A Study on Perceptions of Scientifically Gifted Middle School Students about Engineering Design Process (중학교 과학 영재들의 공학 설계 과정에 대한 인식 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of scientifically gifted middle school students about their engineering design process according to gender and talent division. The instrument in surveying their perceptions about the engineering design process consists of 24 items (Likert 5 point type) five domains: problem definition, information collection and utilization, idea generation, inquiry performance, and teamwork (communication, cooperation, leadership). A total of 102 scientifically gifted students participated in the survey, according to gender (69 males and 33 females) and talent divisions (physics, biological sciences, software, mathematics, space-geological sciences, and chemistry). They had a high level of awareness of their engineering design ability. It is necessary to develop a customized gifted-education program so that their talent in their field of interest can be fully displayed according to the gender and talent division. In addition, the teaching and learning methods and strategies of the engineering design program for the scientifically gifted middle school students should be established to fully reflect the practical needs of the talented.

A Study on Learning Environment Design Model for Enhancing Creativity in Engineering Education (공학교육에서의 창의성 증진을 위한 학습환경 설계모형)

  • This study examines the possibility of a learning environment design model for enhancing creativity in engineering education. Recent studies about the online support system and the blended learning pertinent to creativity have provided us with some new perspectives on how to teach the creativity in engineering college. A learning environment design model was developed to enhance the creativity of the engineering students. A model was developed by following three steps: finding out the general principles for enhancing creativity in engineering education by reviewing the relevant literature; extracting the theoretical components for the model by categorizing the general principles; and finally, developing specific guidelines based on those theoretical components. Seven general design principles and three theoretical components could be identified, and a set of specific design guidelines was suggested. The result of this study is significant in terms of guiding the future development projects for creativity education.

Exploring the Perception of Integrated STEAM Secondary Teachers on Engineering Design (융합 인재 교육 경험을 가진 중등 과학 교사들의 공학적 설계에 대한 인식 탐색)

  • This study explores the perception of Engineering Design of teachers who have long experience in the Integrated STEAM education. The teachers participating in this study were 12 elementary and secondary teachers with more than five years of experience in the Integrated STEAM Education. The study conducted semi-structured interviews. Interview questions focused on experiences of Integrated STEAM Education and recognition of Engineering Design, whether or not to reflect the curriculum of Engineering Design, and actual cases of Integrated STEAM Education with Engineering Design. As a result of this study, the teachers who participated in this study recognized that 'identification and coexistence of concepts for science, technology, and engineering' about Engineering Design, 'Creative design is possible when creativity is added to Engineering Design', 'Engineering Design is to analyze the economic feasibility and utility of the output created through the creative design process', 'Engineering Design is only for students who choose a career in science and engineering'. Based on this research, We need to establish and present correct concepts for science, technology, and engineering, and make an effort to include Engineering Design for solving scientific problems in the curriculum. In addition, we will have to develop and spread the Integrated STEAM Education program including Engineering Design and apply it in the field. Through this, we will have to find concrete action plans to improve the perception of science and engineering Integrated STEAM programs and Engineering Design among novice teachers and preservice teachers.

  • 본 논문에서는 공학기술교육인증제에서 요구하는 종합설계 교과목의 수업운영 사례 분석을 통하여 효과적인 수업 개선방안을 제안한다. 종합설계는 학생들이 스스로 문제를 해결해 나가는 현장 실무능력을 키우기 위한 교과이다. 종합설계는 대부분 목표 및 약간의 제약조건, 평가 기준들을 포함하고 있다. (사)한국공학교육인증원 인증 기준은 8개이며, 교육과정 영역에서 종합설계 교과의 필수 개설 및 실질적 운영을 매우 중요시하고 있다. 컴퓨터멀티미디어과는 2011년 (사)한국공학교육인증원의 TAC 인증평가를 받았으며, 본 논문에서는 "SW공학적 종합설계" 교과의 수업 운영 실태 중심으로 컴퓨터공학 분야 종합설계 문제점과 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다.

