Post-tensioned prestressed concrete members experience immediate prestress losses as well as time-dependent prestress losses such as creep, dry shrinkage and relaxation. In addition, the stress of the upper and lower parts of the member changes due to the change in dead load due to the replacement of the upper slab and/or pavement. Such changes in fiber stress may affect the safety of the member, and it is necessary to adjust the prestressing force. Therefore, in this study, a screw type of re-tensioning post-tension kit is proposed, and it is verified that the safety against load and the stability against strain are satisfied through the load transfer test specified in EAD160004 and KCI-PS101.

This study was initiated to develop an effective inspection method to detect defects such as corrosion in closed-cell steel members in steel-box girder bridges. The ultrasonic velocity method among various non-destructive method was selected as a rapid and effective method to derive the average propagation velocity in the medium by using the ultrasonic wave velocity method for specimens of different thickness. The regression analysis was performed based on the experimental results, and the results was interpolated to evaluate the prediction accuracy. If the material properties are identical, this ultrasonic velocity method can predict the thickness using the averaged transmitted velocity. In addition, a continuous scanning method moving at 200 mm/s was tested for scanning a wide area of a bridge. The results exhibited that the continuous scanning method was able to effectively scan the different thickness of a bridge.

This paper describes the process of developing a concrete median barrier of SB4 grade with anti-glare function. The development section has a height and width of 1,270mm and 560mm, respectively. A wire mesh is placed in the center of the cross section to improve the protection performance. Collision analysis predicted that this section satisfies the strength and occupant protection performance, and that no damage to the barrier occurs. In the actual collision test, it was confirmed that this section satisfies the strength and occupant protection performance. However, damage was observed on two concrete barrier when the truck crashed. In order to improve the accuracy of the collision analysis of the concrete barrier in the future, it is considered that a study on the model development and continuous collision analysis method for domestic commercial vehicles should be carried out.

This study was conducted for the purpose of examinating the safety and economical efficiency of large high tension bolted joints. The specimen using F10T-M30 large high strength bolts has been selected and static tensile test has been conducted to evaluate the slip characteristics. In addition, finite element analysis has been carried out to estimate the number of required bolts. As a result, the average slip coefficient of M30 high strength bolts exceeded 0.4 - the standard in highway bridge design specification - and has satisfied the slip strength, which is the same as that of M22 high strength bolts. In addition, if F13T-M22 high strength bolts were applied, the number of required bolts decreased by 21%, and if F10T-M30 high strength bolts were applied, the number of required bolts decreased by 46%, that leads to the conclusion that the economical efficiency in accordance with diametering of high strength bolts was now verified.

The expansion joint is installed to offset the expansion of the superstructure and must ensure sufficient gap during its service life. In detailed guideline of safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis for bridge, damage due to lack or excessive gap is specified, but there are insufficient standards for determining the abnormal behavior of superstructures. In this study, a data-based maintenance was proposed by continuously monitoring the expansion-gap data of the same expansion joint. A total of 2,756 data were collected from 689 expansion joint, taking into account the effects of season. We have developed a method to evaluate changes in the expansion joint-gap that can analyze the thermal movement through four or more data at the same location, and classified the factors that affect the superstructure behavior and analyze the influence of each factor through deep learning and explainable artificial intelligence(AI). Abnormal behavior of the superstructure was classified into narrowing and functional failure through the expansion joint-gap evaluation graph. The influence factor analysis using deep learning and explainable AI is considered to be reliable because the results can be explained by the existing expansion gap calculation formula and bridge design.

This study presents the emergency assessment method about seismic safety of cable-supported bridges using seismic acceleration sensors installed on the primary structural elements of them. The structural models of bridges are updated iteratively to make their dynamic characteristics to be similar to those of real bridges based on the comparison of their natural frequencies with those of real bridges estimated from acceleration data measured at ordinary times by the seismic acceleration sensor. The displacement at the location of each seismic acceleration sensor is derived by seismic analysis using design earthquake, and the peak value of them is determined as the disaster management criteria in advance. The displacement time history is calculated by the double integration of the acceleration time history which is recorded at each seismic acceleration sensor and filtered by high cut(low pass) and low cut(high pass) filters. Finally, the seismic safety is evaluated by the comparison of the peak value in calculated displacement time history with the disaster management criteria determined in advance. The applicability of proposed methodology is verified by performing the seismic safety assessment of 12 cable-supported bridges using the acceleration data recorded during Gyeongju earthquake.

