Objectives: This study aimed to reveal the oral health conditions based on the dental health behaviors of a community-dwelling elderly. Methods: The subjects included 206 rural dwellers(100 men & 106 women) aged over 65 years old, who received dental health check-ups in the local public health center and its branches attached to 6 respective Myons of Chunchongnamdo Province, during the 2-month period from Jan. 1st to Feb. 28th, 2005. They were examined by dentists and given self-administered questionnaires asking about their dental heaith behaviors and subjective symptoms of gingival bleeding. Results: The oral health conditions based on dental health behavior showed that those who have not taken dental health service a year were found to have significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.002), DMFT(p=0.002) and CPITN(p=0.018), and those who have not observed intra-oral conditions a week to have significantly less number of filled teeth(p=0.002) and significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.000) and CPITN (p=0.000) than their respective counterparts. In terms of brushing, those who brushed their teeth below "3 times/day" were found to have significantly greater number of decayed teeth(p=0.000), missing teeth(p=0.000), DMFT(p=0.000) and CPITN(p=0.000) than their counterparts. In terms of time spent in brushing, those who spends "below 3 minutes" had significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.002) and DMFT(p=0.041), and significantly less number of filled teeth(p=0.036). According to the use of aid tools for cleaning teeth, the group who don't use them had significantly greater number of DMFT(p=0.041) and CPITN(p=0.018) than its counterpart. Classified by smoking habits, smoking groups had significantly greater number of decayed teeth(p=0.035) and CPITN(p=0.001) than non-smoking groups. Multiple regression analysis of the study data revealed that the significant factors influencing number of decayed teeth were number of brushing, sex and intra-oral observation (explanatory power of 14.2%). The significant factors for number of filled teeth were sex, intra-oral observation, use of aid tools, frequency of brushing, subjective health conditions and drinking of sweet beverages(explanatory power of 18.2%), those for number of missing teeth, number of brushing and age(explanatory power of 13.9%) those for DMFT, number of brushing, sex, use of dental service, age(explanatory power: 13.5%), and those for CPITN included smoking habits, use of dental service, use of aid tools (explanatory power: 10.8%). Conclusions: The study results revealed that the dental health behavior of the elderly population is in poor conditions and their consequent intra-oral health conditions are not good. To improve their oral conditions, public campaign and education will be needed to modify unhealthy dental health behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to look into the perception, experience, treatment of early childhood caries (ECC) and influential factors of perception in order to provide basic data useful for preventing the ECC by examining the relationship between oral health of young children in infancy and mother. In this study, 277 mothers were surveyed who had children in children under 6 years old and visiting the pediatrics, day care center, and pediatric dental clinics located in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do from July 10, 2013 to September 5 of the same year. The results obtained from the survey were analyzed through chi-square test, t-test, and binary logistic regression analysis by using the SPSS 18.0, a statistical program. The results of analysis showed that ECC in children under 6 years old was associated with mother's age, education background of mothers, number of children and monthly income and had a significant correlation with mother's oral health-related knowledge and oral health care of their children. Thus, it would be necessary to develop oral health education programs and implement such oral health education programs at a national level on a regular basis for the mothers of young children in infancy and would-be mothers in order to reduce the ECC in infancy and promote oral health.
In our study, we investigated self-evaluation of tongue coating, self-rating intensity of oral malodor, habit related to tooth brushing and tongue scraping. Investigation was carried out on 714 Korean college students by method of self-reporting to prepared questionnaire. The obtained data were processed and analyzed with SAS program. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Students who have frequently experienced tongue coating have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 2. The self-reporting prevalence rate of oral malodor is 81.1%. 3. Students who brush teeth shortly and irregularly have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 4. Students with strong oral malodor have tendency to neglect scraping tongue. 5. Students with low index of tooth brushing or low index of oral hygiene controllability have tendency to have stronger oral malodor than the other students. 6. Mean scales of tooth brushing index(p<.0001), tongue scraping index(p=0.0439) and oral hygiene controllability index(p<.0001) among students in the department of Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology are significantly higher than those among general students.

