Bright band detection using X-band polarimetric radar (X-밴드 이중편파 레이더에 의한 밝은 띠 탐지)

  • This research detects the features of the bright band (BB) through analysis of the vertical profile of range height indicator (RHI) and the slant range beam profile of plane position indicator (PPI) of the polarimetric radar measurements-horizontal reflectivity (ZH), differential reflectivity (ZDR), and cross-correlation coefficient (ρHV). As a result of the analysis, it is possible to clearly detect the bright band using the polarimetric radar measurements, and it is confirmed that the result is consistent by double searching for the BB using the RHI and PPI scan data at the same time. Based on these results, the accuracy of QPE (quantification of precipitation estimation) can be improved by applying the BB search method by the PPI slant range in this research to large rainfall radars that only scan PPI volumes in the field without RHI observations.

  • 한반도와 그 주변 지역에 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공하기 위해 통신방송위성(CBS: Communications and Broadcastings Satellite) 탑재체의 Ku 대역 안테나가 개발되었다. Ku 대역 안테나는 성능 요구 조건을 만족하도록 설계 되었으며 일련의 시험을 통해 성능 검증이 이루어졌다. 일련의 시험은 초기 성능 시험(IFPT: Initial Functional Performance Test), 환경 시험, 최종 성능 시험(FFPT: Final Functional Performance Test)으로 구성되며 이를 통해 반사 손실, EOC(Edge Of Coverage) 이득, 사이드로브 레벨, 교차 편파 분리도등의 전기적 성능과 발사 및 우주 환경에서 강건함이 확인되었다.

An Experimental Study on Shaping Flat-Topped Element Patterns of a Multi-layered Disk Array Structure Excited by Cross-Dipole Elements (교차 다이폴 소자 여기에 의한 다층 원형 도체 배열 구조의 구형 빔 패턴 형성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this paper, a multi-layered metallic disk array structure(MDAS) excited by cross-dipole elements was proposed for efficiently shaping of flat-topped element patterns(FTEP) with circular polarization. The MDAS excited by cross-dipole elements has advantages to decrease in volume and weight of an overall array antenna and so, it is appropriate for the FTEP applications of a ralativlely low frequency band. In order to verify the effectness of this structure, the MDAS breadboard operated at X-band(7.9 ∼ 8.4 GHz) was fabricated, and its design parameters were experimentally optimized on the basis of the previous design experience. The experimental results were shown that the MDAS could shape good FTEPs of ${\pm}$20$^{\circ}$beam width at least within a 6.1 % frequency band.

Characteristics of Sequentially-Rotated Array Antenna by Varying Sequential Array Parameter (배열 정수 변화에 의한 순차 회전 배열 안테나의 특성)

  • In the sequentially rotated array antennas, the characteristics of antenna gain, axial ratio and cross polarization have been analyzed with a varying of sequential array constant(number of array element, figure of rotation) respectively. Where the antenna element of array is a probe feeding, LHCP truncated microstrip antenna whose resonant frequency is in 11.85GHz. The simulation results of 23 SRA antennas((M=2, 3, 4, 6, 8), $(1\leqP\leqM)$) has shown as follows. The widest 3dB bandwidth of axial ratio appears at P=2 which is in-dependant of M, the highest antenna gain appears when a sequential array constant has a pair of (2, 1), (3, 2), (4, 1), (6, 3), (8, 1) respectively. Specially, all of the SRA antenna appear very poor characteristics in case of M=P. Therefore the SRA antenna has to be designed as selecting a optimal sequential array constant among a lot of simulation data.

Analysis and Design of a Wideband Corrugated Conical Horn Antenna Based on Mode Matching Converter (모드정합 컨버터에 기반한 광대역 원뿔형 주름 혼안테나 설계 및 분석)

  • In this paper, the design methodology of a corrugated conical horn antenna is proposed to be obtain wide-band properties over the full range of frequencies in the Ku-band. In order to improve the properties of the corrugated conical horn antenna, such as its gain, VSWR, co-polarization to cross-polarization ratio and wide-bandwidth, two types of mode matching converters are implemented within it. One is located at the end of the circular waveguide, while the other is positioned in front of the horn-flare section. The properties of the antenna are analyzed and compared according to the position of the proposed converters through simulations. In the comparison of the antenna performance in the case where the VSWR, co-polarization to cross-polarization ratio and antenna gain over the Ku band of 12-18 GHz are less than 2, greater than 30dB and 20dB respectively, the former antenna exhibits greater stability and a wider frequency band than the latter from the viewpoint of transmitting and receiving signals simultaneously. Therefore, considering the gain, VSWR, radiation pattern and bandwidth, the horn antenna structure in which the mode matching converter is implemented inside the circular waveguide has better performance than the other.

