  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of Surface-Guided Patient Setup by comparing the patient positioning accuracy when image-guided radiation therapy was used for Markerless patients(unmarked on the skin) using Surface-Guided Patient Setup and Marker patients(marked on the skin) using Laser-Based Patient Setup. Materials And Methods: The position error during IGRT was compared between a Markerless patient initially set up with SGPS using an optical surface scanning system using three cameras and a Marker patient initially set up with LBPS that aligns the laser with the marker drawn on the patient's skin. Both SGPS and LBPS were performed on 20 prostate cancer patients and 10 Stereotactic Radiation Surgery patients, respectively, and SGPS was performed on an additional 60 breast cancer patients. All were performed IGRT using CBCT or OBI. Position error of 6 degrees of freedom was obtained using Auto-Matching System, and comparison and analysis were performed using Offline-Review in the treatment planning system. Result: The difference between the root mean square (RMS) of SGPS and LBPS in prostate cancer patients was Vrt -0.02cm, Log -0.02cm, Lat 0.01cm, Pit -0.01°, Rol -0.01°, Rtn -0.01°, SRS patients was Vrt 0.02cm, Log -0.05cm, Lat 0.00cm, Pit -0.30°, Rol -0.15°, Rtn -0.33°. there was no significant difference between the two regions. According to the IGRT standard of breast cancer patients, RMS was Vrt 0.26, Log 0.21, Lat 0.15, Pit 0.81, Rol 0.49, Rtn 0.59. Conclusion:. As a result of this study, the position error value of SGPS compared to LBPS did not show a significant difference between prostate cancer patients and SRS patients. In the case of additionally performed SGPS breast cancer patients, the position error value was not large based on IGRT. Therefore, it is considered that it will be useful to replace LBPS with SGPS, which has the great advantage of not requiring patient skin marking..

  • The radiance measured from satellite has noise due to atmospheric effect. Atmospheric correction is the process of calculating surface reflectance by removing atmospheric effect and surface reflectance is calculated by the Radiative Transfer Model (RTM)-based Look-Up Table (LUT). In general, studies using a LUT make LUT for each channel with the same atmospheric and geometric conditions. However, atmospheric effect of atmospheric factors do not react sensitively in the same channel. In this study, the LUT for each channel of Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT)-3/3A was made under the same atmospheric·geometric conditions. And, the accuracy of the LUT was verified by using the simulated Top of Atmosphere radiation and surface reflectance in the RTM. As a result, the relative error of the surface reflectance in the blue channel that sensitive to the aerosol optical depth was 81.14% at the maximum, and 42.67% in the NIR (Near Infrared) channel.

  • Purpose: The object of this study was to determine if the low-priced alloy and metal UCLA abutment could be available for manufacturing bar-retained framework of implant prosthesis. Materials and methods: Bar structure was classified into 4 groups, The specimen of group 1 and 2 were based on casting high noble metal alloys and noble metal alloys with gold UCLA abutment. The specimen of group 3 and 4 were based on casting noble metal alloys and base metal alloys with metal UCLA abutment. Cast bar structure was installed in an acrylic resin model and only the screw on the hexed abutment side was tightened to 20 Ncm. On the opposite side, vertical discrepancy was measured with stereo microscope from front, back, and lateral side of the implant-abutment interface. One-way ANOVA was performed to analyze the marginal fit discrepancy. Results: One-way ANOVA test showed significant differences among all groups ($P$<.05) except for Group 1 and 3. Among them, difference between Group 1 and 2 was noticeable. Measured vertical discrepancies were all below $70{\mu}m$ except to Group 2. Conclusion: Base metal alloy and metal UCLA abutment could be used as an alternative to high-priced gold alloy for implant bar-retained framework.

  • Here, we estimated daily Photosynthetically Available Radiation (PAR) from Geostationary Ocean Colour Imager (GOCI) and compared it with daily PAR derived from polar-orbiting MODIS images. GOCI-based PAR was also validated with in-situ measurements from ocean research station, Socheongcho. GOCI PAR showed similar patterns with in-situ measurements for both the clear-sky and cloudy day, whereas MODIS PAR showed irregular patterns at cloudy conditions in some areas where PAR could not be derived due to the clouds of sunglint. GOCI PAR had shown a constant difference with the in-situ measurements, which was corrected using the in-situ measurements obtained on the days of clear-sky conditions at Socheongcho station. After the corrections, GOCI PAR showed a good agreement excepting on the days with so thick cloud that the sensor was optically saturated. This study revealed that GOCI can estimate effectively the daily PAR with its advantages of acquiring data more frequently, eight times a day at an hourly interval in daytime, than other polar orbit ocean colour satellites, which can reduce the uncertainties induced by the existence and movement of the cloud and insufficient images to map the daily PAR at the seas around Korean peninsula.

