  • 지금까지의 탐사결과 지구를 제외한 다른 행성에 생명체가 존재한다는 직접적인 증거는 찾지 못했다 .그러나 최근 미국화성탐사선 패스파인더가 보내온 자료에선 화성의 지질환경이 지구와 유사한 것으로 나타나 미생물 같은 생명체의 존재가능성을 뒷받침해 주고 있다. 또 지구상에서 화산구나 온천, 극지 등 가혹한 환경에서도 미생물들이 번창하고 있는 것이 발견돼 이런 가능성은 더욱 커지고 있다.

Analysis of Socio-Scientific Issues(SSI) Programs in Korea (과학 관련 사회적 쟁점(Socio-Scientific Issues, SSI)을 활용한 국내 프로그램 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analysis total number of 123 SSI programs by SSI criteria. The criteria was consisted of subject, school level, starting point, scientific evidence, social content, use of scientific knowledge, level of conflict of interest, and evaluation and reflection. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, elementary school programs were the most and middle school programs were relatively few. Second, starting point was mainly in the actual situation, the fiction and nonfiction situation, and the situation including the controversy and conflict was less than 10%. Third, it was based on scientific evidence but mainly influenced by individual values and perceptions. Fourth, social contents were developed mainly in ethics/morality/value, political/social life/economy, environment contents. Fifth, the use of scientific knowledge mainly consisted of scientific decision making, scientific critical thinking, and information search. However, science inquiry, risk assessment, and cost effectiveness were less than 10%. Scientific inquiry is the essential factor of science education, and one of core competencies of national science curriculum. SSI program should be able to experience various kinds of conflicts, and to evaluate and reflect through reflection.

  • This research was the first step to develop Expert System for Evaluation of Human Sensibility, where human sensibility can be inferred from objective physiological signals. The study aim was to develop an algorithm in which human arousal level can be judged using measured physiological signals. Fuzzy theory was applied for mathematical handling of the ambiguity related to evaluation of human sensibility, and the degree of belonging to a certain sensibility dimension was quantified by membership function through which the sensibility evaluation was able to be done. Determining membership function was achieved using results from a physiological signal database of arousal/relaxation that was generated from imagination. To induce one final result (arousal level) based on measuring the results of more than 2 physiological signals and the membership function of each physiological signal, Dempster-Shafer's Rule of Combination in Evidence was applied, through which the final arousal level was inferred.

  • Mammalial expression vectors containing GRP94, BiP, ERp72, and PDI, were introduced into FRTL5 cells. Transfected cells were selected by neomycin resistance for exogenously overexpressed proteins in the ER. The use of a reducible cross-linker, DSP, markedly improved the ability to detect noncovalent interactions of PDI, BiP and GRP94 with newly-synthesized thyroglobulin. Under normal conditions, GRP94 was found to associate transiently with early Tg folding intermediates, displaying interaction kinetics similar to those reported for another ER chaperones of BiP.

  • 2004년 2월~5월까지 대구시 달서구 00동 소재에서 연쇄방화가 발생 되어 수사를 하여 오던 중 우리경찰서에서 다방면으로 수사하여 차량화재 방화범 000를 검거 후 기소한 상태에서 공판이 진행되던 과정에서 변호인 측에서 일회용 라이터로는 차량을 착화 또는 발화의 가능성이 현저히 어렵다는 이유로 피고인의 무혐의를 주장하는 변론이 제기되어 00지방검찰청 000 담당검사의 요청에 의하여 혐의를 입증하고 검증할 수 있는 자료를 제출하고 검증자료가 없으면 본 건의 조건에 따르는 실험을 실시하고 감정결과를 제출하라는 지휘에 의거 우리경찰서 과학수사팀에서는 차량(프라이드)을 1대 구입하여 지방경찰청 과학수사팀, 국립과학수사구소 남부분소 이공학실 화재 연구실과 연계하여 차량화재 실험을 실시하고 실험과정 및 발화 행태와 양상을 구체적으로 증명할 수 있는 자료를 조사연구 분석하고 국립과학수사 연구소에서는 00지방검찰청에 촬영 데이터 원본영상과 촬영물, 그리고 감정서를 작성, 실험 결과를 문서화하여 제출하여 혐의를 입증한 사례 연구로 피의자에 대한 혐의 입증시 상황이나 정황 증거보다 실체적 진실증거의 중요성을 재인식 하고자 한다.

