  • This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of social withdrawal between adolescents' mobile phone dependence and the sense of community, and to secure the evidence data for adolescents' mobile phone dependence intervention. Among the 7th year data for the 4th grade students in the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), 1,979 students were included. The results showed that mobile phone dependence had a significant effect on the decrease in the sense of community and influenced the sense of community through social withdrawal. These results imply that positive intervention to reduce social withdrawal is needed and it can improve the sense of community in youth. Also, when we deal with weakening in the sense of community, we should consider convergent intervention in psychological and social aspects which deal with dependency, social withdrawal, and the sense of community.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of self-efficacy and community consciousness in the relationship between volunteer activity experience and career decision level of university students majoring in social welfare. For this purpose, this study set up a research model based on the social cognitive career theory based on Keumboltz's social learning theory and Bandura's social cognitive theory. 260 students majoring in social welfare at three four-year universities in Chungcheongbuk-do were assigned and surveyed from September to October 2019. The multiple regression analysis was conducted to verify the correlation analysis and the mediating effect using SPSS 26.0. The results of the analysis showed that the volunteer activity experience of college students majoring in social welfare had a significant effect on the career decision level, and self-efficacy and community consciousness had a partial mediating effect on these relationships. Based on the results of this analysis, the intervention and follow-up studies for improving career decision level of university students majoring in social welfare were discussed.

  • Virtual communities have been suggested to play important roles such as attracting customers, building customer loyalty, and leading to commercial transactions. Little research in marketing has focused on virtual communities in spite of its importance indicated by many practitioners and conceptual studies. More specifically, little research has empirically examined factors of customer participation and its consequences. This research investigate if customers' participation motives in virtual communities affect their sense of community and if sense of community affects customers' loyalty towards and purchase intentions from the website offering the community service. One hundred ninety six questionnaires were collected from individuals who have participated in and have been involved in online activities in various virtual communities. Major results of this research can be summarized as follows. First, participation motives employed significantly affected customers' sense of community and more specifically, perceived ease of use and perceived playfulness had a large influence on the customers' sense of community. Second, customers' sense of community positively affected their loyalty toward the community and more specifically, membership and emotional connection had a large influence on loyalty. Third, customers' sense of community did not affect directly their purchase intentions. Fourth, customers' loyalty toward virtual communities had a significant, positive, although marginal, influence on their purchase intentions.

To be used as the data of this study, children should have all information at 3-time points: the 5th grade; 6th grade; 7th grade. The collected data were analyzed with PSAW 18.0 and AMOS statistical program. The participants in this study were 903 males (51.6%) and 847 females (48.4%). The level of self-esteem was 3.29±.51, 3.19±.55, and 3.15±.57 point at 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th grade each. The level of community spirit was 3.12±.52, 3.09±.59, 3.15±.55 point respectively. • This study was conducted in order to investigate the structural relationship bewteen the learning participation motive effect on servant leadership in the church family ministry program and the sense of community. First, analyizing previous studies, a structural model was developed. Then, in the effort of verifying the structural model, 607 responses out of 700 questionnaires distributed into nationwide churches and institutes participating in church family ministry program were collected as target data. Informations on learning participation motive, servant leadership, and sense of community were collected through the questionnaires after the church family ministry program. In order to study the structural relationship between the servant leadership effect on learning participation motive and the sense of community, the collected data were analyzed according to structure equation model analylsis. As a result, the structural model this study suggested was found proper. Accordingly, it was verified that the sense of community carrying the effect of intrinsic and extrinsic motives, two of learning participation motives, affected servant leadership. Also, it was verified that the subfactors of the sense of community played important role in enhancing servant leadership in cause and effect relationship between learning participating motive and servant leadership. Therefore, in church family ministry program, it can be suggested that moderating sense of community under the consideration of participants' intrinsic and extrinsic motives makes moderating the level of learning participation motive possible.

  • Korea is characterized by a high R&D expenditure rate to the GDP. The performance of R&D in Korea, however, hardly seems to be satisfied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of strategic resources and community engineering on R&D performance in bio-tech industry in Korea. The results of the study show strategic resources and community engineering are determinants of technological outcome. The strategic resources have a Significant positive effect on economic impact whereas community engineering has no Significant effect. In addition, the study results reveal that there is no moderating effect of strategic resources on the relation between community engineering and R&D performance. The major limitations of the study are on the measure of the variables.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the community's capacity and hindrance factors affecting the community's activities by exploring the process of restoring the community's environmental pollution. This study examined the community activities related to the restoration of pollution that occurred at the former Janghang smelter in Seocheon-gun. The results of this study showed that leaders, cooperative resources, and the media were elements positively influencing the recovery of the community. The starting point that became the driving force for community activities was the presence of a leader who had a small stake in it. Moreover, it required cooperation such as the continuous interest of local active groups and residents to continue this effort. Above all, the media publicized the incident and amplified the activities of members. Meanwhile, there were various conflicts hindering the activities of local communities in the process of restoring the pollution such as the internal conflicts of community groups, conflicts between residents and active groups, and conflicts with the government. The behaviors that appeared in the process of restoring the pollution revealed a form of united governance. Moreover, they changed from an initial "supportive" character to "resistant" and "defensive" activities. Later, it was transformed into "subjective" and "creative" activities.

  • This study examined the effect of family cohesion and perception of age-friendly environment on sense of community and the mediating role of perception of age-integration in those relationships by regions. To that end, we used survey data collected from a nation-wide survey from adults who are aged 20 to 85 (N=1,200). ANOVA, structural equation models and bootstrapping mediation tests were conducted. The results showed that family cohesion and one sub-dimension of the age-friendly environment- social participation- increased sense of community in all three regions. Also, perception of age-integration partially mediated the relationship between family cohesion and sense of community in the Metropolitan areas and small cities as well as the relationship between social participation and sense of community in all three regions. Based on the results, authors discussed ways to increase family cohesion and social participation to enhance sense of community.
