  • In this paper we provide a teaching learning method for logic in debate, in particular, in debate of engineers. First we criticize the concept of argument and the Toulmin model on argument used in education for debate. We next provide a general method for learning arguments needed in debate. Finally, we suggest the hypothetico-inferential method and the model for inference to the best choice as argument methods coming in useful in debate education for engineers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the factors of cooking practice education environment, educational satisfaction, and preparatory behavior according to the social customized LINC+ fostering project. The study conducted a questionnaire survey using convenience sampling and analyzed using SPSS21.0. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that there were significant influences on educational programs, teaching ability, and cooking facilities, which are sub-factors of the cooking practice environment. Second, it was found that it had a significant effect on educational satisfaction and job preparation behavior. Third, it was found that it had a significant effect on the educational program and teacher ability, which are sub-factors of the cooking practice education environment. Lastly, through the results of the research, it is expected to provide basic data on policy, education environment, employment, and satisfaction in carrying out financial support projects in related majors. It is intended to provide evidence and implications.

  • This paper is to introduce a 9-step prewriting process based on the definitions of some terms after reviewing the process-based writing approach in view of the problem solving and the engineering design process. Discussion includes the descriptions of some terms for developing the steps, the evolving of the steps, the knowledges and strategies for applying the process, comparison of the process with problem solving approach, recommendation of the repeated practice of the process, and teaching of text level knowledges. The 9-step prewriting process is expected to make both learning and teaching of writing easier in engineering curriculum.

  • This study aimed to explore the change of engineering students' competencies through the havruta class. In the havruta class, engineering students' competencies were compared with pre-test and post-test. The research tool was developed by selecting learning readiness, academic self-efficacy, and communication ability as the learner's competence in the havruta class. Finally, 105 data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 for windows. First, there was a statistically significant difference in learning readiness. Second, there was no statistically significant difference in academic self-efficacy. Third, there was a statistically significant difference in communication ability. It was found that there was a positive change of competencies in learning readiness ability and communication ability in the havruta class. Although the findings are difficult to generalize to all majors, these results will be a useful basis for instructors who want to apply the havruta class.

  • The purposes of the study were to examine engineering students' concerns and problems while they were choosing a project topic in interdisciplinary collaboration and to suggest ways to support them in an early stage of collaboration phase. To answer the research questions, we conducted a case study with engineering participants in GCTI 2015, an interdisciplinary collaborative and creative group project. Multiple data sources including focus group interviews, online survey and researchers' observation notes were used to triangulate research findings. We found four main concerns of engineering students. These concerns include (1) lack of self-efficacy, (2) limited resources, (3) lack of shared, meaningful, and common goals, and (4) lack of content knowledge. Based on these concerns we proposed four supports in an early stage of the collaborative project. These supports includes (1) implementing an orientation program, (2) providing opportunities for social interactions, (3) providing expert feedback, and (4) providing consultation for team building.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction and needs of female students in Engineering with counseling male professor. Subjects of this study were 92 female students in Engineering from a university in K city. Results of survey showed that women students in Engineering were most satisfied with the usefulness of counseling and next with male professor's attitude as counselor. Counseling needs of female students in Engineering was highest on receiving concrete information on finding a job from counseling and next to it on understanding women students. Results of focus group interview and suggestions for the study in the future were presented respectively.

  • This paper reviews the general education curriculum in engineering colleges which are accredited or prepare to be accredited in Korea. And it researches the relation of the learning outcome of general education and course assessment. Most of engineering colleges usually operate core curriculum. They provided engineering students few specific general education courses if anything. Engineering students evaluated the outcome of the general education courses less than major courses. It is necessary to develop new general education courses for engineer like as the management for engineering students or leadership program Also the faculties teaching the general education courses need to develop new learning method and materials, which help students to achieve soft skills.

  • The purpose of this study is to draw implications through a case study on the curriculum operation of a professor who operated a programming subject as a PBL(project-based learning) method in an untact situation due to COVID-19. A survey was conducted for first-year freshmen students to determine their learning condition before project implementation. Based on the results of the questionnaire, individual interviews were conducted to identify the needs for education, and then, basic grammar for project completion and lectures that segmenting each stage of the project were composed. Repeated learning was induced through weekly quizzes, and feedback was given by giving time in advance until the project deadline. 23 students (40 students in total) completed the project. The remaining 17 students took the exam but did not complete the project. The purpose of this study is significant in that it investigated whether a project can be carried out through instructional design, execution, and interaction while operating a programming subject through PBL in the COVID-19 environment.
