  • Fucoidans are sulfated fucosylated polymers from the cell wall of brown algae. We assessed the effects of Fucus evanescens fucoidan on ultraviolet-B (UVB)-induced expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) protein, mRNA, and promoter, and the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases in vitro using an immortalized human keratinocyte cell line. Pretreatment with 10 and $100\;{\mu}g/ml$ fucoidan significantly inhibited UVB-induced MMP-1 protein, mRNA and promoter activity, compared to UVB irradiation alone. Extracellular signal regulated kinase activation was markedly inhibited by treatment with fucoidan, though c-JUN N-terminal kinase activity and p38 activation were only marginally affected by fucoidan. F. evanescens fucoidan may be a potential therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of skin photoaging.

Chemical burns of the oral mucosa caused by Policresulen: report of a case (Policresulen 오용에 의한 구강 궤양의 발병 증례 및 화학화상에 대한 고찰)

  • Chemical burn on the oral mucosa is caused by contact with various chemical products and manifests with localized mucositis, keratotic white lesions, bleeding, and painful tissue surface due to the coagulation of the tissue. Policresulen ($Albothyl^{(R)}$) is a topical antiseptic, commonly used over-the-counter drug for vaginitis, thrush and stomatitis. This drug is highly acidic with pH 0.6, and can act as a strong corrosive agent to oral mucosa. When inadvertently used in oral cavity, it may cause chemical burns of oral mucosa, resulting necrosis and bleeding surface resembling to erythema multifome. A 56 years old female patient presented with the chief complaints of painful ulcerations on the tongue, the upper and lower lips. On intraoral examination, an erythromatous, erosive or ulcerative surface covered with inflammatory exudates or bleeding crust is observed on the anterior half of the tongue and the upper and lower lips. She has occasionally applied the policresulen solution topically on the tongue to relieve pain from recurrent focal glossitis for about 10 years. In this time she applied it broadly and repeatedly to the tongue, the upper and lower lips for the purpose of pain relief by herself without instruction by physician or dentist. After cessation of policresulen application, the oral mucosa was rapidly recovered with use of topical steroids. In 2 weeks the lesions subsided completely. In summary, inadvertent use of $Albothyl^{(R)}$ on oral mucosa may result in chemical burn, causing mucosal erosion, ulceration and inflammation. It can be recovered by topical use of corticosteroid for 2 weeks after cessation of using $Albothyl^{(R)}$.

A STUDY ON MICROLEAKAGE ACCORDING TO RESTORATION METHOD OF COMPOMER UNDER SALIVA CONTAMINATION (타액 오염하에서 수복방법에 따른 컴포머의 미세누출에 관한 연구)

  • Compomer that release fluoride could be used on proximal caries of child effectively. But oral cavity is always wet, so saliva inhibits bonding of tooth and compomer. When the saliva exist on bonding, it can be occured microleakages. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of salivary contamination on compomer restoration and degree of microleakage according to restoration methods. Dyract $AP^{(R)}$ and prime and $bond^{(R)}$ NT was applied by the manufacture s instructions. Elipar Trilight was applied for light curing. Saliva pool was made for reconstruction of oral cavity. Two premolar was embedded in acrylic resin. After class II cavity preperation, Dyract $AP^{(R)}$ was restored under several condition, the specimen was thermocycled 500 times with 30 second dwell time. 0.5% methylene blue was used for microleakage test. Micoleakage was measured by the ratio of the infiltration length to occlusal and gingival side interface. Data were analyzed statistically using Kruskal Wallis Test, Mann-Whitney Test. The Result were as follows ; 1. In occlusal side, there were no statistical differences. 2. In gingival side, there were no statistical differences in Group III ($ContactMatrix^{TM}$, Rubber dam, $Oraseal^{(R)}$), Group IV (No saliva contamination). 3. In gingival side, there were no statistical differences in Group I$(ContactMatrix^{TM})$, II($ContactMatrix^{TM}$, Rubber dam). 4. The Effects of Anti-Thrombotic Activities and Cardiovascular Improvement of Fermented Garlic Extracts (발효마늘 추출물의 항혈전 및 심혈관개선 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Anti-Thrombotic Activities and Cardiovascular Improvement of Fermented Garlic Extracts. The incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is increasing rapidly in developed countries, with CVDs now representing the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Natural products and ethnomedicines have been shown to reduce the risk of CVDs. Garlic is a medicinal plant used throughout the world for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiplatelet activities. We hypothesized that fermented preparations of these products may possess stronger antiplatelet effects than the non-fermented forms owing to the increased bioavailability of the bioactive compounds produced during fermentation. Therefore, we compared these compounds via in vitro and ex vivo platelet aggregation assays by using standard light transmission aggregometry and ex vivo granule secretions from rat platelets. We found that fermented preparations exerted more potent and significant inhibition of platelet aggregation both in vitro and ex vivo. Likewise, ATP release from dense granules of platelets was also significantly inhibited in fermented preparation-treated rat platelets compared to that in non-fermented preparation-treated ones. We concluded that fermented preparations exerted more potent effects on platelet function both in vitro and ex vivo, possibly as a result of the increased bioavailability of active compounds produced during fermentation. We therefore suggest that fermented products may be potent therapeutics against platelet-related CVDs and can be used as antiplatelet and antithrombotic agents.

