The results of the analysis of the study are as follows. First, the self-knowledge of teacher librarians was a teacher with leadership, who led students and teachers to reading education and information literacy instruction. Second, the self-knowledge of teacher librarians was most concretely formed in the process of pre-service teacher training, and the reflection on the teacher's image was taking place in the school field. Third, the knowledge of the instructional knowledge for library-based instruction was focused on library collaborative instruction, and various teaching methods were being learned and applied in school field. Fourth, there was a difference in the instructional knowledge of library-based instruction among teacher librarians. Through this study, it is suggested that the teacher training course and educational practicum activities should be changed by reflecting the contents of the actual school field, and the analysis of library-based instruction should be continued.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the students' and teachers' perception about the roles and qualifications of teacher librarians. For this purpose, data were collected through survey from students and teachers at secondary schools and the data were analyzed by semantic network analysis. The results of the research are as follows: First, students usually perceived the role of teacher librarians as 'library management', and teachers did as 'reading education'. Second, among the roles of teacher librarians, it was confirmed that students' and teachers' perceptions of 'information literacy instruction and library instruction' were very weak. Third, while the students' perception of the role of a teacher librarian as a 'teaching collaborator' such as 'teaching and learning support' and 'library assisted instruction and collaborative instruction' was weak, teachers recognized the role of teacher librarians as 'teaching collaborators'. Fourth, students and teachers perceived high levels of 'information service', which consists of 'book recommendation and guide activities'. Finally, it was investigated that 'professionalism' plays a central role in the students' and teachers' perception about the qualities of teacher librarians. These results can be used to establish the role of teacher librarians, develop response strategies for students and teachers, and improve their awareness.

  • This study proposed to assess courses which are currently offered in the Department of Library and Information Science, and to explore directions for improvement. Based on field librarians' needs and opinions about the courses, we suggested separating the required, core, and elective courses. We proposed six courses including 'Internship', 'Introduction to Library and Information Science', 'Cataloging and Classification', 'Library Management', and 'Information Retrieval' as required courses, and 5 courses including 'Practice in Cataloging and Classification', 'Information Resource and Service', 'Collection Development', 'Digital Library System', 'Introduction to Bibliography' and 'Records Management and Archives' as core courses. Finally, the remaining courses were recommended as selective courses which each department could select depending on their circumstances and faculty. The important components for substantial LIS courses are as follows: timeliness of training topics, expertise of educational contents, professionalism and qualifications of faculty, specialized educational materials, and increasing the major correlation between courses and professors.

  • With the recent advancements in artificial intelligence, the emergence of ChatGPT is expected to bring significant changes to various industries. In particular, there are active attempts to introduce ChatGPT in the education sector, and for librarians, utilizing ChatGPT is seen as an essential element for future learning tools. Against this background, this study aimed to examine librarians' perceptions of introducing ChatGPT in the school library through Focus Group Interviews (FGI). As a result, six themes were derived, including differences in perceptions of ChatGPT application in school libraries, teaching and learning activities utilizing ChatGPT, practical operation of ChatGPT, considerations for successful performance, librarians' required competencies and environment (infrastructure), and the development direction of ChatGPT utilization services in school libraries. Based on these findings, implications for the necessity of educational services utilizing ChatGPT were proposed. This study is significant as the first attempt to introduce ChatGPT in the school library field.
