  • The oyster mushroom cultivation house typically has multiple layers of growing shelves that cause the disturbance of air circulation inside the mushroom house. Due to this instability in the internal environment, growth distinction occurs according to the area of the growing shelves. It is known that minimal air circulation around the mushroom cap facilitates the metabolism of mushrooms and improves their quality. For the purpose of this study, a CFD analysis FLUENT R16 has been carried out to improve the internal environment uniformity of the oyster mushroom cultivation house. It is found that installing a section of the working passage towards the ceiling is to maintain the internal environment uniformity of the oyster mushroom cultivation house. When all the environment control equipment - including a unit cooler, an inlet fan, an outlet fan, an air circulation fan, and a humidifier - were operated simultaneously, the reported Root Mean Square (RMS) valuation the growing shelves were as follows: velocity 23.86%, temperature 6.08%, and humidity 2.72%. However, when only a unit cooler and an air circulation fan operated, improved RMS values on the growing shelves were reported as follows: velocity 23.54%, temperature 0.51%, and humidity 0.41%. Therefore, in order to maintain the internal environment uniformity of the mushroom cultivation house, it is essential to reduce the overall operating time of the inlet fan, outlet fan, and humidifier, while simultaneously appropriately manage the internal environment by using a unit cooler and an air circulation fan.

  • Biodegradation of toluene, styrene and hydrogen sulfide as model compounds of volatile organic compounds and odor from waste gas was investigated experimentally in a biotrickling filter. This study focussed on the description of experimental results with regard to operating conditions. The effect of varying $H_2S$ load rate and inlet concentration was investigated under autotropic and mixotropic environmental conditions. The $H_2S$ removal efficiencies of greater than 99% were achieved at $H_2S$ loads below $10g/m^3{\cdot}hr$ for each environment. It was observed that the maximum elimination capacity of mixotrophic filter was achieved a little greater than the one of autotrophic filter. The biofiltration of toluene and styrene in trickling bed was examined under different gas flow rates, load rates, and inlet concentrations. Below $40g/m^3{\cdot}hr$ of toluene loading, the elimination capacity and loading were identical and it was completely destroyed. In high loading of toluene, the biotrickling filter was operated at its maximum elimination capacity. In the inlet concentration of 0.2, 0.5, and $1.0g/m^3$, the maximum elimination capacity of toluene showed 40, 45, and $60g/m^3{\cdot}hr$, respectively. After a short adaptation period, it was demonstrated that the results of styrene in originally toluene adapted bioreactor was similar with the ones of toluene. However, the performance of filer for styrene is generally a little lower than for toluene. The operating conditions (including liquid flow rate etc.) allowing the highest removal efficiency should be determined experimentally for each specific case.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of ventilation corridor and derive adequate policy alternatives to its application for the city of Sejong, which is located in an inland of Korean Peninsula. In order to introduce the ventilation corridor in the city, it is necessary both to understand change on fresh air flow affected by the construction of new cities and to show its effects which are able to circulate air flow of the city. The study identified ventilation effects using computational fluid dynamics models. In particular, it analyzed change on wind speed and direction after constructing of a new town and cool air flow along the lowlands generated after sunset. In addition, it identified those of reducing particulate matter when arranging buildings conforming to the ventilation corridor at block level. The policy implications derived from simulation can be summarized as follows. First, it is desirable to plan ventilation corridors so that fresh air from mountains, forests, and valleys can flow into cities and mitigate the concentration of particulate matter. Furthermore, public facilities covering parks, plazas, and playgrounds should be installed preferentially to attract safe outdoor activities near to areas with low levels of particulate matter. Finally, it is adequate to prepare for a number of alternative plans by analyzing ventilation corridors when setting out district unit plan.

  • When the concrete surface layer is damaged, The method of impregnating the concrete surface with a water repellent cannot secure the expected durability. Recently, various waterproofing and water-repellent materials were mixed into concrete or mortar to secure water repellency even inside cracks, but compressive strength was greatly reduced. In order to overcome the decrease in compressive strength, there has not yet been a study using the merits of organic and inorganic materials at the same time, so in this study, the physical properties and water repellency performance were evaluated by mixing an organic/inorganic composite water repellent appropriately mixed with an organic and inorganic material into the mortar. When mixed with organic/inorganic water repellent, the flow and air content were reduced by about 10% and 50% compared to the Liquid specimen. In the case of the P6L1 specimen, it was confirmed that the compressive strength decreased by about 3.5% compared to the non-mixed mortar at 39.5 MPa, the same as the existing water repellent, Powder. Water-repellent performance The organic-inorganic composite water repellent mixture specimen confirmed higher water repellency than the existing water repellent mixture powder, and the chloride penetration resistance evaluation result showed that the organic-inorganic composite water repellent mixture specimen reduced the passing charge by about 45% compared to the non-mixed mortar. In summary, it is judged that the P5L1 organic/inorganic composite water repellent mixed with a powder water repellent and a liquid water repellent in a ratio of 5:1 is the most reasonable to prevent the decrease in compressive strength and secure water repellency.