Comparison of peripheral vascular compliance between normal and diabetic groups using the second derivative of photoplethysmogram (PPG 2차 미분을 이용한 정상인과 당뇨병 환자의 말초혈관 탄성도 비교)

  • Recently the prevalence rate of diabetes in Korea has been increasing rapidly due to high growth of economy and changes in dietary lifestyle. Vascular complication is one of diabetic complications which have frequently occurred by obesity, hyperglycemia and impaired glucose metabolism. Photoplethysmogram(PPG) measured from finger and toe is very useful for evaluation of vascular aging and sclerosis level since the PPG signal represents characteristics of peripheral vascular Several researchers have reported that second derivative of the finger PPG waveform was useful to evaluate vascular compliance and developed various analysis methods for vascular compliance. However, peripheral vascular compliance study for diabetic patient was never evaluated by using second derivative of PPG. Therefore, we aimed to objectively compare and to assess normal(n=850) and diabetic(n=50) groups vascular compliance using the second derivative of PPG waveform in this study. The evaluated factors of the second derivative of PPG are 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e' and b/a rapresents vascular compliance. This study found out that when vascular compliance is decreased, the absolute value of b/a is decreased. The average vascular compliance of 50 diabetic patients with neuropathy, $-1.09{\pm}0.14$ is statistically lower than the normal group, $-0.81{\pm}0.09$ (p<0.05). In conclusion, we suggest an objective evaluation of peripheral vascular compliance for diabetic patients and prevention of vascular complication.

Skin UVB Photo Aging Effect from Extract of Fermented Reynoutria elliptica (호장근(Reynoutria elliptica) 발효 추출물의 UVB에 의한 피부 광노화 억제효과)

  • To evaluate the skin aging inhibition effect of fermented Reynoutria elliptica, skin aging model was produced by the irradiation of UVB to hairless mice for 5 weeks. The skin erythema index for the positive control (PC), not fermented Reynoutria elliptica extract (NFR), and fermented Reynoutria elliptica extract (FR-500, 1000, 2000) groups were lower than that of the control group. However, both lipid and water capacity for the PC and FR groups were higher than those of the control group. Collagen fibers in dermis of the FR groups were almost intact with a regular arrangement which were similar to the normal (NO) group. Also, relatively much less number of mast cells and inflammatory cells were found in FR groups. The skin TBARS contents and XO activity in the FR group were significantly lower than the control group. The activities of GSH, SOD and CAT for the FR groups were significant higher than the control group. Therefore, fermented Reynoutria elliptica extract can be practically useful for the prevention or improvement of skin aging in terms of health promotion and beauty for the people.

Inhibitory Effects of Lespedeza cuneata Ethanol Extract on Ultraviolet-Induced Photo Aging (야관문 에탄올 추출물의 자외선 조사에 의한 피부 광노화 억제 효과)

  • To investigate the inhibitory effects of Lespedeza cuneataextract (LC) on photo aging, skin aging was induced by UVB irradiation of hairless mice for 5 weeks. The skin erythema indices for the positive control (PC) and Lespedeza cuneata extract (LC-1%, 3%, and 5%) groups were lower than that of the control group. However, both lipid and water capacities of the PC and LC-3% groups were significantly higher than those of the control group. Skin wrinkles in the PC and LC-3% groups formed in a pattern of shallow furrows and thin crests. Skin TBARS contents and XO activity in the LC group were lower than those of the control group. The activities of GSH, SOD, and CAT in the LC-3% group were significant higher than those of the control group. Therefore, Lespedeza cuneata extract could be an effective natural herbal material for the inhibition of skin aging in hairless mice skin.