A Study on Curricula Development to Accommodate Both Course-Based National Technique Qualification Program and NCS Based Certificate Program of Work and Study in Parallel: A Case on the Qualification of Mechanical Design Engineer (일학습병행제 NCS기반자격과 과정평가형 국가기술자격 연계 과정 개발 연구: 기계설계기사 자격 사례)

  • This study includes the possibility of organizing courses that can accommodate both NCS-based and course-based qualifications program in terms of contracting departments operating a college-based work and study in parallel system, examining and comparing differences between the two qualifications. Based on the case study of mechanical design engineer based on the job of machine design, curriculum that meets both composition regulation is developed. The author predicts future operational differences and problems and suggests several ways to overcome them. In conclusion, a few words have been added to modify the composition regulations to help the professional educational institute that simultaneously operates a work parallel system and a course evaluation type as to develop the field-oriented curriculum minimizing the gap between provider-centered education and consumer-centered qualifications, and maximizing the performance of training and education.

  • 본 연구에서는 초보자를 위한 프로젝트 기반 자바 프로그래밍 교육 컨텐츠를 설계하고 구현하였다. 특히, 컨텐츠 설계과정을 학생의 편의성을 고려하여 항해설계, 정보설계, 표현설계로 체계화하였다. 구현한 컨텐츠는 학생들이 직접 프로젝트를 개발하는 과정을 PDLC 단계로 진행함으로써 프로그램 개발 및 운영에 대한 핵심 소프트웨어공학 기법을 자연스럽게 습득하고, 실습 과정에 라이브 코드의 제공은 프로그래밍 기본개념 이해 증진 및 다른 프로젝트로의 응용을 향상시킨다.

A Study on Portfolio of Design Subjects (설계교과목의 포트폴리오에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, the interest in Accreditation of Engineering Education, which aims at facilitating the development of engineering education and producing the high calibre of graduates in engineering schools, is increasing. The accreditation requires the students to prepare a portfolio which shows the educational achievements from all courses at the university. In the portfolio, educational activities and outputs of the student are included as a part of the achievements. Particularly, in the portfolio of design-related courses, outputs of the design the student has made until the graduation are accumulated. The outputs enable others to measure the design capability of the student and can be used as important reference materials when applying for employment or graduate school. In this paper, I propose a format of the portfolio for practical exercise courses, engineering design, and undergraduate design and explain the ways of the utilization of the portfolio.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 공학에 대한 흥미, 태도, 성취가 낮은 여학생에게 공학 경험을 제공함으로써 공학 분야의 여성 인재를 양성할 수 있는 계기를 마련하기 위한 공학 중심 STEAM 프로그램의 틀을 설계하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 여학생의 특성을 분석하고 여학생 친화적인 환경을 구축하였으며 여학생 친화적 환경에 부합하는 e-textile이라는 도구를 활용하여 STEAM 교육 프로그램을 설계하였다. 교육 프로그램은 학습자가 직접 참여할 수 있도록 Learning by Doing, Learning by Design의 전략을 사용하도록 하였으며 교육 프로그램 전 과정을 학습자 스스로 창의적인 사고를 바탕으로 문제를 해결해나가도록 하고 교사는 조력자, 안내자 역할을 할 수 있도록 하였다.

Case Research on Educational Needs of Engineering Students about Program Outcomes(PO) (공과대학생들의 학습성과(PO)에 대한 교육요구도 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the information of decision making that can be used to improve curriculum of engineering education by surveying and analyzing that educational needs of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university' engineering students about program outcomes. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, it was found that engineering students surveyed valued much of the necessity of PO2(analysis experiment), PO3(design capability), PO6(teamwork) among program outcomes. In addition, it was found that engineering students surveyed thought their ability was low in PO3(design capability), PO4(problem solving), PO10 (knowledge of current events). Second, it was found that the order of educational needs about program outcomes was PO3(design capability), PO2(analysis experiment), PO1(knowledge application), PO5(practical ability), PO4(problem solving) which suggested that engineering students surveyed had high educational needs for engineering program outcomes. On the other hand, it was found that engineering students surveyed showed lower awareness of PO7, PO10, PO11 which had characteristics of humanities. It is necessary that systematic establishment of course completion system in basic design, element design and comprehensive design by giving weight to design education that aims to strengthen design capability should be made in curriculum of engineering education. It was found that there was considerable difference in educational needs about program outcomes especially in PO1(analysis experiment), PO4(problem solving), PO5(practical ability), PO6(teamwork) according to grade, gender and specialty and therefore this should be considered in designing curriculum. It is judged that operation of flexible education program should be arranged if learning achievement through regular curriculum Is limited.
