  • Information Visualization is an information technology to visually represent the data and information by utilizing various tools. Visual information can increase the user's intuitiveness and it can be an effective way that can observe and comprehend the specific information in a short time. Information Visualization, as a research method on Humanities, in the high interest of researchers of Humanities and Area studies, is recently used for collecting base data and analyzing information. As an way to use Information Visualization, various forms of Information Visualization like Electronic Cultural Atlas, Network and Multimedia are actively discussed and studied today. In this paper, Information Visualization will be discussed by utilizing D3, a web-based technology for dynamic visualization. In detail, relationship between the Abbasids of Islam can be visualized by using nodes and connection lines and, this relationship between objects will be analyzed efficiently. Researchers related in this field can use this analyzed information for basis data in their researches.

Analysis of Domestic Patents Related to Usefulness of Native Plants in Korea (대한민국 자생식물 유용성 관련 국내 특허 분석)

  • Native plants thrive naturally in specific areas without human intervention, offering significant potential as genetic resources and biotechnological assets across multiple sectors. To harness this potential, our focus was on analyzing domestic patents related to native plants, investigating their uses, effectiveness, active components, and extraction methods. Using the Korea Forest Service's National Standard Plant List, we gathered data from 988 patents on native plants and 430 patents on the use of native plant seeds. This comprehensive patent analysis aimed to reveal research patterns, technology levels, and emerging trends. The goal is to identify research trends, current technology levels, and provide insights for future patent applications involving native plants.

  • Large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized the global landscape of technology beyond the field of natural language processing. Owing to their extensive pre-training using vast datasets, contemporary LLMs can handle tasks ranging from general functionalities to domain-specific areas, such as radiology, without the need for additional fine-tuning. Importantly, LLMs are on a trajectory of rapid evolution, addressing challenges such as hallucination, bias in training data, high training costs, performance drift, and privacy issues, along with the inclusion of multimodal inputs. The concept of small, on-premise open source LLMs has garnered growing interest, as fine-tuning to medical domain knowledge, addressing efficiency and privacy issues, and managing performance drift can be effectively and simultaneously achieved. This review provides conceptual knowledge, actionable guidance, and an overview of the current technological landscape and future directions in LLMs for radiologists.

  • An information system for defense technology information management should assist the user's work and manager's decision-making by managing and timely providing data held by defense-related organizations. This paper proposes a plan for constructing an advance defense technology information service. DTiMS concentrates on the collection and management of defense science technology information but not its distribution. Therefore, it is important that the advanced distribution service model be established on the concept of total life cycle management that utilizes user information, so that it can provide proper information to each user in the defense field who require the information processed by their roles. This study examined the management of information and operation method through advanced case analysis. In addition, the analysis of existing services revealed improvements in the management of an information standard, the trace ability of information and usability, and improved user-interface. The proposed development direction was implemented by deploying the advanced DTiMS. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed methodology will contribute to the weapon system total life cycle, and will support defense technology planning, and R&D decisions.

Implementation of a Prefetch method for Secondary Index Scan in MySQL InnoDB Engine (MySQL InnoDB엔진의 Secondary Index Scan을 위한 Prefetch 기능 구현)

  • Flash SSDs have many advantages over the existing hard disks such as energy efficiency, shock resistance, and high I/O throughput. For these reasons, in combination with the emergence of innovative technologies such as 3D-NAND and V-NAND for cheaper cost-per-byte, flash SSDs have been rapidly replacing hard disks in many areas. However, the existing database engines, which have been developed mainly assuming hard disks as the storage, could not fully exploit the characteristics of flash SSDs (e.g. internal parallelism). In this paper, in order to utilize the internal parallelism intrinsic to modern flash SSDs for faster query processing, we implemented a prefetching method using asynchronous input/output as a new functionality for secondary index scans in MySQL InnoDB engine. Compared to the original InnoDB engine, the proposed prefetching-based scan scheme shows three-fold higher performance in the case of 16KB-page sizes, and about 4.2-fold higher performance in the case of 4KB-page sizes.