Comparison of push-out bond strength of post according to cement application methods (시멘트 도포 방법에 따른 포스트의 push-out 접착 강도 비교)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the push-out bond strengths of resin cement/fiber post systems to post space dentin using different application methods of resin cement. Materials and Methods: Thirty extracted human premolars were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups according to the technique used to place the cement into root canal: using lentulo-spiral instrument (group Lentulo), applying the cement onto the post surface (group Direct), and injecting the material using a specific elongation tip (group Elongation tip). After shaping and filling of the root canal, post space was drilled using Rely-X post drill. Rely-X fiber post was seated using Rely-X Unicem and resin cement was light polymerized. The root specimens were embedded in an acrylic resin and the specimens were sectioned perpendicularly to the long axis using a low-speed saw. Three slices per each root containing cross-sections of coronal, middle and apical part of the bonded fiber posts were obtained by sectioning. The push-out bond strength was measured using Universal Testing Machine. Specimens after bond failure were examined using operating microscope to evaluate the failure modes. Results: Push-out bond strengths were statistically influenced by the root regions. Group using the elongation tip showed significantly higher bond strength than other ways. Most failures occurred at the cement/dentin interface or in a mixed mode. Conclusions: The use of an elongation tip seems to reduce the number of imperfections within the selfadhesive cement interface compared to the techniques such as direct applying with the post and lentulospiral technique.

Effect of Several Cultivation Method on Growth of Lythrum salicaria L. (Dwarf Pink) (몇 가지 재배방법이 털부처꽃(Dwarf Pink) 유묘의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • 털부처꽃(Lythrum salicaria L.)은 7~8월에 최산꽃차례로 붉은 자주색의 꽃이 피며, 밀원식물로 이용된다. 또한 예로부터 발효해서 술로 마시고 잎은 채소로 식용하였으며, 식중독 치료 및 설사를 멈추게 하는 효과가 있는 것으로 알려진 식물이다. 한국, 중국, 아프리카, 유럽, 북아메리카 등의 습한 지역에 분포한다. 본 연구는 다방면으로 이용이 가능한 털부처꽃을 관상용 소재로 개발하기 위한 최적의 유묘 재배 기술을 확립하기 위해 수행되었다. 유리온실 내에서 2019년 4월 27일에 종자를 파종하여 8주간 육묘하였다. 파종 용기는 162, 200 및 288 트레이로 달리하였으며, 토양 실험은 원예상토와 피트모스:펄라이트 3:1, 4:1 혼용토를 사용하였다. 파종립수 실험은 200구 트레이에 셀 당 1, 2, 4 및 6립으로 달리하였고, 추비는 hyponex (6.5-6-19)를 0, 250, 500, $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$의 농도로 출아 후 2주 간격으로 총 3회 엽면시비하였다. 또한 차광 실험은 0, 55, 75%로 설정하였다. 대조구는 200구 트레이에 원예상토를 충진하고 셀당 1립씩 파종하여 무차광 조건에서 육묘하였으며, hyponex $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$를 추비하였다. 연구의 결과, 파종용기에 따른 털부처꽃 유묘는 셀 당 토양의 양이 가장 많은 162구 트레이에서 왕성하였다. 토양 종류별 실험은 원예상토 단용구에서 모든 생육이 양호한 결과를 보였으며, 피트모스와 펄라이트의 혼용토에서는 생육이 억제되었다. 파종립수에 따른 초장의 유의적인 생육 차이는 없었으나, 전반적인 생육은 1립 파종에서 우수하였다. 한편 2립 또는 4립을 파종구에서 비교적 생육이 양호하고 풍성하게 보이는 효과가 있어 관상적 이용에 적합할 것으로 생각되었다. 추비처리는 hyponex의 농도가 가장 높은 $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리구에서 유묘의 생육이 가장 양호하였고, $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리에서는 무처리와 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 차광처리는 털부처꽃의 유묘 재배시 전반적인 생육을 증가시켰으며, 55% 차광에서 가장 우수하였다. 결론적으로 털부처꽃의 육묘는 162구 트레이에 원예상토를 충진한 다음 셀 당 2립 또는 4립을 파종하고 55% 차광 조건에서 재배하는 것이 효과적이며, 추비는 hyponex $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$를 처리하는 것이 양묘 생산에 적합한 것으로 판단된다.

