An Experimental Study for performance evaluation of a ceramic heat exchanger (세라믹 열교환기의 성능 평가를 위한 실험적 연구)

  • 대부분의 산업분야에서 사용되는 공업로는 연소 시 $1000^{\circ}C$이상의 고온 배기가스가 배출되고 있기 때문에, 이들 배기가스로부터 폐열을 회수하여 에너지를 절감하고자 열교환기를 사용하고 있다. 하지만 현재 사용되고 있는 금속 소재의 열교환기의 경우 사용온도가 $800^{\circ}C$로 제한되어 있으며, 산화, 부식, creep등의 문제가 대두되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 세라믹 소재의 열교환기를 제작하여 열전달율, 공기누설율등을 평가하는 성능실험을 하였다. 실험방법은 연소시작 후 정상상태에 도달하기까지의 경향을 알아보고 공기유량과 가스유량에 변화를 주었을 때, 열전달율과 공기누설율등을 평가하고 이론적인 데이터와 비교하였다. 실험 결과, $1300^{\circ}C$이상의 환경에서도 정상적으로 작동하였으며, 외부환경조건을 고려하였을 때, 이론적인 데이터와 근접한 데이터를 얻을 수 있었다. 그러나 대류열전달에 의한 열손실과 공기누설등이 문제점으로 지적되었다. 향후 연구에서는 대류열전달에 의한 열손실을 고려한 연구와 효과적인 씰링으로 누설을 줄일 수 있는 실험장치를 개발할 필요가 있다.

Numerical Analysis on Flow Characteristics in the Pressurized Air Supply Smoke Control System (급기가압 제연설비의 내부 유동특성에 대한 수치해석)

  • This study investigated the pressure difference distribution and the flow characteristics among room, ancillary room, and stair case by carrying out the numerical simulations on the air flow inside the pressurized air supply smoke control system. Numerical simulations were conducted to analyze pressure and velocity distribution of compartments by pressurized air supply for the air-leakage test facility which was built to measure the effective leakage area. In this study, the leakage of air was considered by locating the narrow slit onto fire door and window of room. Simulated results using this method precisely followed the previous experimental results for the pressure differences between the stair case and ancillary room. Predicted results showed that the local leakage of air rarely affected the overall flow pattern and pressure distribution. Although the average velocity over the door between room and ancillary room satisfied the regulation for fire safety, it was certified the unsafe outflow to ancillary room could be occurred in the local position such as the upper part of the door.

  • This is an experimental study to identify the performance of air-to-air rotary heat exchanger with polyurethane foam matrix. The experimental apparatus including heating AHU(Air Handling Unit), cooling AHU, sensor chamber, and heat exchanger testing unit was designed and manufactured in this study. The performance of heat exchanger with porous polyurethane foam matrix was tested with variations of the density and the thickness of matrix, regulating the wind velocity and the rotational speed of matrix. The actual heat recovery effectiveness, air leakage rate, and pressure drop of heat exchanger were measured and analyzed.

신뢰도 기반 정비를 위한 기기 고장 데이터 분석

  • 국내 원전에 신뢰도 기반 정비(RCM : Reliability Centered Maintenance) 기법을 도입하기 위해 수행하고 있는 영광 1,2호기 시법계통 RCM 분석에서 관련 기기의 고장데이터를 RCM 분석 방법론에 따라 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 작업의뢰서와 작업보고서 기록내용을 토대로 지배적인 고장모드 및 다빈도 고장발생 기기를 파악하여 고장원인을 분석하였으며, 기기 유형으로 분류하여 고장들을 분석하였다. 분석결과 지배적인 고장모드는 EPRI에서 분류한 고장모드에 모두 포함되었으며, 고장빈도가 높은 기기의 고장원인은 운전환경, 사용유체, 운전형태, 기기 형식 등에 따라 고장메커니즘이 다르게 나타나는 것으로 분석되었다. 기기 유형으로 분류하여 고장모드별로 고장율을 분석한 결과 미국의 Generic Data(IEEE Std 500-1984)와 근소한 차이를 보이거나 약간 낮은 것으로 분석되었으며, 고장율이 높은 기기 유형을 단위 기기별로 세분화하여 분석한 결과 공기구동 조절벨브의 외부누설 고장율은 1.10E-06 이지만 충전유량 조절밸브의 고장율은 1.70E-05로서 약 10배 정도로 고장율이 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 기기별로 세분화한 고장을 분석 결과는 시범계통 RCM 분석시 고장모드 영향분석(FMEA. Failure Mode and Effective Analysis) 단계에서 필수기기를 선정하는 하나의 인자로 활용하였으며, 고장율의 역수로 구한 고장간 평균시간(MTBF:Mean Time Between Failure)은 정비주기 선정시 기초데이터로 활용된다.

