  • 파장 분할 다중화(Wavelength division multiplexing : WDM) 광전송 장치의 용량확대를 위한 방안으로 여러 가지 방법들이 연구 개발되고 있으며, 최근 들어 테라 급(Tb/s) 광전송 연구 결과들이 발표되고 있다. 이러한 장거리 광전송 장치의 광송신기는 LiNbO$_3$ 마하-젠더(Mach-Zehnder) 간섭계형 외부 변조기를 주로 사용하고 있다. 한편 반도체 레이저 집적된 전계 흡수형 변조기(Electro-absorption modulator integrated laser : EML)를 이용한 외부 변조 방식 적용을 위해서 여러 연구소 및 기업체에서는 40Gb/s의 성능을 지닌 EML의 개발 결과들을 발표하고 있다.   • We have proposed a broadband analog feedforward optical transmitter using a wideband $180^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler instead of conventional frequency-sensitive phase shifter with the narrow bandwidth property using a wideband $180^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler, the wide-band linearization technique enhances the linearity of the feedforward optical transmitter. In two-tone cases, the $3^{rd}-IMD$ products was enhanced more than 10 dB in 385 MHz range(1.375$\sim$l.76 GHz).

  • 데이터 통신의 지속적인 수요증가로 그동안 충분한 투자가 없었던 메트로망 영역과 가입자망 영역의 광부품 수요는 지속적으로 계속될 것이며, 메트로 기간망 영역의 변조속도도 622Mbit/s, 2.5Gbit/s에서 2.5Gbit/s와 10Gbit/s가 같이 사용되는 상황이 예상된다. 현재까지 10Gbit/s 광송신기에는 성능이 증명된 리튬나이오베이트(LN) 광변조기가 주로 사용되고 있었으나 최근의 메트로 광통신에서는 전송거리에 따라 소형이고 가격이 저렴한 EML 혹은 uncooled DFB 레이저의 사용이 증가하고 있다.   • We have systematically designed and experimentally demonstrated the opto-electrical predistortion optical transmitter using microwave circuit modelling for reducing the nonlinearity of the distributed-feedback laser diode (DFD-LD). The DFB-LD is analyzed using microwave circuits model based on rate equations. Through the system-level simulation for predistortion method, the optimized characteristics of the RF components in the system are confirmed. The simulated and experimental results show the reduced distortion products. These results are analyzed as the evaluation parameters for the miniaturization and optimization of the opto-electrical predistortion method in radio-over-fiber systems.

  • By comparing video-overlay method where digital and SCM signal are modulated in different optical source, we experimentally investigated the performance of simultaneous modulation of data and broadcasting signals using a single LD for broadcasting in PON based optical access network. The experimental results show that by increasing the minimum value of injected current for LD modulation above about 1.5 times of threshold current of LD, data and broadcasting signals can modulate without mutual interference. We also proposed and demonstrated the scheme of optical transmitter optimized for simultaneous modulation of data and broadcasting signals where anode and cathode of LD are separately used as signal interface for data and broadcasting signals, respectively.

  • A Gigabit Ethernet upstream transmission over a WDM-PON employing remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been demonstrated. We have successfully demonstrated a WDM transmission of four Gigabit Ethernet channels with 100 GHz channel spacing over 30 km conventional single mode fiber. The measured f-factor was larger than 17.1 dB. We have also investigated the beating noise characteristics of a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser and showed the remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser suppresses the intensity noise of the incoherent light injected, which cause a 6.3 dB SNR improvement compared with that of the conventional spectrum-sliced light source.

  • The PSPICE equivalent circuit elements of a 1550 nm InGaAsP laser diode were derived by using multi-level rate equations. The device parameters were extracted by using a self-consistent numerical method for the optical gain properties of the MQW active regions. The resulting equivalent circuit model is also applied to an actual optical transmitter, and its PSPICE simulation results show good agreement with the measured results once the parasitic capacitance due to the packaging is taken into account.
