Study on a Demand Volume Estimation Method using Population Weighted Centroids in Facility Location Problems (시설물 입지에 있어 인구 중심점 개념을 이용한 수요 규모 추정 방법 연구)

  • This paper is to discuss analytical techniques to estimate demand sizes and volumes that determine optimal locations for multiple facilities for a given services. While demand size estimation is a core part of location modeling to enhance solution quality and practical applicability, the estimation method has been used in limited and restrict parts such as a single population centroid in a given larger census boundary area or small theoretical application experiments(e.s. census track and enumeration district). Therefore, this paper strives to develop an analytical estimation method of demand size that converts area based demand data to point based population weighted centroids. This method is free to spatial boundary units and more robust to estimate accurate demand volumes regardless of geographic boundaries. To improve the estimation accuracy, this paper uses house weighted value to the population centroid calculation process. Then the population weighted centroids are converted to individual demand points on a grid formated surface area. In turn, the population weighted centroids, demand points and network distance measures are operated into location-allocation models to examine their roles to enhance solution quality and applicability of GIS location models. Finally, this paper demonstrates the robustness of the weighted estimation method with the application of location-allocation models.

  • Overpopulation has been one of the most serious problem of the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA), which consists of the City of Seoul, Incheon, and the whole of Gyeonggi Province. People have been still moving into SMA, especially being concentrated into the fringe of Seoul. This study examines the inner city decline phenomenon of SMA which can be easily found in large cities over the world, based on the demographic data of these area. In addition, this study monitors the imbalance in growing of SMA by analyzing RMI (Rank Mobility Index), and the inverse relation between the self sufficiency of the adjacent area and the commuting rate to Seoul by analyzing commuting data. Even though the total population has been unchanged, the internal change of population was substantial. The growth of Seoul Metro region was placed near the city of Seoul, especially commuter data reassured the population concentrations. The results will be useful in urban planning and growth management.

  • Using GIS, animal clinic's spatial distribution characteristics were analyzed. Animal clinic location data was collected through the Internet's Open API service. Approximately 4,100 animal clinics are operated in South Korea in 2011. And 47 % of these are located in the Seoul area. Population, especially female population and apartment resident's ratio affects the location factor of the animal clinic. The number of 25~44 year-old woman and animal clinics are high correlation. In the animal clinic location, distance from the road is more important than the distance of the metro.

  • In 2008, the Development Impact Fee Zoning has been newly amended and added to the existing National Territory Planning Act. Since the beginning of 2009, many local governments nationwide started to adopt the law as a powerful tool to prepare the prescirbed masterplans for the installment of adequate infrastructure and to procure the financial resources to realize the plan. The study, in this context, tried to build gridded population data and analyzed the population cells that exceed the legal criteria of population increase rate required by the law over the case area of Sooyoung-Ri in Hwasung City. The study further probed to group the selected population cells in five specified increasing steps on which the alternative impact fee zones are built. Throughout the process, the study could properly set a reasonable impact fee zone and suggested a practical examples of the final zone specification applicable by the localities.

A Study on the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis of the Distribution of Longevity Population and the Scale Effect of the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem(MAUP) (장수 인구의 분포 패턴에 관한 탐색적 공간 데이터 분석과 수정 가능한 공간단위 문제(MAUP)의 Scale Effect에 관한 연구)

  • Most of the existing domestic studies to identify the distribution of longevity population and influencing factors oriented confirmatory approach. Furthermore, most of the studies in this research topic simply have used their own definition of spatial unit of analysis or employed arbitrary spatial units of analysis according to data availability. These research approaches can not sufficiently reflect the spatial characteristic of longevity phenomenon and exposed to the Modifiable Aerial Unit Problem(MAUP). This research performed the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA) to identify the spatial autocorrelation of the distribution of longevity population and investigated whether the modifiable areal unit problem in the aspect of scale effect using spatial population data in Korea. We used Si_Gun_Gu and Eup_Myeon_Dong as two different spatial units of regional longevity indicators measured. Then, we applied Getis-Ord Gi* to investigate the existence of spatial hot spots and cold spots. The results from our analysis show that there exist statistically significant spatial autocorrelation and spatial hot spots and cold spots of regional longevity at both Si_Gun_Gu and Eup_Myeon_Dong levels. This result implies that the modifiable areal unit problem does exist in the studies of spatial patterns of longevity population distribution. The demand for longevity researches would be increased inevitably. In addition, there were apparent differences for the global spatial autocorrelation and local spatial cluster which calculated different spatial units such as Si_Gun_Gu and Eup_Myeon_Dong and this can be seen as scale effect of MAUP. The findings from our analysis show that any study in this topic can mislead results when the modifiable areal unit problem and spatial autocorrelation are not explicitly considered.

