Development and Implementation of Teaching-Learning Plan for 'Residence and Living Environment' of Home Economics applied with Portfolio Assessment (포트폴리오 평가를 적용한 가정과 주생활 교수.학습 과정안 개발 및 실행 -'주거와 거주환경' 단원을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to develope and implement a teaching learning process plan applied with portfolio assessment for 'housing and residential environment' section of Technology Home Economics in a middle school. The teaching learning process plan consisting of 8-session lessons had been developed and implemented according to the ADDIE model mixed with 6 portfolio-development stages. In the development stage, 19 activity materials(5 reading texts, 6 individual and 2 group activity sheets, and 3 subject activity sheets) and 27 teaching learning materials(8 sets of pictures & photos and 19 moving pictures) were developed for the 8-session lessons. The plans applied to 2 classes 74 students in the third grade of K middle school in Gyeonggi-do during May 16th-17th of June, 2011. The results from survey and portfolio showed that the 8-session lessons had overall achieved the general goal of the teaching learning process plan applied with portfolio assessment, which was to stimulate students in the class through working with portfolio elements of activity materials. The students evaluated the whole process of 8 lessons were adequate and helpful. Students also reported they highly accomplished the goal of each lesson and actively participated in the lesson. The 3 subject activity sheets as well as other materials in the portfolio were excellently done with the average of over 90% points. These results supported that a teaching learning process plan applied with portfolio assessment was a combined lesson with evaluation and also an alternative to qualitative evaluation over the whole units. This plan might apply to other parts of housing as well as various other areas.

Investigation of Teachers' Awareness of Flipped Classroom to Explore its Educational Feasibility (거꾸로 교실(Flipped Classroom)의 교육적 활용가능성 탐색을 위한 교사 인식 조사)

  • Although Flipped Classroom(FC) which has recently attracted attention of educational field, showed its various educational effects such as learning academic achievement, attitude, collaborative learning and self-regulated learning. other studies also showed a number of significant problems and challenges in practically implementing. Thus, this study aims to investigate in-service and pre-service teachers awareness of FC in order to explore its educational feasibility for successfully adopting it to classrooms through the alternative solutions to its limitations. To achieve this goal, we firstly conducted literature review on teaching and learning models and guidelines to draw educational prerequisites and then analyzed needs of 156 pre-service teachers and 42 in-service teachers. According to survey results, 80% of teachers are willing to apply FC to their classes and hope to be offered with pre-learning activity materials and guidelines. They consider junior high school students and college students as appropriate learners, social science, science, Korean, and English as suitable subjects, and video content as optimal materials for pre-learning activities.

  • Considering teaching methods for computer education is a must for effectively instructing students of knowledge and skills on computers. In this paper, we adopts STAD Cooperative Learning method, among many others, in order to reduce any burden teachers and learners may have. As a result, it finds out that practical training based on STAD Cooperative Learning is very effective in enhancing students' abilities for ICT data collection and manipulation. The teaching model driven out as a result of this study, will be a good example for teaching models in many computer-related departments. In the future, more studies on teaching models will have to take place for more effective teaching of computer courses.

  • The main goals of learning geometry include developing spatial ability and concepts on geometric objects based on understanding the attributes and relationships of them. While the instructions on geometric objects follow the concept development models, the ones on spatial ability are designed from the perspective of geometric transformation. However, there is a need for instructional materials to emphasizing the relationships among geometric concepts. This study hypothesizes that spatial ability stems from the intuitive understanding of geometric objects and the relational understanding on concepts, and it considers the isoperimetric problems as instructional materials to foster spatial ability.

  • Recently, the emphasis on education of informatics gifted elementary students is to make creative leader in knowledge-based society. It need the high mental faculties and problem solving ability to solve many problem situations for students. In this paper, we developed App Inventor programming education plan. We taught this plan to gifted elementary students and observed the effects of their problem solving ability, self-efficacy and achievement of programing process. In order to achieve the research goals, we designed the appropriate App Inventor programming plan for gifted elementary students and we changed the Learning Model of Renzulli's three step for gifted students to achieve this research goals. Designed learning program was utilized by twenty informatics gifted elementary students for 15 times during five weeks period. In conclusion, we confirmed that App Inventor programming education for gifted elementary students affected the problem solving ability, self-efficacy and achievement of programing process positively.