Field Cooling Tests of Paddy Stored in Steel Bins with a Grain Cooler (곡물냉각기를 이용한 철제 원형빈에서 벼 냉각)

  • Two field cooling tests were conducted to evaluate the cooling characteristic of paddy with a prototype grain cooler. The first test was carried out during summer season in a steel bin with 180.3ton of paddy at Sunchon. And the second test was carried out during harvesting season in a steel bin with 272.2ton of paddy at Ulsan. At the first test, initial paddy temperature of 23.6$^{\circ}C$ was dropped to 14$^{\circ}C$, and initial moisture content of 19.9% was dropped to 19.3% after 52.5 hours of cooling. At the second test, initial paddy temperature of 16.1$^{\circ}C$ dropped to 5.5$^{\circ}C$ after 78.0 hours of cooling. And, at the first test, the average air flow rates of chilled air leaving the grain cooler and penetrating the grain layer were 77.5 ㎥/min and 42.5 ㎥/min, respectively. To prevent leakage of chilled air from plenum chamber of steel bin, which was about 45% of the average air flow rates of chilled air leaving the grain cooler, a proper method was required. The average total power consumption at the first test during summer was 22.1 ㎾ with control of fan damper. At the second test, it was 17.4 ㎾ due to controlling the capacity of compressor with unloading solenoid valve and changing the flow rates of hot refrigerant gas flowing into evaporator and reheater from compressor, resulting in 27% reduction of energy consumption.

  • U. S. NRC Regulation Guide 1.52 regulating ESF ACS in nuclear power plants has been revised to revision 3. To apply reduction of operability test time, allowance of alternative challenge agents for in-place leak test of HEPA filters, and upgrade of Methyl Iodide penetration acceptance criterion in activated carbon performance test suggested in Reg. Guide 1.52(Rev.3) on Yonggwang units 5 and 6 ESF ACSes, technical feasibility study was carried out with on-site experiments as well as experiments with a lab-scale model. It was confirmed that the moisture in the system returned to the level before the test in 1 or 4 days even though the moisture was removed during the operability test lasting more than 10 hours. Therefore, it is appropriate to perform monthly operability test in 15 minutes just long enough to check the operability of equipment. To change challenge material for in-place HEPA filter leak test, size of aerosol, production rate, and leak detection capability were compared for DOP and PAO. It was concluded that PAO can be substituted for DOP in nuclear power plants. The upgrade of Methyl Iodide penetration acceptance criterion from 0.175 % to 0.5 % in active carbon filter bed deeper than 4 inches was to conform to the change of activated carbon performance test method to ASTM D3803(1989). It was confirmed that Methyl Iodide penetration acceptance criterion of 0.5 % under $30^{\circ}C$, relative humidity 95 % condition was conservatively good enough for testing performance of active carbon insitu. The licence change of Yonggwang units 5 and 6 has been completed based on this study.

