In this study, a specimen composed of columns, walls, beams, and slabs was fabricated to investigate the estimated reliability using nondestructive test method for the location of structural members of reinforced concrete single layer structures. And for accurate analysis in the comparison process with the existing estimation formula, we try to analyze the reliability through statistical approach by using error rate comparison and Confidence interval estimation. As a result, The average error rate of the core test was 18.8% compared with the result of estimating the compressive strength using the ultrasonic pulse velocity method. The average error rate of the core test results compared with the result of estimating the compressive strength using the rebound hardness method was 20.1%, confirming the field applicability. it is judged that the reliability of the compressive strength estimation can be derived from the wall member to make a quick and efficient structure safety diagnosis using the ultrasonic pulse velocity method. In addition, it is judged that the reliability of the compressive strength estimation can be derived from the beam member to make a quick and efficient structure safety diagnosis using the rebound hardness method.

In the case of precise safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis of a building, a condition evaluation must be conducted to determine the safety grade. Since 2004, an evaluation method using fuzzy theory has been introduced for quantitative condition evaluation, and the relationship and importance of reinforced concrete members using fuzzy theory have been applied. Generally, fuzzy theory is a method used to deal with ambiguous expressions with unclear correlations, but at the time of development, it seems that it was developed by applying fuzzy theory as an alternative in a situation where inspection and diagnosis result data were insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the relationship and importance of evaluation items derived based on the current fuzzy theory using actual inspection and diagnosis result data.In this study, the correlation between the evaluation items was derived by using the results of 19 precision safety inspections and 9 precision safety inspections and the performance score function formula, and using this, a reasonable durability score calculation formula of the member was presented.

There have been increased economic and societal demands to continuously monitor the integrity and long-term deterioration of civil infrastructures to ensure their safety and adequate performance throughout their life span. However, it is very difficult to continuously monitor the structural condition of the pipeline structures because those are placed underground and connected each other complexly, although pipeline structures are core underground infrastructures which transport primary sources. Moreover, damage can occur at several scales from micro-cracking to buckling or loose bolts in the pipeline structures. In this study, guided wave measurement can be achieved with a self-sensing circuit using a piezoelectric active sensor. In this self sensing system, a specific frequency-induced structural wavelet response is obtained from the self-sensed guided wave measurement. To classify the multiple types of structural damage, supervised learning-based statistical pattern recognition was implemented using the damage indices extracted from the guided wave features. Different types of structural damage artificially inflicted on a pipeline system were investigated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed SHM approach.

This study entailed an investigation of a tensile stress measurement method for prestressed concrete (PSC) tendons by utilizing external magnetization. The target of this study are PS structures that have been constructed and in use. An optimal external magnetization based elasto-magnetic (EM) sensor was designed using finite element analysis considering various factors, such as coil arrangement and size, that could influence the PS tendons inside the PSC girder. The residual tensile stress resulting from the external magnetization of the girder was then determined. Further, theoretical verification was performed using the numerical and material data used in the finite element analysis for sensor design. The calculated values of strength of magnetization at the target location were matched with the finite element analysis results. Thus, the designed sensor and the feasibility of magnetizing the tendons inside the PSC I-girder using an EM sensor were validated.

In order to extend the life time of building and civil infra-structure, nowadays, patch type fibrous composite materials are widely used. Repaired concrete columns and beams gain the stiffness and strength, but they lose toughness and show brittle failure. Usually, the cracks of concrete structures are visible with naked eyes and the status of the structure in the life cycle is estimated with visible inspection. After repairing of the structure, crack visibility is blocked by repaired carbon sheets. Therefore, structural monitoring after repairing is indispensible and self diagnosis method with optical fiber sensor is very useful. In this paper, peel-out effects is detected with optical fiber sensors and the strain difference between main structure and repaired carbon sheets when they separate each other.

The purpose of this study is to present safety management improvement measures for domestic coastal accidents. The national coast was classified into five regions to investigate the status of safety accidents. Based on literature review and interviews with practitioners, problems of coastal accident safety management were derived and the improvement were suggested. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Of the 3,116 coastal accidents in Korea, rock on the shore and central sea accidents accounted for 37.58% and 30.67%, respectively. 2) In order to improve domestic coastal safety management, five measures such as the establishment of private cooperation governance were suggested.

In order to build an effective management system for structures and to propose national policy and vision for advance of safety and maintenance management, 'Fundamental Scheme of Safety and Maintenance Management for Structures' has been established and promoted. As developed countries adopt preventive maintenance management, which is preventive as well as aggressive repair/strengthening for structures, it is needed to introduce life-cycle analysis method for improvement of economical efficiency. Therefore, this paper presents not only analysis of domestic conditions and problems related to system for safety and maintenance management, policies and costs for structures but an improvement plan.

In this study, the behavior and safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake is presented. The horizontal displacement, axial force, shear force, and moment of facing of a nailed-soil excavation wall subjected to static and seismic load are analyzed using time history analysis. The safety factor based on the strength reduction technique proposed by Dawson and Roth is used to calculate the safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake. The safety factor by the proposed method is verified by comparing with those by other methods.

Blast furnaces are crucial equipment for steel production. A typical furnace risks unexpected accidents caused by contraction and expansion of the walls under an environment of high temperature and pressure. In this study, an acoustic emission (AE) monitoring system was tested for evaluating the large-scale structural health of a blast furnace. Based on the growth of shell cracks with the emission of high energy levels, severe damage can be detected by monitoring increases in the AE energy parameter. Using this monitoring system, steel mill operators can establish a maintenance period, in which actual shell cracks can be verified by cross-checking the UT. From this study, we expect that AE systems permit early fault detection for structural health monitoring by establishing evaluation criteria based on the severity of shell cracking.

This paper evaluated the structural safety of an aging PSC I-girder bridge with rebar corrosion in the deck. The geometry and rebar of the bridge were designed based on an actual PSC I-girder bridge, and the numerical analysis was performed considering the crack of concrete and yielding of steel rebar. According to the evaluation criteria of Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation, this study defined two criteria of rebar exposure and corrosion rates to construct a total of 32 corrosion scenarios. Rebar exposure was defined as the exposure of tensile rebars in the bridge deck due to the removal of cover concrete. The results of the analysis showed that the safety and rating factors of the bridge decreased with increasing rebar exposure and corrosion rates. For the rebar corrosion rate more than 50%, the safety grade of the bridge should be carefully evaluated for all the rebar exposure rate. When the rebar corrosion rate exceeds 57%, the bridge was evaluated as E grade regardless of rebar exposure rate. A correlation analysis for a 2% of rebar exposure rate found that the bridge was evaluated as A grade up to 55.8% corrosion rate, C grade up to 56.9%, D grade up to 58.5%, and E grade for corrosion rate greater than 58.5%. This study indicates the necessity of a quantitative evaluation of rebar corrosion for evaluating the structural safety of aging bridges.