  • In this paper, we are designed and fabricated circular polarization microstrip patch antenna of 5[GH]z bandwidth for the wireless LAN and the ISM. We are proposed new structure that removed the section which intersected at a right angle and were composed to four separated slots. The antenna of proposed structure could solve parasitic elements from intersected in a right angle and weak coupling efficiency from asymmetry between feed line and a slot. The proposed cross slots antenna is easily impedance matching and increased impedance bandwidth. Also this is increased efficiency and a bandwidth of antenna and reduce back lobe of radiation pattern. We designed 2${\times}$2 array antenna of 5[GHz] band. It took impedance bandwidth 280[MHz](VSWR < 1.5) and gam 12.5[dBi]

  • In this study, we investigate the inter cell interference of LMDS(Local multipoint Distribution Service) system cell in LMDS system design process. There are several interference sources in LMDS system but we consider co-channel adjacent interference, cross-polarization interference, tx/rx interworking interference as three major factors. As the summation of each interference, C/N is keep 19 dB in 2km range but decreased gradually over 2km. Based on theoretical results, we process the experimental test and get results that C/I=20 dB have to be maintained to transmit the data successfully under rain fall attenuation condition. This experiential results are similar to the theoretical analysis results we examined.

  • In this paper, cross-aperture coupled microstrip circular polarization antenna is proposed for 5.8 GHz WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). A single antenna consists of square patch and slots are located in series feed line with $\lambda_g$/4 phase different which make current direction maximum and minimum repeatedly to generate RHCP(Right Handed Circularly Polarization). We are proposed new structure that removed the section which intersected at a right angle and were composed to four separated slots. The proposed cross slots reduce back lobe of radiation pattern and improve antenna gain. Impedance bandwidth of the manufactured $2\times2$ array antenna is from 5.67 to 5.95 GHz and the maximum radiation gain is 10.59 dBi.

  • In case of mechanical down tilting, a horizontal pattern is distorted and beam width widens whenincreasing tilt angle, which causes an expansion of hand off region and burden base station equipment. In contrast, electrical down tilting has advantage that horizontal HPBW is kept constant with down tilting. In this paper, based on a phased array technology, dual polarized base station antenna with electrical down tilting was developed at 800MHz band. The antenna has down tilting range of 0$^{\circ}$ to 14$^{\circ}$, and 15㏈i gain. We use stacked microstrip patch as a radiated element and apply balanced feed technique to improve isolation between ports and discrimination of cross polarization. The effect of electrical down tilting was verified by field test.

  • 이중편파 레이더는 수평 수직반사도($Z_H{\cdot}Z_V$), 차등반사도($Z_{DR}$), 교차상관계수(${\rho}_{HV}$), 차등위상차(${\Phi}_{DP}$) 등 다양한 변수 산출을 통하여 대기 수상체 구분, 우적분포에 영향이 적은 강우량 추정, 밝은 띠(BB, Bright Band)의 탐지 등이 가능하게 됨으로써 수문기상 및 재해관리 분야에 활용성이 점점 더 커지고 있다. 본 연구는 RHI, PPI에서 생산된 레이더 변수를 이용하여 BB를 탐지하고 그 특성을 평가하였다. BB는 레이더를 이용하여 상층대기를 관측할 때 수직단면에서 강수입자가 눈에서 비로 변하는 구간에서 과대하게 높은 반사도가 나타나는 층을 말한다. BB에서는 QPE가 과대 추정되기 때문에, BB의 특성 파악은 레이더의 관측전략 수립과 QPE 보정에 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 RHI에 의한 $Z_H$의 연직단면분석, RHI와 PPI의 고도각 경사거리(slant range) 빔의 ${\rho}_{HV}$, $Z_{DR}$, $Z_H$에 의한 분석을 통하여 BB의 상단부($BB_{TOP}$), 최정점($BB_{PEAK}$) 및 하단부($BB_{BOTTOM}$)의 고도를 상호 비교 평가하였다. 분석 자료는 KICT X-밴드 레이더에 의한 관측한 2015년 10월 21일의 층상운에 의한 강우를 이용하였다. RHI에 의한 $Z_H$의 연직단면 분석결과 $BB_{top}$, $BB_{bottom}$$BB_{peak}$는 KICT 레이더 고도(MSL : 40m)를 기준으로 각각 3.26Km, 2.3Km($BB_{width}$: 0.96km) 및 2.7Km로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 다른 2가지 분석방법에서도 유사하게 나타나고 있으며, 이는 BB분석을 위해 다양한 변수를 통한 신뢰성 있는 BB의 특성을 파악할 수 있는 기반을 제공한다.