복사열 교란에 대한 고체 추진제 응답 함수의 FM 방법에 의한 수치적 계산

  • 교란에 대한 고체 추진제의 연소율의 반등에 대한 이해는 고성능 추진제를 설계하는데 매우 중요한 요소이다. 그 동안의 연구는 고체 추진제의 표면에서 발생하는 교란이 매우 작은 크기로 발생한다는 선형적인 가정을 사용하여 이론적인 응답 함수를 구하였다. 특히 실험실에서 행해지는 교란에 대한 추진제의 응답 함수를 구하기 위하여 이용한 비집촉식 교란 방법을 사용하였다. 이 경우 추진제 표면으로 전달되는 복사열 전달의 크기는 레이저에 의한 복사 일전달과 기체 영의 화염에 의한 열전달을 동시에 고려하여야 한다. 그러나 언급하였던 것처럼 대부분의 이론적 연구는 추진제 표면의 온도 구매가 단열인 것으로 가정하여 진행하였다. 이러한 가정을 기체 영역으로부터 추진제로 전달되는 열전달 량이 작은 점소화초기 등에서 타당한 가정이나, 기체 영역에서 연소가 활발하게 진행되는 경우에는 비합리적인 가정이다. 본 연구에서는. 추진제의 응축 영역에서 분포 화학 반응이 발생하여, 기체 영역에서 화학반응에 의한 연소가 진행되는 경우, 복사 열전달의 교란에 대한 추진제의 응답함수를 수치적으로 계산하였다. 이때 기체 영역에서 발생하는 연소 반응은 De Luca 등에 의하여 제안된 실험적 모델인 $\alpha$ $\beta$ ${\gamma}$ 화염 모델을 사용하였으며, 추진제 표면에서의 열전달 균형에 의한 경계 조건을 사용하였다. 그러나 외부로부터 입사되는 복사광 레이저와 기체 영역의 상호 간섭은 고려하지 않았다. 수치 계산에 의한 응답 함수의 특징은 단열 조건이 사용된 이론적 응답 함수에 비하여 낮은 값을 나타내었으며, 최대치를 보이는 주파수 영역도 이론 함수에 비하여 다른 값을 보여주고 있다.연구 분석 결과 기술적 문제점으로는 배기 가스온도가 낮은데 따른 출구 부분의 Bearing, Sealing이 문제가 될 수 있다고 판단되며 배기 가스 자체에 대기 공기중에 함유되어 있던 습기가 얼어붙는(Icing화) 문제가 발생하기 때문에 배기가스의 Icing을 방지하기 위하여 압축기 끝단에서 공기를 추출하여 배기부분에 송출할 필요성이 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 출구가스의 기체 유동속도가 매우 빠르므로 (100-l10m.sec) 이를 완화하기 위한 디퓨저의 설계가 요구된다고 판단된다. 또 연소기 후방에 물을 주입하는 경우 열교환기 및 기타 부분품에 발생할 수 있는 부식 및 열교환 효율 저하도 간과할 수 없는 문제로 파악되었다. 이러한 기술적 문제가 적절히 해결되는 경우 비활성 가스 제너레이터는 민수용으로는 대형 빌딩, 산림, 유조선 등의 화재에 매우 적절히 사용되어 질 수 있을 뿐 아니라 군사적으로도 군사작전 중 및 공군 기지의 화재 그리고 지하벙커에 설치되어 있는 고급 첨단 군사 장비 등의 화재 뿐 아니라 대간첩작전 등에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.가 작으며, 본 연소관에 충전된 RDX/AP계 추진제의 경우 추진제의 습기투과에 의한 추진제 물성 변화는 미미한 것으로 나타났다.의 향상으로, 음성개선에 효과적이라고 사료되었으며, 이 방법이 편측 성대마비 환자의 효과적인 음성개선의 치료방법의 하나로 응용될 수 있으리라 생각된다..7%), 혈액투석, 식도부분절제술 및 위루술·위회장문합술을 시행한 경우가 각 1례(2.9%)씩이었다. 13) 심각한 합병증은 9례(26.5%)에서 보였는데 그중 식도협착증이 6례(17.6%), 급성신부전증 1례(2.9%), 종격동기흉과 폐염이 병발한 경우와 폐염이 각 1례(2.9%)였다. 14
