  • This study investigated the trends in the number of applicants and mean score and applicants' responses on the test items of 'science inquiry' of the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT) implemented for 3 years$(1999\;{\sim}2001)$. The results of this study were as follows: The percentage of applicants of science track for 1995 CSAT were 43.13%, but reduced to 29.5% for 2001 CSAT. And unlike other tracks, the percentage of male applicants, ranking above average, of science track was 65.58%, which is about twofold of female applicants(34.42%). The mean score of 'Science inquiry' was 58.6 in 1999, and 69.5 in 2001. And the score of the applicants, ranking above average, of humanity and social science course and science course, were 85.8 and 90.7 respectfully in 2001 CSAT. These high mean scores were caused by the policy of "easy CSAT" so called. Most of test items were developed to have difficulty 60-79% or above 80%. This easy CSAT provoked intense dispute about the discriminating power of CSAT. The mean score of male applicants was higher than that of female. But the difference decreases every year. Applicants were generally very good at solving tests focusing on process skills only but poor at solving tests related to physics or calling for two or more science concepts. Thus special measures to cope with the decrease in applicants, especially female applicants, for science track should be provided. To increase discriminating power of CSAT, it is recommended to develop test items with wider range of difficulty and to reduce test items which are focussing process skills and can be solved without any special science concepts. And special consideration should be given to teaching the content area with poor achievement and high actual difficulty compared to the expected.

  • Green tea leaves grown in Jeju island were harvested at different times in 2010 and 2011. Green teas harvested in 2010 experienced higher effective accumulative temperature than green teas harvested in 2011. The free and bound volatile compounds in green tea were analyzed using headspace-solid phase microextraction gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. All green teas contained the 6 major volatile compounds ${\alpha}$-methylbutanal, pentanal, (E)-2-hexen-1-ol, ${\beta}$-linalool, geraniol and ${\alpha}$-farnesene. After enzyme treatment, (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol, benzaldehyde, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate, ${\beta}$-linalool and geraniol were increased in all green teas. (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol increased significantly in green tea harvested in 2010, and benzaldehyde increased widely in green tea harvested in 2011. However, the total volatile compounds in green teas harvested in 2011 were remarkably decreased in comparison to harvested in 2010. It was confirmed that free and bound volatile compounds in green tea are affected by low winter temperatures.

  • Infectious diseases such as Ebola virus disease become a social issue and draw public attention to be a major topic on news or research. As a result, there have been a lot of studies on infectious diseases using text-mining techniques. However, there is no research on content analysis of two media channels that have distinct characteristics. Accordingly, in this study, we conduct topic analysis between news (representing a social perspective) and academic research paper (representing perspectives of bio-professionals). As text-mining techniques, topic modeling is applied to extract various topics according to the materials, and the word co-occurrence map based on selected bio entities is used to compare the perspectives of the materials specifically. For network analysis, topic map is built by using Gephi. Aforementioned approaches uncovered the difference of topics between two materials and the characteristics of the two materials. In terms of the word co-occurrence map, however, most of entities are shared in both materials. These results indicate that there are differences and commonalties between social and academic materials.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate secondary pre-service science teachers' misconceptions of tide and to develop a learning module that can change misconceptions into scientific concepts and to examine the effect of the learning module for conceptual change. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher developed the test tool of tidal phenomena and the learning module using cognitive conflict strategy. The subjects of this study were 40 first year students who majored science education at a college of education in G metropolitan city. The results of this study are as follows. First, secondary pre-service science teachers had various misconceptions about tidal phenomena. Second, the developed learning module was effective in changing misconceptions about tide of pre-service science teachers into scientific concepts. However, some students had misconceptions about tidal phenomena after learning the developed module. The typical misconception was that they could not distinguish the centrifugal force generated when the earth and the moon revolve about the center of common mass as the center of rotation and the centrifugal force generated by the earth's rotation. And they did not know that they should not consider the earth's rotation while the earth was revolving around the center of common mass.

  • This paper aims to describe the past character of art through Gadamer's interpretation of "End of the Art" thesis of Hegel. His interpretation also reveals that new art can demand a validity as a way of self-understanding that the art understands itself from its past. Hegel declared the end of art in his philosophical system. From Gadamer's perspective, it means that art has past character in the horizon of modern christianity-humanistic self-evidence (II). Then art understands itself as the past and demands its own validity. Gadamer sees that art cannot require common self-evidence which is clearly and universally understood by all in an age of "the end of self-evidence." And according to him, this requirement shows up in the phenomenon of anti-art in post-modernism(III). From his standpoint it is about time to demand new validity of art again and this requirement could be complied through hermeneutical self-understanding. Art exists as a self-understanding artwork in the cycle of understanding in which art understands itself as an understood past. As a play is played by players, artwork exists as participating spectators. This artwork does not demand a common understanding but exists through various understandings of spectators(IV).