Performance Enhancement and Evaluation of AES Cryptography using OpenCL on Embedded GPGPU (OpenCL을 이용한 임베디드 GPGPU환경에서의 AES 암호화 성능 개선과 평가)

  • Recently, an increasing number of embedded processors such as ARM Mali begin to support GPGPU programming frameworks, such as OpenCL. Thus, GPGPU technologies that have been used in PC and server environments are beginning to be applied to the embedded systems. However, many embedded systems have different architectural characteristics compare to traditional PCs and low-power consumption and real-time performance are also important performance metrics in these systems. In this paper, we implement a parallel AES cryptographic algorithm for a modern embedded GPU using OpenCL, a standard parallel computing framework, and compare performance against various baselines. Experimental results show that the parallel GPU AES implementation can reduce the response time by about 1/150 and the energy consumption by approximately 1/290 compare to OpenMP implementation when 1000KB input data is applied. Furthermore, an additional 100 % performance improvement of the parallel AES algorithm was achieved by exploiting the characteristics of embedded GPUs such as removing copying data between GPU and host memory. Our results also demonstrate that higher performance improvement can be achieved with larger size of input data.

  • We describe the in-flight sensitivity calibration of the Far ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (FIMS, also known as SPEAR) onboard the first Korean science satellite, STSAT-1, which was launched in September 2003. The sensitivity calibration is based on a comparison of the FIMS observations of the hot white dwarf G191B2B, and two O-type stars Alpha-Cam, HD93521 with the HUT (Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope) observations. The FIMS observations for the calibration targets have been conducted from November 2003 through May 2004. The effective areas calculated from the targets are compared with each other.

Graph-based Wi-Fi Radio Map Construction and Update Method (그래프 기반 Wi-Fi 신호 지도 구축 및 갱신 기법)

  • Among Wi-Fi based indoor positioning systems, fingerprinting localization is the most common technique with high precision. However, construction of the initial radio map and the update process require considerable labor and time effort. To address this problem, we propose an efficient method that constructs the initial radio map at each vertex based on a graph. In addition, we introduce a method to update the radio map automatically by mapping signal data acquired from users to the reference point created on each edge. Since the proposed method collects signal data manually only at the vertex of the graph to build the initial radio map and updates it automatically, our proposed method can dramatically reduce labor and time effort, which are the disadvantages of the conventional fingerprinting method. In our experimental study, we show validity of our radio map update method by comparing with the actual reference point data. We also show that our proposed method is able to construct the radio map with an accuracy of about 3.5m by automatically updating the radio map.

Secure Format-Preserving Encryption for Message Recovery Attack (메시지 복구 공격에 안전한 형태보존암호)

  • Recently, due to the personal information security act, the encryption of personal information has attracted attention. However, if the conventional encryption scheme is used directly, the database schema must be changed because the conventional encryption scheme does not preserve the format of the data, which can yield a large cost. Therefore, the Format-Preserving Encryption(FPE) has emerged as an important technique that ensures the confidentiality of the data and maintains the database schema naturally. Accordingly, National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) recently published the FF1 and FF3 as standards for FPE, although problems have been found in the security of FF1 and FF3 against message recovery attacks. In this paper, we study and analyze FF1 and FF3 as the standards of FPE, as well as the message recovery attack on these schemes. We also study a secure FPE against message recovery attack and verify the efficiency by implementing standardized FF1 and FF3.

Analysis on the Current Status of the Fourth Industrial Revolution-Oriented Curriculum of the Computer and Software-Related Majors Based on the Standard Classification (표준분류에 기준한 컴퓨터 및 소프트웨어 관련 전공의 제4차 산업혁명중심 교육과정 운영 현황 분석)

  • This paper analyzed the curriculum of computer and software-related majors educating the core IT-related skills needed for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The analysis was conducted on 158 majors classified as applied software, computer science and computer engineering according to the standard classification of university education units by the Standard Classification Committee of the Korean Council of University Education. The current status of introduction of curricular divided into the fields of Internet of Things(IoT) & mobile, cloud & big data, artificial intelligence(AI), and information security was analyzed among the contents of education in the relevant departments. According to the analysis, an average of 81.6% of the majors for each group of curricular organized related subjects into the curriculum. The Curriculum Response Index for the 4th industrial revolution(CRI4th) by major, calculated by weighting track operations by education sector, averaged 27.5 point out of 100 point. And the IoT & mobile sector had the highest score of 42.3 points.
