Reliability-Optimal Design Method of High-Speed Railway Bridges Based upon Expected Life-Cycle Cost (기대생애주기비용에 기초한 고속철도교량의 신뢰성-최적설계 방안)

  • The reliability evaluation may be a efficient method for estimating of the quantitative structural safety considering the effect of uncertainties included in high-speed railway bridges. The expected life-cycle cost(LCC) based upon the reliability evaluation will reasonably offer the safety level and design criteria of high-speed railway bridges. Therefore, this study determined the expected life-cycle cost and optimal design method of high-speed railway bridges on the basis of the result of the numerical analysis and reliability evaluation. For this, after creating various design method based upon the standard design of high-speed railway bridges, the numerical analysis is conducted on each of the alternative design methods. The reliability evaluation by the design strength limit state function is conducted considering the effect of external uncertainties on the basis of the numerical analysis result. The expected life-cycle cost of high-speed railway bridges is calculated on the basis of the reliability evaluation result by each of the alternative design methods. Also, the optimal design method is determined using the calculated expected life-cycle cost. In addition, The result of reliability evaluation and expected life-cycle cost of optimal design method are examined considering the effect of internal uncertainties. It is expected that the result of this study can be used as a basic information for the systematic safety evaluation and optimal structure design of high-speed railway bridges.

A Study on Controlling the Negative Reaction of Cable Stayed Bridge Considering Constructability and Economy : Vam Cong Cable Stayed Bridge in Vietnam (시공성 및 경제성을 고려한 사장교 부반력 제어 연구 : 베트남 밤콩 사장교 사례)

  • Cable stayed bridge is supported by cables and the negative reaction occurs by cables at anchor pier. To solve this problem, the proper side span ratio and the negative reaction measure of anchor pier are needed. And structural system of cable stayed bridge is determined by solution of the negative reaction as installation of the intermediate pier, counterweight and so on. In feasibility study, Vam Cong bridge was planned as 5 span cable stayed bridge. However, it was changed to 3 span cable stayed bridge in detailed design because of constructability and economy. The intermediate pier was excluded in order to improve the constructability, and side span ratio increased to control the negative reaction. As a result, Vam Cong bridge secure constructability, structural safety, and efficiency.

The Structural Reinforcing of PCC-Deck with Cantilever (캔틸레버를 갖는 PCC-Deck의 구조보강)

  • LB-Deck is one of the widely used member in interior part of girders as a permanent formwork in structures, but it is not easy to apply to the exterior part of girder due to the overturning and excessive deflection. Considering allowable deflection and safety of the exterior part, Precast Concrete Cantilever Deck (PCC-Deck) is proposed with normal LB-Deck in inner part and extended bars of LB-Deck in outer part. Both numerical analyses and experimental tests were compared to check the safety and allowable deflection for 6 types of PCC-Deck, and D-type (with 16 mm top bar, 6 mm lattice bar, 12 mm bottom bar) is suggested as an optimal structural reinforcement to the 28 kN of maximum load and 27.49 mm of final deflection. The load resisting ratio of D-type under working load of 10 kN was about 2.8 times and 77.5% of improvement was observed.

Suggestion of Priority Decision Method for Performance Evaluation Based on Risk Index for Small and Medium Sized Bridges (위험도 지수 기반 중소규모 교량 성능평가 우선순위 결정 방안 제안)

  • This paper presents a methodology for priority decision of performance evaluation of small-and-medium-sized highway bridges. This methodology could be used for establishing a maintenance strategy of those bridges which are not liable to the law of the Special Act on the Safety Control and Maintenance of Establishments and are thought laid under blind spot. The risk index are calculated considering vulnerability and social influence, then the bridges are classified as three types, one requiring immediate evaluation, the other one requiring evaluation within next year, and the third one observing, according to the index. The suggested method was applied to a small bridge under service and its field applicability verified. From this study, it was judged that this methodology could be used appropriately for establishing maintenance strategy and saving the maintenance budget.

