  • Resonant column test huts been widely used as a primary laboratory testing technique in investigating dynamic soil properties expressed in therms of shear and Young's moduli and material damping. In thin Paper, dynamic Properties of typical Korean subgrade boils are investigated at shearing strains between 10-4% and 10-1% using Stokoe-type resonant column teat. The elastic threshold strains(yte) above which shear modulus and damping ratio are affected by strain amplitude, are defined at strain amplitude of about 10-3%. Below yte", small-strain shear modulus (Gmn) increases with confining pressure (Qc) as proportional to (Qe)0.61, and small-strain damping ratio(Dmin) ranges between 1% and 5.7%. Above yte, normalized shear modulus reduction curve(G/Gma. versus log strain) can be quite well expressed with Ramberg Osgood stress -strain equation and match well the curve suggested for sand by Seed and Idriss.riss.

  • In this paper, a novel coupled C type resonator is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator. Oscillator using proposed shorted coupled C type resonator is designed, it has improved phase noise characteristics. At the fundamental frequency of 9.8GHz, 4.87dBm output power and -84.7 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with shorted coupled C type resonator. Next, we designed voltage controlled oscillator using proposed shorted coupled C type resonator with varactor diode. The VCO has 33.8MHz tuning range from 9.7807GHz to 9.8145GHz, and phase noise characteristic is -115~-112.5dBc/Hz@100KHz. Due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

  • In this paper, a novel voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) has been presented by using the microstrip square multiple spiral resonator for reducing the phase noise of VCO. The microstrip multiple square resonator has the large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value, and has reduced phase noise of VCO. The VCO with 1.8 V power supply has phase noise of -115.0~-117.34 dBc/Hz @100 kHz in the tuning range, 8.935~9.4 GHz. When it has been compared with microstrip square multiple spiral resonator and coventional spiral resonator, the reduced Q value has been -32.7 dB and -57.6 dB respectively. This low phase noise VCO could ve available to a VCO in X-band.

  • The PLDRO(Phase-Locked Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) with low phase noise is designed for X-band. The phase of VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) is locked to that of a high stable reference oscillator by using a SPD(Sampling Phase Detector) to improve phase noise performance in the loop bandwidth. And, the VCDRO is implemented using a high impedance inverter coupled with dielectric resonator to improve the phase noise performance out of the loop bandwidth. This PLDRO exhibits the harmonic rejection characteristics of 51.67㏈c and requires below 1.95W. The phase noise characteristics are performed as -107.17㏈c/Hz at 10KHz offset frequency and -113.0㏈c/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency, respectively, at ambient. And the output power of 13.0㏈m${\pm}$0.33㏈ is measured over the temperature range of $-20 ∼ +70^{\circ}C$ .

  • A highly sensitive integrated photonic temperature sensor was proposed and developed incorporating a polymeric microring resonator. The change in the ambient temperature was estimated by observing the shift in the resonant wavelength of the resonator induced via the thermooptic effect. For the purpose of enhancing its sensitivity, the sensor was built by implementing a polymeric resonator exhibiting a high thermooptic coefficient on a silicon substrate with a small coefficient of thermal expansion. For the range of from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$ near the room temperature, the fabricated sensor yielded a sensitivity of as high as 165 ${\pm}/^{\circ}C$ and a resolution of better than $0.1^{\circ}C$. And its performance was found to be hardly affected by the variation in the refractive index of the target analyte, which was applied to the surface of the sensor. It is hence expected that the sensor could be integrated with other refractormetric optical sensors, thereby compensating for the fatal error caused by the change in the ambient temperature.

  • According to the seismic design criteria for structural buildings in Korea, the ground is classified into 5 types based on the average shear wave velocity measured from elastic wave tests on site and seismic load applied to the structure is estimated. However, elastic wave tests in site, however, on the engineering fill, cannot be performed during the construction period. Therefore, to evaluate shear wave velocity considering field conditions, resonant column (RC) and torsional shear (TS) tests are performed and compared with various elastic wave test results. As a result, if confining pressure for the tests using engineering fill are considered properly, we can obtain similar results comparing with those of elastic wave tests. In addition, by considering the effect of maximum shear modulus and confining pressure by RC/TS tests, n values shows typical values ranging from 0.434 to 0.561 so that utilization of RC/TS tests can be useful to infer shear modulus in field.

  • This paper is about the design of a small wide-band slot loop antenna, which consists of dual offset-fed and rectangular loop within the slot on a substrate. The proposed antenna is a novel structure generating a multi-resonances due to three geometrical resonance structures. The impedance matching of this antenna can be accomplished by changing the offset position of dual-fed at resonance frequencies. In this experiment, the slot of a fabricated antenna has a center frequency of 6.755㎓, 12.5mm${\times}$50mm in size and the rectangular loop has 10.5mm${\times}$27.5mm in size. The measured result is fractional bandwidth 63.21% with VSWR 2:1, which is agreed with the simulated result within 5% of error, and the maximum antenna gain is 7.42㏈i.

  • This Paper is an experimental study on the effective dielectric constant of microstrip line. To quantify the dispersive effects on a microstrip line, the effective dielectric constant, which is the ratio of free space wavelength to guide wavelength, is calculated for teflon substrates. The calculation is based on the Fourier transform of the current distribution on microstrip line. Measurements of effective dielectric constant using a microstrip elliptic resonator and ring resonator are also described. As a result, the computed values of effective dielectric constant agree almost all with measured values, using ring and elliptic resonator, in case of w/h or the ratio of microstrip width to substrate thickness equal unity over frequency range of 8 to 12GHz.

  • In this study, a random vibration technique to anaiyze the vertical vibration of rigid circular footings on sand whose material properties are not previously determind is proposed. Total of 11 circular model footings varing mass ratio and radius are constructed for the vibration experim eat and the elastic half space is represented by compacted sand layer From the random vibration experiments, it is found that the technique suggested in this study gives more accurate prediction of circular footing behavior under vertical vibration than the simplified analog which assumes the subsoils as elastic half space. The predicted resonant frequene iris agree very well with the measured values from the slnusoidal vibration experiments. The ratio of the predicted resonant amplitudes to the measured values vary between 0.5 and 1,35 for the site used for the vibration experiments in this study.

  • When solving the problems of electric power quality the converters with high Power factor are useful for the DC arc furnace power supply. In this paper, resonant converters of 50(60) Hz AC to DC arc described, where in each period of network voltage the capacitor and inductor of an oscillatory circuit are switched from series into parallel and vice versa parametrically. The duration of series and parallel connection and also the transformation ratio are dependent on load. Parallel oscillatory circuit restricts the short circuit current. These converters have high power factor from no-load to short-circuit and fit very well to supply are furnaces.
