  • One's Clothing Satisfaction, has a great influence on his role behavior in a society. Especially, as for the teacher's and the professors whose role is teaching, it can not be too emphaszed. Above all, high school girls and college women are the most likely to be influenced by their teachers' clothing behavior, to whom they pay their respect in every way. From this point of view, this study was aimed at explaining, the correlation between the teachers/professors' clothing behaviors and the learning efficiency. On clothing behaviors assessed 30 items related with the learning efficiency, selected from the instruments of preceding studies, and modified by the factors dealing with modesty, color, and design. The questionnaires were composed of two major categories: those for students and for teachers/progessors. The subjects of this study were included students and teachers/professors of high school and universities in Seoul. The data were analyzed statically by mean, standard Deviation, and F-test. The results of this study were summerized as follows; 1. The clothing behaviors of the teachers/professors influenced on the learning efficiency. Namely teachers' clothing satisfaction is in direct proportion to them teaching efficiency and students' learning efficiency. 2. Among the clothing behavior variables, modesty had a great influence on the learning efficiency, especially as for that of teachers more than professors. 3. The influence of the teachers'/professors' clothing behaviors on the learning efficiency showed no significance between high school girls and college women, but some significance between the grades of collegians. 4. As for the teachers'/professors' clothing behavior, male teachers/professors gave priority to design and female teachers/professors to modesty, color showed no significance between them irrespective of age. 5. As for the clothing behavior variabels, both the teachers/professors and the students showed some significance. In class the teachers/professors highly responded to their own clothing behaviors than the students. 6. According to priority the most favorable clothing colors for male teachers/professors are navy blue, gray, indigo blue, and black, and the most disgusting ones red, mud yellow, violet, pink, and green. The most favorable clothing colors for female teachers/professors are beign, white, pale yellow, and black, and the most disgusting ones red, mud yellow, and yellow and yellow according to priority. It is that teachers/professors should wear modestly and in color harmony to invite the desirable students' will to study. Teachers'/professors' colorful appearance and heavy toilet bring about a drop in the students' will to study.

  • The premise of the study is that teacher communities or teacher interest groups are one of the representative examples of Communities of Practice (CoP) formed by teachers who engage in the process of collective learning regarding science teaching. Based on the theory of CoP, we investigated and interpreted the process of identity development of six science teachers who have been actively involved in teacher communities. We conducted 2-3 individual interviews with the teachers in order to explore their narratives and personal experiences of being involved in the communities over the years. Results indicated that a teacher community is a place where the teachers not only generated and shared repertories of ideas, documents on teaching and learning, or routines (i.e. practices), but also formulated a set of relationships through social participation. Teacher communities actively provide the teachers a sense of joint enterprise and identity, and where the teachers have an opportunity to develop themselves personally and professionally as science teachers playing major roles in their communities.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out whether pre-service biology teachers' biological meanings of competition and adaptation is the same as everyday meanings to understand natural selection and evolution. Fifty three pre-service biology teachers answered written tests and thirteen of them were interviewed. The tests on general meanings on competition and adaptation, tests on biological meanings on competition and adaptation and tests on natural selection were administered. Questions on semi-structured interviews were composed of only biological meanings about competition and adaptation. Analyzing data through four steps, pre-service biological teachers' general meanings on competition and adaptation were compared with the definitions of Korean dictionary and compared with biological definitions. Pre-service teachers' alternative conceptions about biological competition and adaptation were classified and the alternative conceptual types were checked when explaining natural selection and evolution. They realized competition is battle for intention or purpose like everyday meaning of competition. However, they didn't realize adaptation happen in the population level. They thought that adaptation, like in everyday life meaning, is getting suitable to environment for survival on an individual level. By relating adaptation to evolution, they thought that long-lasting adaptation become evolution. This study has significance with respect to suggesting the alternative concepts of competition and adaptation based on effective evolution teaching from constructivism viewpoint and highlighting the importance of the concepts of biological competition and adaptation, which have been concerned rarely for a long time.

  • We may have an incorrect view of Korea and the world by misunderstanding them with a number of geographic misconceptions. Such misconceptions constructed socially tend to perpetuate through reproducing and learning repeatedly from one generation to the next. 'Daegu city is in the intermontane basin.' It is also identified that this geographic misconception had constructed (made) by two Japanese geographers (Tamura, 1933; Tada, 1940) in the Japanese colonial period, and have been reproduced and diffused by many Korean geographers (professors and teachers) as well as journalists in the post-colonial days. In terms of the definition of an intermontane basin in the Encyclopedia of Geomorphology published by the International Association of Geomorphologists, Daegu seems not to be a basin city but to be a plain city, since the central plain of Daegu is surrounded by higher terrain like mountains and hills only on the north and south directions of all sides, and also it is well developed thanks to its location where the downstream of the Geumhogang river flows from east to west. This paper hopes that the landform recognition as 'Daegu intermontane basin city' should be corrected as soon as possible, and also many geographic misconceptions will be studied actively for an accurate understanding of Korea and the world.