  • It is about how much fine dust can be efficiently removed with respect to the electric dust collector used in factories and large facilities. The results of evaluating the fine dust removal efficiency are as follows. At 10,000 V, Efficiency method I showed 68.1 %, and Efficiency method II was 58.6 %, which was lower than that of Efficiency method I. At 5,000 V, Efficiency method I showed 57.6%, and Efficiency method II showed 51.6%, which was lower than Efficiency method I. At 2,500 V, Efficiency method I showed 50.3%, and Efficiency method II showed 24.4%, which was lower than Efficiency method I. In case of Efficiency method I, it is the efficiency calculated by using the dust concentration before and after passing through the filter. Efficiency method II calculated Efficiency method II to measure the efficiency a little more accurately in the environment where the air after the filter and the polluted air are mixed. Efficiency method II showed lower efficiency than Efficiency method I. As a result of the electrostatic precipitator test, the dust collecting performance was highest at 10,000 V, followed by 5,000 V and 2,500 V in that order.

  • Recently, there are quite a lot of attention is drown on the researches related to of Miller method applied high expansion cycle. For this study, high expansion cycles are formed and analyzed with the base view point of thermodynamics, and the features of each factors are also investigated. As a result of analysis, the expansion-compression ratio is expected with a decrease of effective compression ratio as intake valve closing time retarded, however, the decrease of mean effective pressure and its output is accompanied with the counterflow of intake air. Accordingly, as the consequence of such failure, it is expected that an alternative is needed for the realization of high expansion cycles, and the improvement over thermal efficiency. To materialize such cycle, the control system to delay the closing time of intake valve was designed and VVT, the 3 S/B low speed diesel engine, is applied to evaluate the efficiency. The result of the trial shows that there was no significant errors.

  • Coal combustion by-product (CCB) bottom ash, obtained from burning of pulverized coal, has physical properties which are similar to that of natural sand with particle sizes ranging from fine gravel to fine sand. Several studies have been completed to utilize pulverized coal combustion (PCC) bottom ash as a partial or full replacement of fine aggregate in cement concrete products. The objectives of this study were to develop air-entrained concrete composites using PCC bottom ash from burning of Illinois coal and to demonstrate the use of these composites on real-world projects. The results obtained show that the compressive, splitting-tensile, and flexural strengths of concrete composites is slightly lower than that of conventional concrete are early curing ages. However, after 60 days of curing, the strength of concrete composites is either equal to or slightly higher than that of an equivalent conventional concrete. The concrete composites showed lower resistance to chloride ion penetrability than that of an equivalent conventional concrete at early curing ages. However, after 28 days of curing, concrete composites showed better resistance to chloride ion penetrability compared to that of an equivalent conventional concrete.

  • Building demolitions at urban area make some inconvenience to neighborhood through generating noises, ground vibrations, and dusts. For this reason, various methods to control such environmental impacts have been being designed and practiced. Among the methods, the use of explosive demolition is rapidly increasing because it can minimize the inconveniency as well as decrease the working time and cost. In this respect, the old Sung-Nam city hall, which was a Rahmen structure comprised of beams, slabs and columns, was decided to be demolished by explosive demolition. This paper shows that explosive demolition can be the most suitable way of removing old buildings eco-friendly, safely, and economically by showing the observation results obtained from the actual demolition operation for the Sung-Nam city hall.

  • Human pharynx is unique, acting as a complex interchange between the oral cavity and esophagus, and between the nasal cavity and lungs. It is actively involved in the transport of food and liquid, producing the forces that guide that bolus into the upper esophagus and away from the adjacent larynx and lungs. This study intended to develop a biomechanical model of the human pharynx, utilizing Finite Element Method(FEM). Within each model changes in cross sectional intralumenal area were calculated and compared with the area from the computer-generated FE model. Area matching allowed estimation of intraluminal pressure gradients during swallow. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradient varies from one region to another. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradients showed different patterns for upper four levels and lower four levels. The contraction velocity for upper four levels is much higher than lower four levels. The higher contraction velocities and pressure gradients in the upper levels are consistent with the bolus velocities required for efficient swallow.

  • This study analyzed the recreational scuba diving regulations in Korea and other foreign countries and it proposes five changes to improve the Act On The Safety, Promotion, Etc. Of Underwater Leisure Activities in Korea. First, "recreational underwater activity participant" should be modified to refer to 'an individual or group of individuals entering into a contract with a recreational underwater activity businessperson for their own use'. Second, the person setting up the recreational underwater activity zone should be expanded to 'recreational underwater activity businessperson and/or recreational underwater activity participant'. Third, since recreational technical diving uses nitrox or mixed gas, a clause should be added that a sticker or band clearly indicating the type of gas should be attached. Fourth, a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) should be added to the diving equipment, and the daily management and maintenance of cylinders should be specified in detail. Fifth, it is necessary to specify in the Act that recreational underwater activity participants are encouraged to purchase diving insurance for their own use. In addition, for the safety of underwater activity participants, the Act must specifically state the emergency procedures and diving guidelines of a recreational underwater activity businessperson.
