Intelligent Monitoring System for Solitary Senior Citizens with Vision-Based Security Architecture (영상보안 구조 기반의 지능형 독거노인 모니터링 시스템)

  • With the increasing of aging population, a lot of researches on monitoring systems for solitary senior citizens are under study. In general, a monitoring system provides a monitoring service by computing the information of vision, sensors, and measurement values on a server. Design considering data security is essential because a risk of data leakage exists in the structure of the system employing the server. In this paper, we propose a intelligent monitoring system for solitary senior citizens with vision-based security architecture. The proposed system protects privacy by ensuring high security through an architecture that blocks communication between a camera module and a server by employing an edge AI module. The edge AI module was designed with Verilog HDL and verified by implementing on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). We tested our proposed system on 5,144 frame data and demonstrated that a dangerous detection signal is generated correctly when human motion is not detected for a certain period.

  • 제4차 산업혁명(클라우드, 빅데이터, Internet of Things, 인공지능 등)과 관련된 다양한 기술이 개발되고 연구가 되면서 네트워크를 사용하는 다양한 기기(모바일, 클라우드 서버 등)에서 축적되는 데이터의 양도 점점 증가하고 있다. 데이터 전송 서비스를 지원하는 기관이나 데이터 전송을 위한 인프라를 지원하는 기관에서는 종종 데이터가 빅데이터가 되어갈수록 기관 간의 효율적인 데이터 전송이 어려워 직접 방문하여 필요한 정보만 전달 받기도 한다. 초고속 네트워크 시대에 우리는 과학기술정보의 효율적인 공유를 위한 신속한 전송이 필요하게 되었고 이러한 방법을 Science DMZ 환경에서 문제를 풀어 보고자 한다.

  • In recent mobile health care service, health management using number of steps is becoming popular. In addition, a variety of activity trackers have made it possible to measure the number of steps more accurately and easily. Nevertheless, the activity tracker is not popularized, and it is a trend to use the pedometer sensor of the smartphone as an alternative. In this study, we tried to find out how much the number of steps collected by the smartphone versus the actual number of steps in actual situations, and what factors make the difference. We conducted an experiment to collect number of steps data of 21 people using the smartphone and wearable device simultaneously for 7 days. As a result, we found that the average number of steps of the smartphone is 62% compared to the actual number of steps, and that there is a large variation among users. We derived a regression model in which the accuracy of smartphone increases with the degree of awareness of smartphone. We expect that this can be used as a factor to correct the difference from the actual number of steps in the smartphone alone healthcare service.

  • In recent years, social networks come into the spotlight as the important ways to find people or share information. Especially, existing social network services based on the Internet, such as Facebook.com and Cyworld.com, are now extended into the mobile environment. A mobile phone easily collects the personal information since it is carried by the user at all times, and various types of data can be gathered together with the advance of sensor technologies. These features differentiate the mobile social network services from the previous Internet-based services. In this paper, we estimate the user's mobile social contexts like closeness and relationship between the user and surrounding people using Bayesian networks. The mobile social contexts can be employed as important information for providing mobile social network services, and experimental results on real world data have verified their possibilities.

Politicians' YouTube Information Service Quality Impact on Politician Image and Trust and Voters' Social and Political Participation Intention (정치인의 유튜브 정보서비스 질이 정치인 이미지 및 신뢰와 유권자의 사회·정치 참여의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural relationship between politicians' YouTube information service quality, politician's image and trust, and voters' social and political participation intentions. To investigate this, 306 voters were sampled through an online survey. The quality factors of the politician's YouTube information service were found to have a positive effect on the image of a politician. Among them, timeliness and reliability had a positive effect on the trust of politicians, but playfulness did not. Both the image and trust of politicians through YouTube were found to have a positive effect on voters' intention to participate in society and politics. As a result of examining the indirect effect, it was found that the image of a politician had an indirect effect on the quality of information service and the intention to participate in society and politics. This study is significant in revealing that the fact that the image and trust of politicians is a major variable that appeals to citizens' social and political participation is also applicable to YouTube.

  • Currently, several research studies are looking to improve the quality of DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) based live streaming services. However, conventional DASH based streaming schemes cannot provide seamless playback while maintaining the low buffering and it adversely affects the QoE (Quality of Experience). To address this problem, we propose the QoE driven segment scheduling scheme. The proposed scheme adaptively schedules the segment request message according to the time and variation of segment fetching. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme improves the QoE of live streaming service by maintaining the low buffering delay and reducing the buffer underflow events.