  • The purpose of this study is to satisfy students in adolescent trends of school uniforms and to provide them with useful material with matching current fashions by analyzing the attitude of students toward uniform transformation in female highschool students and investigating factors influencing on behaviors of uniform transformation. The subjects of this study are 30 students in Daegu with the basic ways of investigating such as depth interview and survey. The results are as follows; First, students agree to wearing school uniforms. As the main reason for wearing school uniforms, students put emphasis on peer pressure. It is also analyzed that the figure of students' body have some influence on the attitude of students toward wearing uniform while students' appearance have no influence on the attitude of students toward wearing uniform. Second, students showed high satisfaction in school uniforms. While students are satisfied with design and color of school uniform, they are not satisfied with practicality, economic efficiency and the quality of textile. Third, the study shows most students have experience of uniform transformation as a result of depth interview about actual condition of uniform transformation. Whereas students usually wear the jacket with its width and length shortened, they tend to lengthen skirt and unstitch pleat of skirt. Fourth, there are many reasons for uniform transformation as a result of depth interview with students. Transformation for satisfying aesthetic desire tops the list, followed by transformation for matching, transformation for peer pressure. As shown by the results above, every school needs to make various efforts to satisfy students, teachers and parents by considering and using students' opinion in order to choose the better school uniforms. In addition, the study related to school uniform transformation need to have more various investigating ways to acquire more authentic results such as expanding the subjects to not only students but also teachers and parents and in-depth comparison between subjects.

  • This study examined the research trends of sustainable development education in the family life area, focusing on papers published in journals specialized in the Practical Arts (Technology & Home Economics) subject from 1989 to 2018. The papers from three journals were selected based on the titles, abstracts, and keywords for their contents related to sustainable development education. The results were analyzed by frequency analysis and cross-tabulation. Sustainable development education has surged since the mid-2000s when national interest on this topic sharply increased. Rather than focusing on particular content areas in home economics, most research was conducted through an integrated approach. More than half of the studies were conducted in experimental studies, with the largest number of studies involving elementary school students. Of the three components of ESD, research on society was most frequently conducted, followed by the environmental area. The contents of the home economics curriculum and the details of sustainable development were related. More related research should be conducted so that various sustainable development education can improve students' practical problem-solving ability through Practical Arts (Technology & Home Economics) curriculum.

  • The purpose of the this study is to analyze consulting demands in vocational education and training (VET) high schools participating the apprenticeship system in Korea. The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, there are 9 sections of consulting that teachers in charge of apprenticeship program in VET high schools demanded. Especially, the demands for the consulting that related with 'student evaluation', 'apprenticeship program development and organization planning of schools' curriculum', 'selection and management of enterprises', 'organization of apprentices classes and student management', 'teaching & learning activities and textbook development' were relatively high. Secondly, there were differences in demands of consulting by VET high schools' current management status. By the type of organization, demands for consulting of both 'training center in main school' of organization and 'training center in common' of organization were higher than 'independent school' of organization generally. By the type of apprenticeship program hours, demands for consulting of both 'above 1400 hours' and '1200 ~ 1400 hours' were higher than 'less than 1200 hours' generally. By the type of OJT operation, demands for consulting of 'a type of OJT that is operated in long term(more than 2 weeks)' were higher than 'a type of OJT that is operated weekly' generally. As a result from above, there are some pre-requisites for the stable operations of VET high schools. 1) The apprenticeship program shall be developed not to interrupt school's regular curriculum. 2) For the smooth management between apprenticeship program and school curriculum, the academic calender has to be established so as the type of OJT operation. 3) The cooperation among the participating schools in part of the organization is unavoidable.

  • In this study, we compared 8th graders' macroscopic and microscopic conceptions related to the properties of substances. A test for the basic particle concept and a test for the macroscopic and microscopic concepts of melting point, solubility, and density were developed and administered to 371 students. Their responses were classified into 4 categories on the bases of their understanding of the macroscopic and microscopic concepts. The proportions and characteristics of each category were also analyzed. The analyses of the results revealed that the students who understood the macroscopic concepts had various misconceptions at the microscopic level. Many students had difficulty in understanding not only microscopic concepts but macroscopic concepts. The microscopic responses of the students who did not understand the macroscopic concepts hardly corresponded with their macroscopic level responses. The students who responded correctly to the test for the basic particle concept also had difficulty in understanding the concept of the properties of substances. When they understood the macroscopic concepts, the proportions of the students who understood the microscopic concepts were high. On the bases of the results, educational implications for effective teaching and learning of concepts related to the properties of substances and for improving the future national curricular are discussed.

  • School facilities are one of the important educational requirements, and it is necessary to maintain safe and sustainable for the ongoing educational environment. For this reason, educational government department have an effort to produce school facilities that have become safe, comfort, convenient and high-quality. There are many methods to improve existing buildings and build new schools by energy efficient technology. Even though educational environment of school facilities are improved by the efforts, the energy consumption has a huge increase. Energy is a major budget item for schools. The accurate estimation of energy cost is critical for effective budgeting and financing for the school facility maintenance. Accurate energy cost estimation also allow for a anticipatable LCC (Life Cycle Cost) of new school facilities. In this study, in order to produce a basic information about the present energy usage status in domestic school facilities, energy usage quantity is regionally analysed according to physical characteristics of elementary, middle, and high school facilities. Those results will give a chance to see deeply the pros and cons of energy usage each regional school facilities.