It is necessary to develop a rational method for evaluating the safety of bridges for the passage of inseparable crane vehicles exceeding the limit weight. In this study, the same method applied to the development of the recently introduced reliability-based highway bridge design code - limit state design method is applied to the calibration of the live load factor for the crane vehicle. Structural analysis was performed on the concrete bridge and the required strengths of the previous design code, the current design code and AASHTO LRFD were compared. When comparing the unfactored live load effect, the live load of the crane was greater than that of the current and previous design code. When comparing the required strength by applying the calibrated live load factor, the previous design code demands the largest strength and the current design code and the crane live load effect yields similar value. The results of safety evaluation of the actual bridges on the candidate route for the crane passage secured the same reliability as the target reliability index required by the design code and the strength of the cross section of the actual bridge is calculated greater than the required strength for the passage of the crane, which confirms the safety for the passage of the crane.

Various numerical analysis models can be used to evaluate the behavior characteristics of tunnel facilities which are representative underground structures. In general, the Mohr-Coulomb model, which is most often used for numerical analysis, is an elastic-perfect plastic behavior model. And the deformation characteristics are the same during the load increase-load reduction phase. So there is a problem that the displacement may appear different from the field situation in the case of excavation analysis. In contrast, the HS-small strain stability model has a wide range of applications for each ground. And it is known that soil deformation characteristics can be analyzed according to field conditions by enabling input of initial elastic modulus and nonlinear curve parameter and so on. However, civil engineers are having difficulty using nonlinear models that can apply material nonlinear properties due to difficulties in estimating ground property coefficients. In this study, the necessity of rational model selection was reviewed by comparing the results of seismic performance evaluation using the Mohr-Coulomb model, which civil engineers generally apply for numerical analysis of tunnels, and the HS Small strain Stiffness model, which can consider ground nonlinearity.

Recently, as the size of transportation vessels has increased, there is a growing need for securing the front-water depths of existing port facilities. The method of deepening front-water depth is securing the depth of the port facility, and it is reinforced by grouting after excavating the rubble-mound to the required depth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reinforcing performance and filling performance of thixotropic grout as a grouting material for reinforcing rubble-mound. Compressive strength tests were carried out for two types of thixotropic grout, and 5 specimens with a diameter of 400 mm and a height of 530 mm were manufactured and evaluated for filling performance. The required strength of reinforced rubble-mound required to ensure the safety of the structure is 6 MPa. All the thixotropic grouts used in this study were found to satisfy the required strength over 9 MPa at 7 days of age. As a result of visual observation of filling state of the filling performance test specimens, it was confirmed that the thixotropic grout was well filled up to the desired fillet height.

Recently, the number of aging concrete structures is steadily increasing. This is because many of these structures are reaching their expected lifespan. Such structures require accurate inspections and persistent maintenance. Otherwise, their original functions and performance may degrade, potentially leading to safety accidents. Therefore, research on objective inspection technologies using deep learning and computer vision is actively being conducted. High-resolution images can accurately observe not only micro cracks but also spalling and exposed rebar, and deep learning enables automated detection. High detection performance in deep learning is only guaranteed with diverse and numerous training datasets. However, surface damage to concrete is not commonly captured in images, resulting in a lack of training data. To overcome this limitation, this study proposed a method for generating concrete surface damage images, including cracks, spalling, and exposed rebar, using stable diffusion. This method synthesizes new damage images by paired text and image data. For this purpose, a training dataset of 678 images was secured, and fine-tuning was performed through low-rank adaptation. The quality of the generated images was compared according to three base models of stable diffusion. As a result, a method to synthesize the most diverse and high-quality concrete damage images was developed. This research is expected to address the issue of data scarcity and contribute to improving the accuracy of deep learning-based damage detection algorithms in the future.