VKH 데이터의 3차원 시각화를 위한 플랫폼 구현

  • 국가 과학기술 경쟁력 재고를 위하여 R&D기관에서 생성되는 연구데이터를 종합적으로 관리하고 서비스하는 데이터 관리/서비스 시스템의 개발의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 VKH (Visible Korean Human) 데이터를 3차원으로 시각화 서비스하는 플랫폼을 제안하고 구현한다. VKH 데이터는 사망과 동시에 급속 냉동한 인간의 신체를 0.2mm 간격으로 절단하며 촬영한 방대한 양의 실사 이미지 데이터베이스이며, 전통적인 생물학, 의학 분야의 연구뿐만 아니라, 현실감 있는 3D 이미지 구축을 위한 기반 데이터로 이용되고 있다. VKH 데이터 기반의 3D 데이터 시각화 플랫폼은 사용자 접근 편의성을 위하여 웹을 기반으로 구현되고, 트리 형식의 인체 구조 온톨로지와 연동하여 해당하는 인체 구성 요소를 체계적으로 관찰하는 기능, 사용자의 원하는 인체 구성 요소들만을 3D 화면에서 조합하고 관찰하는 기능, 위키피디아 백과사전을 참조하는 기능을 포함한다. 현재 인체의 머리 부분 3D 데이터를 대상으로 플랫폼이 구축되고 있으며, 향후 전체 인체를 대상으로 서비스할 예정이다.

A Case Study on Implementing Microservice Architecture in Steel Manufacturing MES (철강 제조 MES의 마이크로서비스 아키텍처 적용 구축사례 연구)

  • Recently, the application of microservice architecture has been increasing as information systems have shifted to cloud environments. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the case of applying microservice architecture to MES in the manufacturing field, summarize the results of how it was applied in practice, and find out the effects of the application. Based on the improvement project by applying microservice architecture to the existing steel manufacturing MES, 11 principles of microservice application were derived through literature research, and the implementation process and results were summarized according to these principles. In addition, through a comparison of systems in the service industry and the manufacturing industry, we investigated why the application of microservices was more active in the service industry and whether the application in the manufacturing industry can be expected to have the same effect. We also evaluated the results and changes in the overall system after implementation. In particular, we analyzed the SR (Service Request) processing status of users' requests for system changes and operators' requests to see how much the lead time was reduced. The results showed that 8 out of 11 microservice application principles were properly implemented according to the principles, but the remaining 3 were not applicable due to practical difficulties and organizational circumstances. Despite not following all of the principles, the project was able to be implemented without any problems, and the most noticeable change as a result of the microservices architecture was that the lead time was reduced by 9 days compared to the previous system. This proves that it is possible to quickly adapt to customer requirements, and it also proves that the system is more flexible and scalable than the existing monolithic system.

The Characteristics of Innovation Activities in the Service Sector (서비스 유형별 혁신활동의 특성 연구)

  • Over the last several decades, the service sector has experienced the rapid growth and will continue to grow in importance, stature and job creation potential. Productivity and innovation activities in the service sector have come under the spotlight as an important element of national economic development. Despite the spotlight, however, not many studies have conducted to investigate the characteristics of innovation activities in the service sector, compared to the rich literature on the innovation in the manufacturing sector. One of the distinguishing features of service innovation is that innovation activities differ markedly across services. Therefore, this research purposes to investigate the characteristics of service innovation focusing on the differences across service types. Here, we restrict our focus to technical innovation such as product and process innovation. For the purpose of investigation, firstly, the KIS (Korea Innovation Survey) dataset in the service sector was adopted, which includes information about patterns of innovation in the Korean firms that provide service offerings. Then, service typology was developed by two criteria - customize-based and facility-based - on the assumption that the characteristics of service innovation activities will vary according the these two criteria; the classifies services into four groups the patterns of innovation activities were analyzed with respect to innovation inputs, process, and outputs. The research findings indicate that each service group has its own patterns of innovation activities, providing valuable information about the state of affairs in service innovation, thereby are expected to help further study technology innovation activity in the service sector.

  • As information on gene sequences is not only diverse but also extremely huge in volume, high-performance computer and information technology techniques are required to build and analyze gene sequence databases. This has given rise to the discipline of bioinformatics, a field of research where computers are utilized to collect, to manage, to save, to evaluate, and to analyze biological data. In line with such continued development in bioinformatics, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) has built an infrastructure for the biological information, based on the information technology, and provided the information for researchers of bioscience. This paper analyzes the reference fields of Genbank, the most frequently used gene database by the global researchers among the life information databases, and proposes the interface method to NDSL which is the science and technology information integrated service provided by KISTI. For these, after collecting Genbank data from NCBI FTP site, we rebuilt the database by separating Genbank text files into the basic gene data and the reference data. So new tables are generated through extracting the paper and patent information from Genbank reference fields. Then we suggest the method of connection with the paper DB and the patent DB operated by KISTI.
