  • 공기압 액추에이터는 자동화 생산라인 등의 다양한 산업분야에서 사용되고 있으며, 고장이 발생하면 전체 시스템에 막대한 손실을 야기 시킬 수 있는 부품이다. 그러나 기존 공기압 액추에이터에 대한 연구는 설계 관점에서의 연구나 특성해석 및 구동속도 등의 제어관점에서의 연구가 대부분이었으며, 실린더의 수명과 신뢰성에 대한 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 이와 연관하여 최근 공기압 액추에이터의 신뢰성에 대한 중요성 및 소비자의 요구수준이날로 증대되고 있으며, 최근 공기압 액추에이터의 수명분포 데이터를 분석과 가속수명시험 실시를 통한 수명분포 추정과 형상모수의 동일성 검정, 제안한 복합가속 수명시험 모델에 대한 유용성 검증 등의 연구와 ISO를 중심으로 규격화를 위한 활동이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 따라서 공기압 액추에이터에 대한 신뢰성 평가기법 및 가속수명 시험평가 기술에 대한 기술적 접근법을 소개하고자 한다.

Digital Positioning Control of Pneumatic Cylinder System with Elastic and Viscous Load (탄성 및 점성 부하시 공기압 실린더 시스템의 디지털 위치 제어)

  • For a model system consisted of four pneumatic cylinders with strokes of 10, 20, 40 and 80 mm, investigation was carried out experimentally and numerically about the reliability of system with elastic and viscous load. The elastic load affects the performance of each cylinder in cylinder series, and changes the time lag and the velocity of the piston which makes the positioning control rather difficult. Taking the effects of the elastic load into consideration, positioning can be carried out comparatively smoothly by only adjusting the driving timing. The effect of a viscous load reduces the vibration of each moving body in the cylinder series and also reduces the over-travelled distance which happens when several cylinders move at the same time. For reasons, a positioning with a viscous load can be relatively smoothly carried out even without the timing control.

Driving Characteristics of Pneumatic Cylinder with Relief Valve Cushion Devices (릴리프밸브 쿠션기구 내장형 공기압 실린더의 구동 특성)

  • This paper presents the meter-out and meter-in speed control characteristics of a pneumatic cylinder with relief valve type cushion device. The piston displacement and velocity are measured to investigate high speed driving performance with variation of the pressure setting in relief valve, air supply pressure, load mass, the supply and exhaust flow rate from the cylinder. Also, the internal pressures and temperatures driving pressure and cushion chamber are measured. The piston displacements and velocities of meter-out and meter-in control are compared experimentally determined data. A comparison experimental data meter-out and meter-in control show that a relief valve type cushion device is suitable for high speed pneumatic cylinders. The desired response characteristics of piston displacement and velocity are satisfactory adjust the pressure setting of a relief valve with varying system parameters such as air supply pressure, load mass and controlled flow rate.

Position Control of a Pneumatic Cylinder Considering Friction Compensation (마찰력 보상을 고려한 공기압 실린더의 위치제어)

  • The paper describes a technique that compensates a friction in pneumatic cylinder to perform the position control. The friction is one of the most common nonlinearities present in pneumatic actuating systems. For accurate position control and low velocity control, control strategies usually rely on accurate estimation of friction. This paper presents a observer to estimate the friction force in the pneumatic cylinder from the pressures in cylinder chambers. Also, the stiction compensation of a pneumatic cylinder is obtained by adding pulses to the control signal using impulsive control. The characteristics of the pulses in impulsive control are determined from the control action. The simulation results are proved that the method proposed here is effective.

The Friction Characteristics with Variation of Cross Section of Piston Seals for High Speed Pneumatic Cylinders (고속 공기압 실린더의 피스톤 실 단면형상 변화에 따른 마찰특성)

  • The paper deals with the design of a new low-friction seal for a pneumatic cylinder with high speed actuation. The seal performance with variation of the cross sections in piston seals with elastomeric material was investigated to minimize the friction forces using ABAQUS. The contact stress and strain distributions and frictional forces of the piston seals were investigated with variation of interference fits, supply pressures and friction coefficients. To develop adequate and productive procedures, the finite element models of the piston seals were created and nonlinear analysis of a seal design was conducted in order to build further knowledge and understanding of the seal's performance characteristics.

  • Pneumatic cylinder meter-out driving apparatus is used widely because it is clean, lightweight, and can be easily serviced. In this study an estimation method of energy consumption for pneumatic cylinder meter-out driving apparatus is proposed. The proposed method is derived from state equation and energy equation of air, and, the equation of motion of a moving part of a pneumatic cylinder reflecting the characteristics of the meter-out driving. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by simulation study and it demonstrates that the proposed method can evaluate the energy consumption quickly and easily when the parameters of the driving apparatus are changed.

  • Pneumatic actuators are clean, lightweight, and can be easily serviced, whereas low energy efficiency has been considered as a critical shortcoming compared with corresponding hydraulic and electrical actuators. This study describes a new design method of pneumatic cylinder driving apparatus by lowering a supply pressure. The simulation study demonstrates that the designed system with the proposed method can operate at the smaller energy consumption state compare to the designed system with the conventional method for the specified working conditions.

  • In this study, a linearized model of pneumatic cylinder position control system including transmission line is proposed. The transmission line using compressible fluid has a nonlinear transfer characteristics because that the frequency response of it is changed by the flowing state of the fluid. But, when the pressure difference between both sides of transmission line is low, the effect of resonance characteristics of it under high frequency range can be neglected because of the friction force and low pass characteristics of the position control system. Therefore, the transmission line can be modeled by second order transfer function and the natural frequency, damping ratio and gain are changed by the diameter and length of it. The effectiveness of the proposed model is proved by comparison of simulation results using proposed model with experimental results and simulation results using conventional model.

  • A method for the position control of a pneumatic cylinder using a linearized controller is proposed. Pneumatic cylinder has highly nonlinear characteristics and modelling of the system has been difficult. Compliance of the pneumatic cylinder is materially changed according to the operating position. So, in the case that fixed gain controller obtained by a linearized model at a specified position is used, response of the cylinder should be changed according to the operating position. In order to get a designed results regardless of operating positions, a controller for compensation of the nonlinear characteristic with a linearlization compensator is designed and simulation results show that this method is appropriate for the control object.
