The purpose of this study is to analyze gifted students' perception of the teaching activities at the gifted science high school (Busan Science Academy), in Busan, Korea, and to investigate the science experiment class practice. In this study, a questionnaire about the curriculum courses, teaching strategies, and evaluation method of the school was administered to 139 gifted students. The verbal interactions during the science experiment class were audio and videotaped, transcribed, and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows: First, according to the gifted students' perception, the credits of specialized courses and advanced elective courses need to be increased and the credits of general courses need to be reduced. Second, teachers at this school mainly use teaching strategies such as lecture, group activities, and discussion; on the other hand, the students prefer diverse teaching strategies such as discussion, lecture, experiment, inquiring activities, and problem solving. Third, students prefer a writing test assessment rather than a written report assessment or portfolio assessment. Fourth, the patterns of verbal interaction were different depending on the level of the teachers' questions and interactions between the students in the experiment class facilitated students' inquiry.
In this paper, it conducted the following works to develop the selective test for the gifted of information science in elementary schools. First, it presented the discrete mathematical thinking as an essential competence of elementary information science gifted, through theoretical research with many expert's studies, in order to investigate the definition and characteristics of information science gifted. Second, it developed a test to measure the discrete mathematical thinking, according to the results of analysis of discrete mathematical elements, appeared in the 7th national mathematics curriculum, in order to extract the characteristics of selective test for elementary information science gifted. Third, regarding the verification of items in a newly developed test, it adjusted the difficulty and discrimination by conducting 2 sessions of preliminary test, and then finally confirmed that the standards of items in the test, by testifying sufficient level of validity after the application to a main experiment.
This study is intended to reconsider the meaning of the education for gifted/talented children, the foundation object of science high school by examining the behavior characteristics between gifted students and talented students in open-end mathematical problem solving and to provide the basis for realization of 'meaningful teaming' tailored to the learner's level, the essential of school education. For the study, 8 students (4 gifted students and 4 talented students) were selected out of the 1 st grade students in science high school through the distinction procedure of 3 steps and the behavior characteristics between these two groups were analyzed according to the basis established through the literature survey. As the results of this study, the following were founded. (1) It must be recognized that the constituent members of science high school were not the same excellent group and divided into the two groups, gifted students who showed excellence in overall field of mathematical behavior characteristics and talented students who had excellence in learning ability of mathematics. (2) The behavior characteristics between gifted students and talented students, members of science high school is understood and a curriculum of science high school must include a lesson for improving the creativity as the educational institutions for gifted/talented students, unlike general high school. Based on these results, it is necessary to try to find a support plan that it reduces the case which gifted students are generalized with common talented students by the same curriculum and induces the meaningful loaming to learners, the essential of school education.