Difficulties Experienced by Preservice Science Teachers in Studying the Theory of Science Education for Teacher Selection Test (예비 과학교사들이 임용시험의 과학교육학 내용 학습에서 겪는 어려움)

  • In this study, the difficulties experienced by secondary preservice science teachers in studying the theory of science education for teacher selection test were studied. At first, questions of the internet cafe for preparing the teacher selection test from January 2008 to June 2009 were analyzed in terms of content area. A survey was also administered to 39 preservice science teachers who took the teacher selection test. The rubric used in this study was developed by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation and the Korean Association for Science Education. As a result, the most frequent question areas were 'philosophy and history of science' and 'theories and models of teaching and learning science'. In the survey with the preservice science teachers, the most difficult content area was the philosophy of science. The application of teaching and learning model was also one of the most difficult areas. Based on these results, educational implications were discussed.

  • The biggest strength of the Internet is to enable to access information without any limitation of time and space. As the Internet and IT technologies have been developed, various kinds of teaching ways in education field such as remote lectures, video lectures, and CAI(Computer Adapted Instruction) have emerged. In terms of education, evaluation can be a basic foundation to help teach students in the next learning stage according to each student's level. In addition, it is able to give the information of students'abilities and provides proper learning programs to teach students on a case-by-case basis. The purpose of the paper is to establish evaluation system on the WWW(World Wide Web) that can reflect learning activities part of students in their evaluation scores based on the two important learning theories, Behaviorism and constructivism, which are mainly used in evaluation procedures to judge learning ability of students. This system will give information about learners, and analyze the learning interest of learners. The proposed system enables teachers to evaluate learning ability of students through various kinds of information of learners, and to execute level-based education.

  • Intelligent Tutoring System(ITS), which offers individualized learning environment that consider many learners' variable, is realized by the effective alternative to take the place of domain expert. Accordingly, research on Learning Companion System(LC) is currently noticing. However, to develop LCS which applies effective interaction, it is necessary to combine several LCs, and personalized knowledge base have to be made first. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the 'Knowledge Base Object Medel', which is based on connectionist' in cognition structure, represents learner's knowledge to self-learnig object, and grows adaptive object by proprietor, verify the validity. This model lays the groundwork for design of personalized knowledge base, offers clue to development of adaptive ITS using knowledge base object.

  • This study is based on education reforms related to strengthening information education in curriculums. This study develops and presents ' General Economics'Model Utilizing ICT(Information Communication & Technology) in Home Economics'which could be used as a concrete guidance and direction in teaching and learning Economics education in schools. To do so, this study reviews the necessity of adopting ICT in Home Economics instructional activities and it also reviews and analyzes previous studies of how ICT contribute to instructional activities. Such analysis was used as a theoretical basis for the Instructional Model. The Tool of ICT is a useful instructional strategy because it allows the learners'self-lead learning and Performance Assessment. Therefore the 'General Instructional Model Utilizing ICT'interprets the role of ICT tools to adequate class activities in each step of instruction which includes the conventional steps of introduction. development review and evaluation. It also develops and presents Lesson Plan that can be adopted in school education and thereby shows the possibility of practical application of the theory. This study has limits in that the Instructional Model and Lesson Plan are theoretical in nature. Therefore, in future studies it is desirable to critically review the Instructional Model an Lesson Plan and prove their applicability in real classes and the real learning effects.

A Study on the Development of Larchiveum Strategies and an Instructional Model for School Libraries (학교도서관 라키비움 전략 및 교육모형 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop educational strategies and models by applying future-oriented elements of libraries, which are transitioning into integrated spaces through collaboration with archives and museums, into school library education. This study focuses on the changes where libraries expand their spaces and roles in response to the trends of a pluralistic society. The term 'Larchiveum' was established to represent a knowledge and culture complex space. The concepts and functions of this term were identified, and the characteristics of materials collected and managed by archives, museums, and art galleries, as well as domestic and international educational information services, were analyzed to explore ways to integrate them into school library education. Based on the ASSURE instructional design model, which emphasizes the effective selection and use of teaching and learning media, this study developed Larchiveum strategies, including 'Inquiry-based Information Utilization,' 'Curriculum Integration and Convergence,' 'Collaboration, Sharing, and Dissemination,' and 'Digital Archive,' and structured the educational content accordingly. The procedures and steps were refined through the evaluation and feedback of field experts, leading to the development of a collaborative educational model that incorporates Larchiveum strategies, resources, and inquiry-based instruction.
