As high quality digital cameras become readily available, digital cameras are being used not only for simple picture recording but also as information storing media in various fields. However, due to the fact that the spectral responses of the camera sensors are different from color matching functions of the CIE standard observer, the color can not be measured using these cameras. This study shows a method for converting camera image to sRGB image, in which color information is preserved. The transfer matrix between camera output signals and CIE stimulus values was determined using a multiple regression method with Macbeth ColorChecker as target colors. The CIE stimulus values for camera output signals can be mapped with a transfer matrix, and these values are converted to sRGB signals. As the result of testing a Kodak DC220 digital camera, the average color difference of Macbeth ColorChecker between true and displayed colors was 2.1 $\Delta$$E_{ab}$$^{*}$.$^{*}$.
The amplifier properties of single distributed feedback dye laser with 106 ps pulse width and 616 nm wavelength were invested using only one XeCl-excimer laser as pump source. For optimized amplification of DFDL, the three-stage amplifiers were arranged with increasing cross-section and accordingly increasing pump energies. The first AmpI, II stages were dye cell of 5 mm, 10 mm and contained a $6{\times}10^{-4}$ [mol/l](solvent : Methanol) of Rhodamine 610. Double-pass amplification in the AmPII was measured to suppress the ASE by using a diffraction grating. The beam intensity of AmpI, II was saturated with a gain of respectively 10 and 48. The last AmpIII was Bethune cell of 30 mm and contained a $3{\times}10^ {-4}$ [mol/l] (solvent : Ethanol) of Rhodamine 610. In the single-pass and double-pass amplification, the output energy was obtained 168.2 $\mu$J and 471$\mu$J respectively.

A Strained Layer Multiquantum-Well (SL-MQW) distributed feedback laser at a wavelength of 1.31 um operating from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $85^{\circ}C$ without any cooling is grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Lasers with high slope efficiency are achieved through careful optimization of a SL-MQW active layer, especiallyoptimizing the amount of strain, the well thickness, the barrier thickness, the number of wells, and the active layer width. In this paper, we obtain the slope efficiencies of 0.38[mW/mA] and 0.26 [mW/mA] at $25^{\circ}C$ and $85^{\circ}C$, respectively. Threshold currents are 7.1[mA] and 19.8[mA] at $25^{\circ}C$ and $85^{\circ}C$, respectively.
We have developed a measurement method of the refractive index profile of an optical fiber by using diffraction phase microscopy. In the microscope system, the reference light was extracted directly from the probe light that passed through the sample by means of pinhole filtering with a diffraction grating. The spatial interference pattern produced by the probe light and the reference light was processed to generate the phase image of the sample fiber. The index profile was obtained by the inverse Abel transform of the phase profile. In order to remove the background phase that originated from the index difference between the cladding and the surrounding medium, the background phase was calculated from the phase data of the cladding to make a core phase profile that can be directly transformed to the index profile of the core without the full phase image that includes the entire cladding part.
We have developed a daytime measuring rotational Raman LIDAR system for temperature measurement. To decrease the background signal from sunlight, we have designed and installed narrow band (0.5 nm) and high rejection ($10^{-6}$) rate band pass filter system using a grating and an interference filter. We calibrated our system by comparing our horizontal temperature profile and KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) data. We have found that our temperature profile has a good correlation with KMA data within our theoretically expected variance. And we have used these calibration values in obtaining a vertical temperature distribution. To check our system, we also have compared our vertical temperature data with US standard atmospheric temperature profile. We also have compared our temperature profile with sonde data.
Spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction (SPIDER) was fabricated and used to characterize pulses from a Ti:sapphire oscillator. In the SPIDER apparatus, two replicas of the input pulse were generated with a time delay of 200 fs and were upconverted by use of sum-frequency generation with a strongly chirped pulse using a 8-cm-long SFIO glass block at a 30-11m-thick type II BBO (p-BaBz04) crystal. The resulting interferogram was recorded with a UV-enhanced CCD array in the spectrometer. The spectral phase was retrieved by SPIDER algorithm in combination with independently measured pulse spectrum and the corresponding temporal intensity profile was reconstructed with a duration of 19 fs. As an independent cross-check of the accuracy of the method, we compared the interferometric autocorrelation (lAC) signal calculated from the SPIDER data with a separately measured lAC. The conventional, but unjustified, method of fitting a sechz pulse to the autocorrelation deceivingly yielded a pulse duration of 15 fs. This systematic underestimation of the pulse duration affirms the need for a complete characterization method. From the consideration in this paper, we concluded that the SPIDER could provide an accurate characterization of femtosecond pulses. ulses.
Optical Band-pass Filter(BPF) for the selected wavelength of 4300 nm was designed and fabricated on Si wager by alternately depositing Ge and $SiO_2$ thin layers by an electron beam evaporation technique. The fabricated BPF showed the optical transmittance characteristics of 58.2% with FWHM(Full Width at Half Maximum) of 204 nm at 4300 nm, but showed the transmittance less than 5% due to the reflectance over all the wavelength ranges except 4300 nm band. The $CO_2$ sensitivity of BPF was investigated with the transmittance as a function of $CO_2$ gas concentration using a sensing cell attached to FT-IR instrument. The transmittance of BPF was almost linearly decreased with increasing of $CO_2$ concentration in the range of from 500 to 5000 ppm. The sensing structure using double BPFs showed higher slop of transmittance vs $CO_2$ concentration, and thus higher gas sensitivity than that using a single BPF, even though the former had relatively lower transmittance.

In this paper, we propose a new noise cancellation system for the NDIR based optical analyzer, that can measure various environmental air-pollution materials (CO, $SO_2$, NOx, etc.) in real-time. The sensed signals are contaminated by the different noise sources that measurement noise with high frequencies and the drift noise with the low frequencies. They can be eliminated by a pre-processing that considering their time-domian properties and by a post-processing that using sub-power ratios in subband structure. In the proposed method, the ore and pose-processing for noise cancelling are useful for hardware implementation of the NDIR based optical analyzer with a precision measuring.
Studies of adsorption isotherms with sharp step-wise layer condensation help us to better understanding of two dimensional layers. For this, an adsorption isotherm apparatus, using a phase modulated ellipsometric technique, has been constructed and an adsorption experiment has been performed. With subatomic scale resolution(∼0.3 $\AA$), the adsorption processes could be observed by ellipsometric signals. On measurement of multilayer adsorption of argon on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG), thousands of adsorbed layers were observed at 34.04 K, which suggests that the adsorption is completely wet. On the contrary nine sharp layers of steps for adsorptions and desorptions were observed at 67.05 K. These isotherms obtained can provide a lot of information about thermodynamic states, bonding energies between adsobate and substrate, and structure transitions in the adsorbed film.

Variation of the observer's viewing position is one of the major causes of image space distortion in the stereoscopic display. Especially, a large image distortion, which is caused by different depth direction positions of the observer's two eyes, is made by the observer's rotation movement in relation to the center of the screen. This is different from distortion of horizontal and depth directional movement of the observer. In this paper, we analyzed distortion of the image space due to the observer's rotation movement and showed the corrected result of distortion through simulation in the stereoscopic display. Finally, we showed that the distortion shape of the observer's rotation movement is different from horizontal and depth directional movement of the observer.