Analysis of Changes in Urban Spatial Structure for Balanced Urban Development (도시균형발전을 위한 도시공간구조 변화 진단)

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose urban spatial structures using spatial modeling techniques for balanced urban development as part of sustainable urban growth management. Since urban spatial structure is an interaction of various activities, it is necessary to interpret the analysis results in conjunction with the analysis of changes in spatial structural elements. In this study, population and transportation were approached for research purposes. Population data were applied to the Getis-Ord Gi* method, a spatial statistical technique, to analyze the concentration-decreasing region of the population. Traffic data analyzed the trend of centrality change by applying commuting traffic O-D data to Social Network Analysis techniques. The analysis showed that urban imbalance was growing, and the centrality of transportation was changing. The results of the analysis of spatial structure elements could be interpreted by linking the results of each factor to each neighborhood unit, predicting changes in urban spatial structure and suggesting directions for sustainable urban growth management.These results could also be used as a decision-making tool for various urban growth management policies introduced to cope with rapid urban development and uncontrollable development in many cities around the world.

Determinants of Homicide Locations Using Spatial Regression Analysis (공간회귀분석을 활용한 살인사건 영향요인 분석)

  • This study is to examine the impact of spatial characteristics of cities on homicide based on spatial econometric model. It selects housing types, racial heterogeneity, residential instability, overcrowding, commercial area, rate of 15 to 29 ages, and rate of the elderly as variables for spatial characteristics of cities. This study employs spatial regression analysis applying the spatial error model to analyze the data from 229 locals collected from Korean Statistical Information Service and Statistical Year Book of local governments. As a result, it shows that homicide has close relationships with apartment and multi-housing as housing types, racial heterogeneity, residential instability, and overcrowding, but not with the commercial area, rate of 15 to 29 ages, and rate of the elderly. The study contributes to expanding understanding and explanation on the causes of homicide focusing on social-structure approach for criminology by analyzing a more advanced model in applying variables than one of existing literature. This study suggests follow-up research on homicide based on both social-behavior approach and social-structure approach in the near future for the development of criminological theory.

Locational Effect of Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail on Urban System and Urban Scale Economies (고속철도역 입지의 도시시스템 및 도시경제 변동효과)

  • 본연구의 목적은 경부고속철도역의 입지가 도시간 인구분포와 도시경제에 미치는 영향을 분석하 는 데 있다. 인구분포 결정식의 추정결과를 토대로 하여 고속철도의 건설에 따른 도시시스템의 변화를 살펴보면 대도시내 인구분산화가 이루어지면서 대도시와 중소도시간 인구불균등은 심화될것으로 예상된 다. 고속철도의 역사가 입지하는 도시의 경제활동이 증가한 점을 감안하면, 향후, 서울 , 대구, 부산등의 도시경제 수준은 상대적으로 열악해 지고 천안과 대전은 고속철동역 유치로 인하여 도시성장 기반을 구 축할 수 있을 것이다. 지역개발차원에서 수도권 남부지역에 고속철도역을 입지시켜 서울의 중추기능을 분산시킬 필요가 있다. 고속철도 개발을 통해서 수도권 남부지역을 중심으로 도시권이 형성되어 수도권 내 2대 공간체계가 개발된다면 서울도시권에 대한 기존의 개발압력을 줄이면서 수도권내 남부도시권은 천안 및 대전과 연계되어 광역적인 개발이 가능할 것이다.

  • A analysis on the spatial features is required for exploratory spatial data analysis of information about space location(population ecological factor, social ecological factor) to manage the store factors, the service industry, etc. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide correlation analysis method between the types of service trade using dependence between spatial objects on the geographical space and statistical correlation and to analyze the spatial features through the deduction of correlation analysis between the types of the neighborhood trade area.