  • 운동은 모든 질환을 가진 사라에게 유용하다. 특히 만성질환을 예방하고 치료하는데 효과적이란 것이 잘 알려졌으며, 또한 각종 암의 예방과 치료에도 운동이 필요하다는 과학적 증거들이 밝혀지고 있다. 운동은 인체의 면역기능에도 영향을 미쳐, 격렬한 훈련을 받고 있는 운동선수들이 감기가 잘 걸린다거나 마라톤을 하고 난 직후에 면역기능이 떨어져 여러 가지 질환에 이환되는 비율이 높다. 그러나 적당한 운동은 면역기능을 향상시키고 질병에 대한 저항력을 강화시키며, 암의 예방과 치료에 도움이 된다는 것이 알려지면서 많은 운동프로그램이 나오고 있다.

An Exploratory Study of the 'Method of Multiple Working Hypotheses' as a Method of Earth Scientific Inquiry (지구과학의 탐구 방법으로서 '복수 작업가설의 방법'의 특징에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • In this study, the method of multiple working hypotheses (MMWH) as a method of earth scientific inquiry was applied in a context of abductive reasoning about the formation of a rock with a specific structure, and the characteristics of MMWH revealed in the reasoning process were explored. Participants were 31 senior undergraduate students enrolled in a course in a university of education. As part of the course, the participants performed abductive inquiry with multiple working hypotheses about the formation of a rock. The students were asked to record both the processes and results of their reasoning in sketchbooks. The content of the students' sketchbook reports was analyzed according to the principle of analytic induction. Results demonstrated four assertions. First, the participants' working hypotheses were suggested in the use of resource models, and the adaption of the resource models often occurred in this process. Second, the perceptual properties of evidence influenced the activation of the resource models. Third, the kinds of observed evidence and the different interpretations of evidence resulted into different judgments on working hypotheses. Fourth, sometimes new hypotheses were generated by the combination of alternative hypotheses. Implications of these findings for earth science education and relevant research were discussed.

  • 'Memory discourse' takes an important role in the paradigm shift of archival science. Memory points to the limitation of 'records as evidence' that had been assumed to be representable and redefines the record as an infinite interpretable medium by captured memory. Now, recordkeeping are given a new question as 'what world to remember' beyond 'how to remember the world' between 'visible' records and 'invisible' memories. And, the power of memory's personal, present, and everyday aspect is linked to the argument that the keeping of memory and records itself can take a social justice role. In this article, we examine the western archival science's memory discourse landscape comprehensively and reconstruct it to examine the possibility of memories' social justice or archival justice.

Analysis of Secondary Students' Causal Explanation about a Genetic Phenomena (중학생들의 유전 현상에 대한 인과적 설명 글쓰기 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the knowledge and ability levels of middle school students in four areas: conceptual understanding, argument construction, justification schemes, and use of scientific knowledge in a causal explanation for a genetic phenomenon. A group of 162 middle school students who have taken a class titled Genetics and Evolution participated in the study. Each student answered-and justified the answer to-one question pertaining to genetics. Ability levels were rated from level 0 to level 4, with 4 being the top rating. Students were required to choose one of two competing arguments to explain whether green seed pimps and red seed pimps of the same size and shape were the same species or not. Analyzing conceptual understanding: 47% of the respondents provided the correct answer. Analyzing their abilities for constructing an argument: 75% of the students with the correct answer and 42% of the students with the incorrect answer were evaluated to be at ability level 3 or 4 for argument construction. Analyzing the students' justification schemes: "Scientific idea" and "Analogy" were the most frequently used schemes. Analyzing their use of scientific knowledge: of the students who selected the scientific idea justification scheme, 36% used the correct scientific knowledge, but the remainder used inaccurate or nonspecific scientific knowledge. These findings provide implication for encouraging argumentative writing explaining scientific phenomena regarding epistemic practice.