  • The objective of this study is to re-examine the theory of Pansori (Korean musical storytelling genre) originating in Chinese tale-song literature. The said theory, first presented by Kim Hak-ju, succeeded in confirming the common points and association between Pansori and the Chinese tale-song literature, but failed to present the supporting ground for proving that Pansori originated in the said Chinese genre by comparing the contents of works and their performance type. In actuality, it was confirmed that the common factors of Pansori and the said Chinese genre naturally resulted from the performance situation where both genres should involve one singer chanting epics and simultaneously performing various roles and functions. In addition, it was confirmed that such identity of performance environment made the Pansori clown theory and the Gosagye tale-song(鼓詞系講唱) theory very similar. In addition, it was confirmed that, for one singer to present the wide spectrum of epic to the audience, the realistic description was the main part of literary style of both tale-song literature and Pansori, and furthermore it was revealed that, in the literary style of both tale-song literature and Pansori, the mixed use of time and temporal penetration were free. If a long performance of musical storytelling can be conceptualized in terms of 'tale-song' or 'oral epic', the Chinese tale-song literature and Pansori had similarity in the bigger frame of 'tale-song' or 'oral epic' and yet developed to have their own features.

  • The use of 16S rDNA is commonplace in the determination of prokaryotic species. However, it has limitations, and there are few studies at the genus level. We investigated conserved genes and metabolic pathways at the genus level in 28 strains of 13 genera of prokaryotes using the COG database (conserved genes) and MetaCyc database (metabolic pathways). Conserved genes compared to total genes (core genome) at the genus level ranged from 27.62%(Nostoc genus) to 71.76%(Spiribacter genus), with an average of 46.72%. The lower ratio of core genome meant the higher ratio of peculiar genes of a prokaryote, namely specific biological activities or the habitat may be varied. The ratio of common metabolic pathways at the genus level was higher than the ratio of core genomes, from 58.79% (Clostridium genus) to 96.31%(Mycoplasma genus), with an average of 75.86%. When compared among other genera, members of the same genus were positioned in the closest nodes to each other. Interestingly, Bacillus and Clostridium genera were positioned in closer nodes than those of the other genera. Archaebacterial genera were grouped together in the ortholog and metabolic pathway nodes in a phylogenetic tree. The genera Granulicella, Nostoc, and Bradyrhizobium of the Acidobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Proteobacteria phyla, respectively, were grouped in an ortholog content tree. The results of this study can be used for (i) the identification of common genes and metabolic pathways at each phylogenetic level and (ii) the improvement of strains through horizontal gene transfer or site-directed mutagenesis.

  • Traditional values refer to one's attitudes or perspectives developed by negotiating with oneself, others, society, world, nature and universe, which include thoughts on what is right, desirable, and what is dos and don'ts. The purpose of this study was to investigate values which Korean people traditionally emphasized, and their changes by epochal situation focused on the Choson Era. Also, this study intended to assist in finding values and meaning which should be passed down and manifested in contemporary society based on the study results. In this context, I select some positive values in the background of the Joseon dynasty. As traditional values or ethics in Korea destroyed and distorted going through the period of Japanese colonialism, all the existing social culture and traditional culture were denied, which resulted in vanishing common value which led community for several hundred years. The loss of common value caused community destruction and collapse, and made Korean people seek to survival, success and advancement in life as suffering from severe conflict of values. Experience of hollow state of mind caused by historical and cultural severance left distorted and degenerated values to Korea people, which made them pursue false values without realizing true meaning of traditional values. The true meaning of traditional values should be universal no matter how society changes, and could be milestone to contemporary people wandering aimlessly. Realizing and reconsidering the meaning of traditional values to found comtemporary values of Korean people by reflecting on history can produce significant results beyond age-old debate about East or West, and tradition or modernity.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the appearance patterns of the 'OOjok(family)' line, which is commonly used to abbreviate Korean and Chinese Neologisms, from 2010 to 2019, and to identify the structural and Meaningful similarities and differences of the 'OOjok(family)' line Neologisms. In terms of appearance, the Korean Neologisms of the 'OOjok' was constantly created for 10 years, and the Chinese Neologisms of the 'OOfamily' was not formed in 2017 but reappeared in small quantities in 2018 and 2019. Korean and Chinese Neologisms of the 'OOjok(family)' show differences in their structural characteristics. In the case of the most actively formed compound, the preceding elements of the Korean 'OOjok' Neologisms showed various etymological elements and types. However, the Chinese Neologisms produced by 'OOfamily' showed a limited linguistic aspect due to the active compound of native languages. Derivative also showed these differences. By Classifying 'OOjok(family)' line in Korean and Chinese Neologisms as meaningful qualities, they have different characteristics, but both of them were found to have accepted colorful culture and phenomenon in various areas, and new expression meanings as their precedence element. These diverse cultures appear to have influenced the creation of the new language.

  • This study attempted to analyze the achievement criteria of the 2015 special curriculum middle school physical education curriculum based on Bloom's new education goal taxonomy. To this end, 184 sentences based on the common curriculum and basic curriculum achievement standards of the relevant curriculum were analyzed into a total of 24 combinations of 4 dimensions of Bloom's new education goal taxonomy and 6 dimensions of cognitive courses. The results of the study are as follows. First, in the case of the special curriculum physical education and middle school achievement standards, unlike the analysis of the basic curriculum of elementary schools shown in previous studies, the 'procedural knowledge-applying' combination was the most common, and it was confirmed that there was a hierarchy by school level. In addition, the dimensions of knowledge and cognitive processes were relatively diverse, confirming the key points of physical education and middle school classes for disabled students. Second, in the case of the common curriculum among the lower curriculum, knowledge and cognitive process dimensions were relatively diverse except for cognitive process dimensions such as 'remember', and higher knowledge and cognitive process dimensions such as 'metacognitive knowledge' and 'creative'. Third, in the case of the basic curriculum among the lower curriculum, the 'procedural knowledge-applying' combination was excessively concentrated at 60.7%, which was analyzed to require improvementsary.