Seismic Performance of Bridge with Pile Bent Structures in Soft Ground against Near-Fault Ground Motions (연약지반에 건설된 단일형 현장타설말뚝 교량의 근단층지반운동에 대한 내진성능)

  • For the structures near the seismogenic fault, the evaluation of seismic performance against near-fault ground motions is important as well as for design ground motions. In this study, characteristics of seismic behaviors and seismic performance of the pile-bent bridge constructed on the thick soft soil site with various weak soil layers were analyzed. The input ground motions were synthesized by the directivity pulse parameters for intra-plate regions. The ground motion acceleration histories of each layer were obtained by one-dimensional site response analysis. Each soil layer was modeled by equivalent linear springs, and multi-support excitations with different input ground motions at each soil spring were applied for nonlinear seismic analyses. The analysis result by the near-fault ground motions and ground motions matched to design spectra were compared. In case of the near fault ground motion input, the bridge behaved within the elastic range but the location of the maximum moment occurred was different from the result of design ground motion input.

  • To purpose of this study is to develop the new type of precast concrete baseplate which is only for bimodal tram. The experiments with real size specimens, which are hollowed precast baseplate, prove the efficacy of new designed baseplate by comparing with the result of RCAHEST. Through tests progressed according to different loading locations, the specimens show the stability by the safety factor of 8~9. Also the results of RCAHEST that is the nonlinear finite element method program, appropriately estimate the occuring crack on concrete, yielding reinforcement and ultimate behavior at failure.

  • Through this research safety factors were analyzed for concrete precast panels in road pavement which happens in lifting, moving, and installing. Two half size of full-scale precast concrete panels were made while one full-scale precast concrete panel was made. A series of strain gages for concrete and steel were installed and measured in lifting and transporting. Measurement results indicate that in case of 60 degree of lifting, small scale panel in dynamic motion produces about 3.54 times of strain compared to the static condition. However strain measurement of full-scale concrete panel in lifting and transportation does not yield any big difference compared to the small scale panels in the static condition. From this experimental results safety of the full-scale concrete panel was attained for the lifting system adopted in this research.

An Experimental Study on Allowable Compressive Stress at Prestress Transfer in Pre-Tensioned Concrete Members (프리텐션된 콘크리트 부재의 프리스트레스 도입시 허용압축응력에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In the previous research, allowable compressive stress was analyzed based on strength theory, in which primary effect factors on the allowable compressive stress, such as eccentricity ratio, section type, section size, prestress and self-weight moment, were considered. As its results, allowable compressive stress equations were proposed. As a series of the previous research, this paper presents an experimental study on the prestress at transfer of pre-tensioned members with different eccentricity ratios. The results shows that ACI318-08 and EC2-02 are unconservative for the members under low eccentricity ratios, and they are conservative for the members under high eccentricity ratios. Compared to the code provisions, the results indicates that the proposed equation reasonably well evaluates the allowable compressive stresses for those with different eccentricity ratios.

A Suggestion of Blasting Patterns of a Mine closed to Railway Line for Securing Safety of High Speed Train (고속철도 안전확보를 위한 노선 인접 광산의 발파패턴 제안)

  • Recently Honam high-speed railroad line is constructed in southern part of Korea. This line is for next generation HST named HEMU-430X. But there is a limestone mine near this line and this mine will make a process to dig a passageway under the railway line. In this case, safety of railroad system and stability of mine are crucial problems on both sides. By measuring mine blasting vibration and calculating regression equation, effect of mine blasting to train running is investigated quantitatively. 0.5 kine (cm/sec) is applied as a management specification of vibration based on field measurement. In this study, changes of blasting patterns are suggested to control vibration of mine blasting. And the effect of train vibration to mine is also invesitigated by numerical analysis.

Construction Safety Evaluation of Local Bearing Strength of Hollow Core Slab (중공 슬래브의 국부지압강도에 대한 시공안전성 평가)

  • Hollow Core Slab is a very efficient system that can reduce weight and its use has increased. Void slab is a concrete slab that has voids substituted with void material. Because of its saved volume of concrete, void slab can reduce weight of slabs. Also, it can't only save concrete but also can reduce carbon-emission. However, because of the unclear bearing strength at the part of void substituted with voiding material, several problems occur in constructing field. In this study, void slab including void material was built and local bearing strength test was carried out for 3 types of load(truck load, support load and Jack support load). As a result, bearing strength of void neck and upper void material is more than allowable load. And also, bearing strength of specimens with using deck and not using deck are also over allowable loads.
