization activities concerning automotive Ethernet. Furthermore, the properties of non-automotive Ethernet security mechanisms as, e.g., IEEE 802.1AE aka. MACsec or 802.1X Port-based Network Access Control, will be evaluated and the applicability for automotive applications will be assessed.

Geophysical Investigation of Gas Hydrate-Bearing Sediments in the Sea of Okhotsk (오호츠크해 가스하이드레이트 퇴적층의 지구물리 탐사)

  • As the sea connecting with the East Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk is the most potential area of gas hydrates in the world. In other to examine geophysical structures of gas hydrate-bearing sediments in the Sea of Okhotsk, the CHAOS (hydro-Carbon Hydrate Accumulation in the Okhotsk) international research expedition was carried out in August 2003. In the expedition, high-resolution seismic and geochemical survey was also conducted. Sparker seismic profiles show only diffusive high-amplitude reflections without BSRs at BSR depth. It means that BSR appears to be completely different images on seismic profiles obtained using different frequencies. Many gas chimneys rise up from BSR depth to seafloor. The chimneys can be divided into two groups with different seismic characteristics; wipe-out (WO) and enhanced reflection (ER) chimneys. Different seismic responses in the chimneys would be caused by amount of gas and gas hydrates filling in the chimneys. In hydroacoustic data, a lot of gas flares rise up several hundreds meters from seafloor to the water column. All flares took placed at the depths within gas hydrate stability zone. It is interpreted that gas hydrate-bearing sediments with low porosity and permeability due to gas hydrate filling in the pore space make good pipe around gas chimneys in which gas is migrating up without loss of amount. Therefore, large-scale gas flare at the site on gas chimney releases into the water column.

  • The noise problem is one of the major problems associated with large cities and is considered important factor not only in maintenance but also in development of cities. Accordingly, the noise map is being increasingly used in city planning and design. However, the existing two-dimensional noise maps only show regional, planar distribution of noise. This study presented a method to build a data model for analyzing and visualizing noise levels at fine scale considering the vertical distribution of noise in a building. By expanding the 2D topology concept used in conventional GIS to 3D, it suggested a 3D GIS data model that makes 3D spatial queries, analyses and visualization possible and applied the proposed approach to building a 3D noise information system. By building and testing the system, the study showed different functionalities including 3D spatial queries and 3D visualization of noise levels varying temporally or according as the height of sound-proof walls. In each case, the population exposed to noise was quantitatively computed to illustrate the potential in the areas of city planning and design.