Objectives: This study was performed in order to figure out oral health knowledge level of home room teachers of elementary schools in Daegu area. This study was conducted from March through May 2008. Methodology: A total of three hundred and ten (43 male teachers and 267 female teachers) home room teachers of elementary schools were surveyed. The collected data were analyzed by X2 test and one way ANOVA test by using SPSS 11.0 program. Results: Most oral health knowledge was obtained from dental clinics (45.8%) and mass media and books (40.0%). Many respondents reported that the main purpose of oral hygiene was prevention of periodontal diseases. The highest number of respondents reported that fluoridated tooth paste was the best for fluoride effects on teeth. 56.7% of the respondents said that they visited periodically dental clinics for dental caries prevention. The respondents did not have much knowledge about the importance of fluoride in dental caries. Many respondents did not know that the plaque is the main cause of periodontal diseases. Conclusion: Effective oral health education program should be prepared for the elementary school teachers because their knowledge levels of oral health is not sufficient for students.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual state of beverage consumption, oral health concern, and oral health behavior among high school students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The results of the study showed that the subjects with the highest academic achievement score of 3.46(${\pm}0.43$) were 3.23(${\pm}0.59$), which was statistically significant(F=3.601, p<0.05). Oral health behaviors were 3.16 points(${\pm}0.40$) when the academic performance was 'low', which was significantly different from those of 'high' and 'middle' students(F=4.329, p<0.05). Further research is needed to clarify various related factors related to future drink ingestion and oral health behavior, and it is thought that it is necessary to continue to promote the relationship between beverage and oral health through the results of this study.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-perception of halitosis on oral health behaviors of college students according to whether they worked in a non-service or service-related job. Methods: A self-reporting questionnaire of 150 university students working in service jobs and 150 university students working in non-service jobs in the metropolitan area was conducted from 26th April to 5th May 2018. The survey tool consisted of 3 general topic areas. There were 5 questions on oral health awareness behavior, 3 questions related to their self-perception of halitosis, and 8 questions on their oral health care practice. All were measured on the Likert 5-point scale. The frequency of their oral health behaviors and their self-perception of halitosis were analyzed according to the subjects' occupation. Pearson's correlation analysis and a linear regression analysis were conducted to confirm the influence of the two. The significance level for the statistical significance test was set to α = 0.05 (two-tailed). Results: In both the service and non-service groups, a coated tongue and food debris were found to influence halitosis(x2=10.95, p=0.027). According to the t-test, taking into account the self-perception of halitosis and oral health behaviors, both were higher in those that had a service job. Self-perception of halitosis and oral health behaviors were found to have a negative correlation(γ=-0.11, p<0.05). As the self-perception of halitosis increased, oral health care practices also increased(Beta=-0.185, p=0.020). Conclusions: Systematic interventions such as oral health programs and health promotion are needed to improve the oral health of service workers.
The purpose of this study was to examine pervasive trends in oral cancer in different countries in an effort to discuss what to do to prevent cancer and drop a death rate. The materials of the study were selected from among articles of oral cancer by searching risk factor and epidemiology at a website (www.oraloncology.com). As a result of analyzing the selected literature, it's found that in our country, the percentage of oral cancer in total cancer dropped but the number of oral cancer patients was on the rise every year. In foreign countries, the number of oral cancer patients was on the increase as well, whereas the lethality dropped. In terms of demographic characteristics, the incidence rate of oral cancer was higher among men than women overall. The incidence rate of oral cancer was larger among older people. The major causes of oral cancer were smoking and drinking. To reduce the incidence rate of oral cancer, every possible institutional, administrative and legal measure should be taken to ensure of anti-smoking policies, and publicity of moderation in and abstinence from drinking should be reinforced. The additional causes of oral cancer were demographic characteristics by country and region. The incidence of oral cancer was under the influence of that was affected when the level of personal economy and education was low. Therefore it's important to redress social imbalance within a country and among countries to remove socioeconomic divide. As the oral cancer patients has increased every year, the incidence rate of it should accurately be grasped, and sustained research efforts should be made in consideration of demographic characteristics. Early diagnosis, public oral health education and preventive policies are all required to decrease the incidence rate of oral cancer.
The aim of the study was to investigate the affecting factors on National Health Insurance coverage dental scaling experience. The self-reported survey for the adults living in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Incheon had been progressed from February 10, 2014, to February 28, 2014, after receiving informed consents. And the 238 survey results had been analysed as the data of this study. The data analysis such as frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2$-test, and multi-logistic regression (p<0.05) for all collected survey data had been processed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 20.0. According to multiple logistic regression analysis, regular dental check-up (odds ratio [OR], 2.63; confidence interval [CI], 1.05~6.59) and dental scaling experience (OR, 3.06; CI, 1.09~8.54), monthly income (OR, 3.55; CI, 1.01~12.56) were the factors having statistically significant influence. Therefore, in order to increase of National health insurance dental scaling experience, it is necessary to increase awareness of the new dental scaling system through the promotion and oral health education about national health insurance dental scaling, and to emphasize the importance of dental Scaling by regular dental check-up.

To investigate knowledge and attitude of parents about early childhood caries and dental caries prevention, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 247 parents of children who had oral screening experience among 3 to 5 years old children in 3 kindergartens in Jeonju city. A total of 220 completed questionnaires were selected for final analysis. The overall perception of the parents about oral health of the children was 82.3 points (10.7 / 13) in terms of 100 points. There were statistically significant correlations between maternal age (p = 0.027), maternal education level (p = 0.002), household monthly income (p = 0.000) and maternal oral health knowledge level. The main source of oral health information was 'dentist and dental hygienist'(83.6%) followed by 'Web search'(22.3%). Compared with the previous studies, the level of knowledge of parents about oral health of the children was improved. However, in order to raise awareness of the parents about the poorly assessed items in this study, it is necessary to increase the participation rate by advertising the national dental screening program for infants and children and make efforts to improve the quality of oral health education in screening.

The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in the prevalence of dental caries and demand for dental caries treatment among children under 14 years old using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data. The analysis was conducted using treatment records from a random sample of approximately 1 million pediatric patients from a population that included all children and adolescents for each year from 2011 to 2020. In this study, the number of children diagnosed with K02 dental caries and the number of children receiving dental caries treatment across all ages have increased. However, the number of children aged 10 to 14 who received pulp treatment or extraction has decreased. In the National Survey of Children's Oral Health, the decay-missing-filled teeth index for 5- and 12-year-olds has stagnated or increased slightly, but the percentage of the population with active dental caries has decreased. Accessibility and local environments for dental caries treatment have generally improved compared to the past, but preventive dental care has stagnated over the past decade. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health programs implemented in Korea to promote and prevent dental caries among children.