  • An optical microphone based on a dual-core fiber collimator and a membrane type micromirror serving as an optical head and a reflective diaphragm respectively was implemented. The micromirror diaphragm is suspended by a thin silicon bar linked with a frame, thus it is subject to a displacement induced by acoustic waves. The optical head incorporating two collimators integrated in a single housing gives light to and receives it from the diaphragm, rendering the optical microphone structure simple and compact. This dual-core collimator having a slowing varying beam profile facilitates the initial alignment of the optical head with the diaphragm, especially the distance between them. For the assembled microphone, the static characteristics were investigated tofind the operation point defined as the optimum distance between the head and the diaphragm, and a frequency response with a variation of about $\pm$5 dB for the range of up to 3kHz was achieved.

  • A numerical model using soil surface energy balance and soil heat flow equations to estimate mulched soil temperature was developed. The required inputs data include weather data, such as global solar radiation, air temperature, wind speed, atmospheric water vapor pressure, the optical properties of mulching material, and soil physical properties. The observed average soil temperature at 50 cm depth was used as the initial value of soil temperature at each depth. Soil temperature was simulated starting at 0 hour at an interval of 10 minutes. The model reliably described the variation of soil temperature with time progress and soil depth. The correlation between the estimated and measured temperature yielded coefficient values of 0.961, 0.966 for 5cm and 10cm depth of the bare soil, respectively, 0.969, 0.965 for the paper mulched soil, and 0.915, 0.938 for the black polyethylene film mulched soil. The percentages of absolute differences less than 2$^{\circ}$C between soil temperatures measured and simulated at 10 minute interval were 97.4% and 98.5% for 5 cm and 10cm for the bare soil, respectively, and 95.8% and 97.4% for the paper mulched soil, and 70.1% and 92.5% for the polyethylene film mulched soil. The results indicated that the model was able to predict the soil temperature fairly well under mulched condition. However, in the night time, the model performance was a little poor as compared with day time due to the difficulty of accurate determination of the atmospheric long wave radiation.

  • We designed and fabricated a compact multi-mode interference (MMI) wavelength demultiplexer using the concept of 'Improved Quasi-State' modes. The output power and extinction ratio were improved by utilizing modal phase error which is specially occurred in low-index contrast. For a designed demultiplexer, the mode propagation analysis with effective index approximation shows significant improvement of extinction ratio to -25 dB for both $1.31{\mu}m\;and\;1.51{\mu}m$ wavelength region and the split-length was reduced about 1/5 of other MMI devices. The fabricated device shows successful characteristics for both 1.31 and $1.55{\mu}m$ wavelengths. These results demonstrate the potential of low-index materials system and the embossing process for photonic integrated circuits.

  • Climate change has become the main cause of the exacerbation in natural disasters. Social Overhead Capital(SOC) structure needs to be checked for displacement and crack periodically to prevent damage and the collapse caused by natural disaster and ensure the safety. For efficient structure maintenance, the optical image technology is applied to the Structure Health Monitoring(SHM). However, optical image is sensitive to environmental factors. So it is necessary to verify its validity. In this paper, the accuracy of estimating the vertical displacement was verified with respect to environmental condition such as natural light, measurement distance, and the number of image sheets. The result of experiments showed that the effect of natural light on accuracy of estimating vertical displacement was the greatest of all. The measurement angle which was affected by the change in measurement distance was also important to check the vertical displacement. These findings will be taken into account by applying appropriate environmental condition to minimize errors when the bridge was measured by camera. It will also enable the application of optical images to the SHM.

  • Buildings become complex and diverse with time. It is difficult to extract individual buildings using only an optical image, because they have similar spectral characteristics to objects such as vegetation and roads. In this study, we propose a method to extract building area and boundary through integrating airborne Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR) data and aerial images. Firstly, a binary edge map was generated using Edison edge detector after applying Adaptive dynamic range linear stretching radiometric enhancement algorithm to the aerial image. Secondly, building objects on airborne LiDAR data were extracted from normalized Digital Surface Model and aerial image. Then, a temporary building areas were extracted by overlaying the binary edge map and building objects extracted from LiDAR data. Finally, some building boundaries were additionally refined considering positional accuracy between LiDAR data and aerial image. The proposed method was applied to two experimental sites for validation. Through error matrix, F-measure, Jaccard coefficient, Yule coefficient, and Overall accuracy were calculated, and the values had a higher accuracy than 0.85.
