  • The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of different nitrogen source and rate on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum which is known to be a noticeable fungus causing the wilt disease of both sesame and cotton in Korea. From the results of this study, It was known that different N source and rate markedly affect the growth of Fusarium oxyspsrum f. vasinfectum Among four N sourses were used in this study, nitrate-N and urea-N were appropriate N source for the growth of fungus. Above all, nitrate N was the best N source because it is utilized in more extensive range of concentration in comparison with the other N source by the fungus, On the other hand, ammonia-N is of little avail for the growth of the fungus because of the formation of unusual colonies with wavy margin and bead-like mycelial cells in addition to marked reduction of mycelial growth and B sporulation of the fungus irrespective of concentration. Judging from the formation of such an abnormal colony and bead-like mycelial cell which is known to be a characteristic of 'staling-type' growth of fungi, the effect of ammonia-N on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum is similar to that of phenoxy componnds on some other fungi previously investigated by some workers. Ammonium and nitrate also was not considered to be an appropriate source for the growth of the fungus because of the formation of colonies with slight wavy margin and appreciable reduction of mycelial growth and sporulation in higher concentration than 50meq. , although much or less masking of the irregularity of colony occurs. Therefore, ammonia N alone or any other N combined with ammonia N is of little avail for the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum.

  • This study aims to analyze the changes (2011→2021) in social and environmental factors, such as actual construction activities, including building development and officially assessed individual land price, of the areas that have been released from the park during the second national park area adjustment period (2010~2011) and compare them with those of the areas that retained parks in the same period to analyze the development impact. In the released area, a building has been constructed per 16,431 square meters since 2011. Moreover, both the number of floors and height of the building has increased, and it was analyzed that the class 2 neighborhood living facilities occupied the highest proportion of the building use. Officially assessed individual land prices increased by 42.3% in the released area and 38.6% in the retained area. The analysis by region showed that the officially assessed land price increased by 55.2% on average in both released and retained areas in Seoul and 9.4% in Gyeonggi-do, indicating a much larger increase in the Seoul region. The issue of private property rights in national parks was mostly resolved as they were released through the second national park area adjustment. However, the Korea National Park needs to promote the benefits of landowners by suggesting rational alternatives such as adjustments to the park zoning and facility planning.

  • As a part of study on prevention from aflatoxin contamination of food and agricultural products, the effects of chloroform extract of various vegetables on the growth and the aflatoxin production by Aspergillus parasiticus R-716 were investigated. Among 15 vegetables tested, garlic, zinger. radish and cabbage were effective in inhibiting the growth of the strain, but eggplant and lettuce slightly accelated. Even though mycelial growth was permitted, 4 vegetables inhibited aflatoxin production in the order of radish, zinger, crown daisy and cabbage, on the contrary, edible burdock and red pepper increased. Especially radish was shown to reduce the aflatoxin production per mycelial weight most. With the addition of chloroform extract equivalent 30g of raw radish on solid media of rice and barley, aflatoxin production of the strain was also inhibited about $80\%$ (484ug, 191ug) of that produced in the control (1796ug, l049ug).

  • Growth of Metarrhizium flavoviride var. minus and Hirsut lle strigosa showed good yield in the carbon source media adding dextrose, starch and saccharose, but Hirsutella sp. from korea greq well in the other media except in the dextrose media. Yeast extract was necessary for the mecelial growth of the fungi, but the fungi tested in this experiment showed a difference in the amount of required yeast extract. Growth of Nomurea rileyi was fastidious in the carbon and nitrorgen sourced media and the optimum pH of the media for growth was at 6.7. Sporulation of M. Flavoviride var. minus was high on media, containing 1%~2% of yeast extract as nitrogen and carbon source media, but N. rileyi sporulated abundantly on the media with nitrogen and dextrose.

  • Present work has been initiated to see if inherent biochemical difference among plants is, in any way, related to the observed selectivity characteristics of preemergence herbicide, alachlor. Application of aqueous solution of alachlor onto three intact plants, soybean, chinese cabbage and barnyard grass resulted in phytotoxicity responses in the testt plants in varying degree. Examination of glutathione (and homoglutathione) contents of the test plants indicated that the phytotoxicity is inversely proportional to the peptide contents of the test plants. It was also noted that four to five water soluble metabolites are readily formed in intact seedling treated with labelled alachlor and glutathionealachlor and homoglutathionealachlor conjugates were tentatatively identified as major metabolites. It is concluded that conjugation reaction involving glutathiones and xenobiotic alachlor, a typical phase II reaction, acts as detoxification reaction in the three test plants and this would, in turn, contribute to observed selectivity of alachlor.

