Method : From January 1st 2009 to September 31th 2009, 10 patient were divided into 2 groups. One group was taken Local Acupoints, and the other group was taken Distal Acupoints. To check pain and treatment satisfaction, visual analog scale(VAS) and five-point likert scale were used before and after treatment. Result : Both acupuncture theraphy showed improvement in VAS and five-point likert scale. And Local Acupoints group showed more effective than Distal Acupoints group on five-point likert scale. Conclusion : This Study suggests that Acupuncture on Local Acupoints and Distal Acupoints can be applicable to improve symptom in Patients with Whiplash Injury.

  • Objectives : This study was investigated to find out psychological characteristics of headache patients after traffic accident(TA). also It was identified headache after TA as predictor of posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD). Methods : Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI) was administered to 26 TA patients, We divided them into four groups according to headache and sex and headache duration. Results : 3-1 profile was found by total mean of T score of each MMPI scale in all patients. 3-4 profile was found in headache group, 1-3 profile was found in female Group, female to have headache group. 3-1 profile was found in headache to continue more than 7 days. Conclusions : Female group, female to have a headache group, headache to continue more 7 days group showed 1-3/3-1 profile. it was similar to PTSD profile. The results indicate that in the above three groups, headache was predictor of PTSD and they must be treated more carefully.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate into the effects of physical therapy intervention with local vibration on pain, ROM (range of motion) and psychological status in multiple trauma patients caused by traffic accident. Methods: A patient with multiple trauma were recruited. Before treatment, he was evaluated using numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), Korean-version impact of event scale-revised (IES-R-K), Beck Depression inventory (BDI), passive and active range of motion, and were reevaluated after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. Results: As a result of comparing the participant before and after the experiment, the score of the IES-R-K and BDI decreased. And the passive and active ROM increased. Conclusion: According to the results above, physical intervention with local vibration by Blackroll Releazer can help improve pain, physical function and psychological status. Also, physical intervention with Blackroll's Releazer technique was able to select interventions depending on the patient's conditional and the desired goal.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment with Sacro-Occipital Technique block on musculoskeletal pain caused by traffic accident by analysis of the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Neck Disability Index(NDI), Pain Disability Index(PDI), Oswestry Low back Pain Disability Index(ODI) and Short Form - McGill Pain Qusetionnaire (SF-MPQ). Methods : This study carried out on 18 patients who have received hospital treatment in Daejeon Univ. Dun-San Oriental Hospital. Control group got acupunture-therapy, herbal medication, physical therapy and Experimental group got all the therapies and treatment with Sacro-Occipital Technique block. We measured VAS, NDI, PDI, ODI and SF-MPQ on 1st day and 7 days later. Results : After being treated by our methods, Both group were improved in VAS, NDI, PDI, ODI, and SF-MPQ. Especially, Experimental group was significantly meaningful improved in VAS, PDI, and ODI. Control group was significantly meaningful improved in VAS and SF-MPQ. But, differences between control and experimental group were nonsignificant. Conclusions : The results suggest that treatment with Sacro-Occipital Technique block is not significantly meaningful but gives a positive impact on musculoskeletal pain caused by traffic accident. But further long term study in a large scale is needed.

Patienst was treated with the electro-acupuncture at Right eye paralytic lateral rectus muscle lesions. The case was enforced 10 minutes using the PG-306 electro-acupuncture and applyed the low consequence wave of 1-8Hz. The improvement of the strabismus was observed. Results During ten weeks of treatment, patient's strabismus and diplopia were improved. Conclusions In this case, Electro-acupuncture on strabismus and diplopia of traffic accident induced abducens nerve paralysis was effective. The effectivity is depended on the time stimulation is performed.

Methods : This study carried out on 20 patients who have received hospital treatment in Daejeon Univ. cheonan Oriental Hospital. Non-chuna group got acupunture-therapy, herbal medication, physical therapy and Chuna group got chuna treatment besides. We measured Heart Rate Variability(HRV) and Visual Analog Scale(VAS) on 2nd, 4th day. Results : After being treated by our methods, Chuna Group showed the inclination to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve. In chuna group, an autonomic nerve activity showed the inclination to increase. But there were no significant difference between both groups. Chuna group's VAS were significantly decreased(p=0.043). Conclusions : The results suggest that Chuna treatment help traffic accident patients in early stage to reduce pain. Refer to autonomic nerve system, chuna treatment seem to do positive effect but Further long tenn study in a large scale is needed.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is finding tendencies of diagnosis and treatment of the traffic accidental patients. Methods : We reviewed and analyzed all theses published by Korean research institution. And these theses were classified by year, field of study, reviewed by focusing on diagnosis and evaluation, treatment type. Results : 1. 72 articles were published since 1993. 2. Classified by the major field of study, the korean academy of oriental rehabilitation medicine accounted for 33 papers. 3. 7-Zone-Diagnostic system and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory were studied mostly. 4. To add pharmacopuncture or chuna treatments are effective. 5. Traffic accidental patients get satisfaction about Oriental medicine therapy but methods of medical treatment are restrictively. Conclusions : Oriental medicine treatment is the effective way to cure traffic accidental sequela, but we need further studies.