We have investigated the recognition for the gifted science education program of middle school students being educated at the local center for the gifted. We developed a questionnaire that includes items for contents of the program, learning environments, participation attitude, effects of the program and improvements, and consists of it5-point Likert items and related descriptive items. 161 students at the local centers for the gifted responded to the questionnaire. The total score was 3.70 on a 5-point Likert scale. The score of effects of the program was highest, learning environments was the lowest. Most of the students referred that the participation of the programs help their schoolwork because of schoolwork preparations & review, learning the process of the solving problem and principle. On the contrary, difficult contents and long lesson hours interrupted their schoolwork. Students recognized that the programs are mainly composed of students' self-activities and the role of teachers is subsidiary. The programs have a good effect on them to increase interest in science and creative thinking. It is necessary that the program be improved in lesson hours, contents of the program, school facilities, and full service.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the status and gifted students' perception on curriculum implementation for gifted education at Busan Science Academy. For the purpose, we investigated the curriculum documents, the process of implementing curriculum and the result of the questionnaire. The questionnaire about the curriculum courses, teaching strategies and evaluation method was answered by 143 students at Busan Science Academy. The curriculum courses are composed of general courses and specialized courses: general courses comprise of Korean language, social studies, foreign languages, arts, and physical education. Specialized courses consist of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, information science. Elective courses are divided into basic elective courses and in-depth courses. Each in-depth course deals with more specialized content. The significant results of the questionnaire are as follows: First, according to gifted students' perception, the credits of specialized courses and in-depth elective courses need to be increased and the credits of general courses need to be reduced. Second, teachers at this school mainly use teaching strategies such as lecture, group activities and discussion, but the students prefer diverse teaching strategies such as lecture, discussion, experiment, individual research, problem solving and field studies. Third, students prefer a paper-and-pencil testing assesment rather than a written report assesment and lab experiment assesment. According to this study, the characteristics of the acceleration curriculum at Busan Science Academy were too intensive. Thus it is difficult to implement the enrichment education according to the demand of gifted students in this school. Therefore, this study suggests that we need to revise the curriculum courses of Busan Science Academy and develop contents and strategies for gifted education in science and mathematics.
The purpose of the study is to explore the experiences and meaning of the AP (Advanced Placement) at the specialized school for the highly gifted through the in-depth interview with 39 college students who had graduated from the specialized schools with the AP experiences. It is expected that the AP will be expanded to the students at the Science High Schools from the year of 2015, however, there has been no study to examine the realities of the AP in-depth especially through the voices of the AP participants. Students have taken 8 required and/or selective courses as AP in average. Students usually start to take AP from the second year of the specialized school for the highly gifted, but some start from the first year through the placement test. Numbers of available AP courses vary by subjects, but relatively more courses open in the areas of math and physics. Students' opinions regarding the AP were quite positive. Specifically, the high quality of the AP class and energetic interaction between student and teacher compared to the college classes were preferred by the students. However, it was controversial whether C+ is enough for the pass condition of the AP. Students were using the shortened time by AP in diverse ways, such as early graduation, double majors, exchange students, individual researches, and so on. Most of all, they tried to search for their career interests through the AP experiences. In closing, the present study provides some advices and future directions for the better AP management, including the improvement of administrative system between schools for the gifted and the universities, and the expansion of the number of university which approves the AP system.
In order to investigate the differentiation for gifted students, we studied the present condition of differentiation applied in science classes at regular schools, private educational institutes, and gifted education centers. A questionnaire regarding differential instruction was administered to 90 eighth graders enrolled in university- based gifted centers in Seoul. The results of chi-square testing based on the questions and educational institutions showed that students used only a textbook at regular schools and several workbooks at private educational institutes, while students could use various specialty publications at gifted education centers. Students frequently took post-test at regular schools and private education institutes. Further, at regular schools and private education institutes, students who completed curricular activities early spent their time performing unrelated tasks or reviewing the lessons or solving problems. Gifted students tend to develop their interests by themselves through science classes at regular schools. However, efforts to group students according to their interests were predominant at the gifted education centers. The response rate for students' choice of curricular activities and teachers' preparation for advanced learners were the lowest in all questions.
This study examined the friendship expectation that science-gifted and non-gifted elementary students perceived in gifted class and regular class. In 233 science-gifted elementary students and 329 non-gifted elementary students, we measured the friendship expectation that sub-domains were intimacy, ability similarity, and morality. The results of this study were as follows: First, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted and non-gifted students at the regular class, there was statistically significant intergroup difference in the sub-domains of intimacy and morality, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domain of ability similarity. Second, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted at the gifted class and at the regular class, there was statistically significant difference in the sub-domain of intimacy, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domains of morality and ability similarity. Based the results, the implications to understand the friendship of the science gifted elementary students were suggested in depth.

As a sequel of "special improvement act for gifted student education" legislated on January 2000, "regulation act for gifted student education" was published on April 2002 which is the time Korea has settled down its education for the gifted. Announced in the December 2007 "general plan for development of gifted student education" provided a platform for the gifted student education in Korea of growth in quantity, in which a plan of providing gifted student education up to 1 percent of the elementary and middle school level students (approximately 70 thousands) has been established while the education currently provides to 0.59 percent (40 thousands) of all students. Until recently, however, education for gifted students has been performed based on the way of concentrating on academic domains. and it has put more weights on mathematics and english domains. In order to overcome this drawbacks, there have been various attempts for growth in quality of education for gifted students, one of them is the our proposal of convergence of science and art education for cultivating 21 century creative humans through establishment of new type of institution. In this paper, education curriculum and management strategies appliable to the proposed convergence education institutions for gifted students. For this purpose we derived the implication points through analysis on education processes used in korea science school for the gifted students, a representative institution for the gifted students in Korea, and we suggested educational process curriculums for the science and art institute for gifted students along with the detailed contents of convergence subject which is an essential subject to the institute.

The purpose of this study was to analyze intellectual characteristics of elementary students in science-gifted education. For this, 72 science-gifted students were selected. Multiple intelligences, creativity, and the science process skills of these students were tested. To compare these traits with those of general students, 78 general students were also tested. The results of this study indicated that science-gifted students significantly surpassed general students in the areas of logical-mathematics, intra-person, and naturalist. Especially, the intelligences of logical-mathematics and intra-person were strong point of the science-gifted students. But music intelligence among the 8 intelligence was weak point. Creativity and the science process skills of the students in science-gifted education excelled those of general students. Therefore, to enhance the efficiency of the science-gifted education program in elementary school, it is necessary to consider the intellectual characteristics of the students.