  • The component and content of free sugar in mulberry fruits were evaluated. In all accessions, fructose and glucose were identified as the major free sugar. The ratio of two components appeared in the same level. But CV (coefficient of variation. %) of fructose and glucose were 23.6%, 23.4%, respectively. It might suggest that varietal variation exists in sugar contents. The mean of total free sugars were 9.11${\pm}$2.14%. Among the tested 49 accessions, ‘Geunanosang’ showed the highest total free sugars in 14.67%, whereas ‘Cheongsipyung’ showed the lowest total free sugars in 5.57%. Also fruity characteristics as well as total free sugars to select the desirable mulberry varieties for the production of fruit were researched and analyzed. From that results, four suitable varieties such as ‘Hwansipchosaeng’, ‘Junggojo’, ‘ Kaery-angchosaengsipmunja’, and ‘Geunanosang’ were selected.

  • A study on the competition-ecological classification of the 10 prominent paddy weed species around bulrush (Scirpus juneoides) to simplify the weed problem concept for the rice production. A serial assessments on the competition ability in space and dry matter production(nutrient depletion) of respective weed species and paddy rice, and the data were used to compute the phenotypic similarity by Single Link Clustering method. Both growth response of weed species in mono- and under the paddy rice standing was very similar (r = 0.969), but the reduction rate as affected by paddy rice standing was negatively correlated with the ability in space-competition(r=-0.513). Dendrogram of 10 weed species based on the phenotypic similarity computed in 4 characters in mono- and under the paddy rice standing was also similar, as Echinochloa c., Ludwigia p., Cyperus s., and Scirpus m. in I-group, Eleocharis k., Scirpus j, in II-group, and Juncus e., Potamogeton d. in III-group, respectively. Also, that of paddy rice to 10 weed species showed Fimbristylis m., Scirpus j., Eleocharis k., Scirpus m., Juncus e. in I-group, and Ludwigia p., Potamogeton d., Monochoria v. in II-group, respectively. The integrated dendrogram by the above two data indicate the I-group with Fimbristylis m., Scirpus j., Eleocharis k. and Juncus e., as higher growth response with relatively lower competition ability to paddy rice, II-group with Cyperus s., Echinochloa c., Potamogeton d., and Ludwigia p., as higher both in growth and competition, and the last, III-group with Monochoria v., and Scirpus m., as lower growth but higher competition, respectively.

  • An attempt was made to survey soybean cultivars that were nonsensitive to the photoperiod for selection as possible breeding materials for wide area adaptable varieties. Fifty-five cultivars were subjected to different day length conditions. The number of days from sowing until flowering was shortened under short day length conditions, and late varieties tended to be more sensitive to day length than early varieties. The response to day length of the tested cultivars might be divided into three groups; low, intermediate and high degree, by their accelerated rate of flowering. Especially four varieties in the low responding group, Gembokin, Wirth, Wayne and Pi.54613 were identified to be nonsensitive to day lengths, that is, neutral varieties. They also showed little variation in morphological characteristics under different day length conditions.

  • This study was conducted to investigate change of seed dormancy during storage in rice. The result of germination rate observed at different storage duration after harvest indicated that two Japonica rice varieties, Sangpungbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo, tow sare type local varieties, Jakwangdo and Mongeunsare, and a Tongil type rice, Samgangbyeo, showed no dormancy in rice seed harvested at 40 days after heading, However, weak dormancy was found in matured rice seed of Sobaekbyeo and Odaebyeo, and strong seed dormancy was found in Jungwonbyeo, IR-20 and IR-42. Rice seed stored for 30 days after harvest at 2$0^{\circ}C$ constant temperature or 25/15$^{\circ}C$ of day /night temperature fluctuation showed higher germination rate above 90% in all varieties tested. But germination rate of seeds stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 30 to 180 days showed varietal difference, higher in rice varieties having weak seed dormancy and lower in strong dormancy varieties. Days to 80% germination and average days for germination were shortened by storage for 30 to 180 days after harvest at 2$0^{\circ}C$, 4$^{\circ}C$ with RH 40% or day /night 25/15$^{\circ}C$ temperature condition in all rice varieties tested, but the degree of acceleration was lower at the condition of 4$^{\circ}C$ with RH 40%.