  • SOFC 발전시스템의 상용화를 위해 선행되어야 할 것은 스택의 안정적 출력 및 신뢰성 확보이다. 이를 이루기 위해서는 스택을 구성하는 구성요소의 신뢰성 있는 규격 및 검수가 필요하다. 즉, 셀, 밀봉재, 분리판 및 집전체로 대변되는 구성요소들이 스택에 장착되었을 때 그 기능을 최대한 발휘하면서도 점진적 또는 급격한 품질저하가 발생되지 말아야 한다. 특히, 셀의 경우 스택의 성능에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 구성요소로서 품질에 대한 명확한 검수기준이 필요하다. SOFC용 셀은 다공성 anode, 치밀한 전해질, 그리고 다공성 cathode로 구성된 세라믹 소결체이다. 이 때 치밀한 전해질에 결함이 내재되어 있거나 물리적 힘에 의해 신규로 발생할 경우, 연료로 사용되는 수소와 공기가 만나는 cross-over가 발생하게 된다. Cross-over는 연료가 소모되는 문제도 있지만 발열로 인한 Hot spot을 형성시켜서 주변과의 온도구배를 유발하고, 이로 인해 고체 전해질의 균열전파를 일으킬 수 있고 나아가 급격한 셀의 파괴를 야기할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 SOFC에 사용되는 셀의 형상측정, 물리적 강도 및 결함 검출을 위한 검수기법을 개발하여 스택의 신뢰성 향상과 향후 규격표준화를 위한 기반을 제공하고자, 평판형 셀의 3차원 형상을 정밀하게 측정하는 장치와 일정 면압을 인가하여 특정 형상을 갖고 있는 셀의 물리적 파괴여부를 판단할 수 있는 장치, 그리고 셀의 전해질에 내재된 결함을 검출할 수 있는 장치를 제작하였다. 본 장치들은 $1,000cm^2$급 평판형 셀까지 검수할 수 있도록 고안하여 양산시스템에 접목시킬 수 있도록 고안된 것이다. 본 장치들을 이용한 검수결과, 현재 $700cm^2$급 평판형 셀의 경우 최대 camber가 4mm 이하, 전해질의 He leak rate는 $5{\times}10^{-5}mbar.l/s.cm^2$ 이하라는 검수규격을 본 연구소에서 운전하는 스택에 1차적으로 적용하였으며 현재 검수규격의 신뢰성 및 강화를 위한 연구를 수행 중에 있다.

Numerical Simulation on Smoke Movement in Multi-Compartment Enclosure Fires under Pressurized Air Supply Conditions (급기가압 조건에서 복합 구획 공간 화재의 연기 거동에 대한 수치해석 연구)

  • This study examined the flow characteristics of fire smoke under pressurized air ventilation conditions by carrying out fire simulations on multi-compartment enclosure, including room, ancillary room and stair case. Fire simulations were conducted for the air-leakage test facility, which was constructed to measure the effective leakage area and aimed to improve the understandings of fire and smoke movement by analyzing the overall behaviors of fire smoke flow and pressure distributions of each compartment. The simulation results showed that the heat release rate of the fires was controlled sensitively by the amount of air supplied by the ventilation system. An analysis of the velocity distributions between the room and ancillary room showed that fire smoke could be leaked to the ancillary room through the upper layer of the door, even under pressurized air supply conditions. From these results, it was confirmed that the fire size and spatial characteristics should be considered for the design and application of a smoke control system by a pressurized air supply.

Optimum Monitoring Parameters for the Safety of Mechanical Seals (미캐니컬 씰의 안전운용 감시를 위한 최적 계측인자)

  • The mechanical seals, which are installed in rotating machines like pump and compressor, are generally used as sealing devices in the many fields of industries. The failure of mechanical seals such as leakage, crack, breakage, fast and severe wear, excessive torque, and squeaking results in big problems. To identify abnormal phenomena on mechanical seals and to propose the proper monitoring parameter for the failure of mechanical seals, sliding wear experiments were conducted. Acoustic emission, torque, and temperature were measured during experiments. Optical microstructure was observed for the wear processing after every 10 minute sliding at rotation speed of 1750 rpm and scanning electron microscopy was also observed. Except for the initial part of every experiment, the variation of acoustic emission was well coincided with torque variation during the experiments. This study concludes that acoustic emission and torque are proper monitoring parameters for the failure of mechanical seals. The intensity of acoustic emission signals is measured in root mean square voltage. Temperature of sealing face will be used as a parallel parameter for increasing the reliability of monitoring system.

A study on the air leakage performance improvement of duct coupling for temporary ventilation of long subsea tunnel (초장대 해저터널의 공사중 덕트 접속부의 누풍 성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The construction of long sub-sea tunnel does not provide the favorable condition for the installation of ventilation system to be used during construction due to the constrained construction space. For the ventilation system required during construction, the artificial island where ventilation shaft is located is constructed at some location along the sub-sea tunnel route, which requires a high construction cost. Therefore, it is intended, as much as possible technically, to minimize the construction of artificial island. However, this requires a longer distance between ventilation shafts, there-by causing increased air leakage at the ventilation duct connection points due to the higher fan pressure being required to deliver ventilation air. Previously the air leakage was studied as an important issue. In this study experiments were carried out to develop the improved duct connection method considering various conditions such as, tunnel length, etc. Additionally, its performance results with leakage rates are shown and compared to the "S" class leakage rate of SIA. As a result, the new duct coupling type of improved method is analyzed as applicable to such a 30 km long tunnel with the leakage rate of $1.46mm^2/m^2$, which is better performance than SIA leakage rates.
