The Relations between Children's Fraction Operation Skills and Error Types on Constructed-response items (서술형 평가 문항에서 나타나는 초등학생의 분수 연산 능력과 오류 유형과의 관계)

  • This study examines relations between the 5th graders' fraction operation skills and error types on constructed-response items. As results, first, the participants have lower fraction operation skills on 'multiplication of fraction' than 'addition and subtraction of fraction'. Second, the participants have different error types depend on their constructed-response items. Most of error types which group with high ability made was 'leap of solving process', both groups error type with medium ability as well as low ability is 'misunderstanding of questions'. Third, the operation skills on 'addition and subtraction of fraction' have an influence on their operation skills on 'multiplication of fraction', and error types of 'understanding of questions' and 'understanding of solving process' have the most effects on the influence.

An Analysis of Third Graders' Understanding of the Properties of Multiplication by Elementary Mathematics Instruction (곱셈의 연산 성질을 강조한 초등 수학 수업에 따른 3학년 학생들의 이해 분석)

  • Along with the significance of algebraic thinking in elementary school, it has been recently emphasized that the properties of number and operations need to be explored in a meaningful way rather than in an implicit way. Given this, the purpose of this study was to analyze how third graders could understand the properties of operations in multiplication after they were taught such properties through a reconstructed unit of multiplication. For this purpose, the students from three classes participated in this study and they completed pre-test and post-test of the properties of operations in multiplication. The results of this study showed that in the post-test most students were able to employ the associative property, commutative property, and distributive property of multiplication in (two digits) × (one digit) and were successful in applying such properties in (two digits) × (two digits). Some students also refined their explanation by generalizing computational properties. This paper closes with some implications on how to teach computational properties in elementary mathematics.

Development of cloud-based multiplication table practice application using data visualization (데이터 시각화를 적용한 클라우드 기반 곱셈구구 연습 애플리케이션 개발)

  • The COVID-19 outbreak, which took longer than expected, caused considerable damage to students' basic academic ability in mathematics. In this paper, a multiplication table practice application that can help students improve their basic multiplication arithmetic skills has been developed based on a cloud-service. The performance of the application was improved by integrating the Flutter framework, Google Cloud, and Google Sheets. As a result of applying this application to 72 6th graders in elementary schools located in K Metropolitan City, for one week. students' spending time required for solving multiplication table problems was reduced by more than 28% compared to the initial period, while students' learning data was able to be accurately collected without errors. It is hoped that the development case conducted through the Flutter framework in this study can lead to the development of other educational learning applications.

New Simple Power Analysis on scalar multiplication based on sABS recoding (sABS 형태의 스칼라 곱셈 연산에 대한 새로운 단순전력 공격)

  • In cryptographic devices like a smart-card whose computing ability and memory are limited, cryptographic algorithms should be performed efficiently. Scalar multiplication is very important operation in Elliptic Curve Cryptosystems, and so must be constructed in safety against side channel attack(SCA). But several countermeasures proposed against SCA are exposed weaknesses by new un-dreamed analysis. 'Double-and-add always scalar multiplication' algorithm adding dummy operation being known to secure against SPA is exposed weakness by Doubling Attack. But Doubling Attack cannot apply to sABS receding proposed by Hedabou, that is another countermeasure against SPA. Our paper proposes new strengthened Doubling Attacks that can break sABS receding SPA-countermeasure and a detailed method of our attacks through experimental result.

  • Multi-precision multiplication over public key cryptography should be considered for performance enhancement due to its computational complexity. Particularly, embedded device is not suitable to execute high complex computation, public key cryptography, because of its limited computational power and capacity. To overcome this flaw, research on multi-precision multiplication with fast computation and small capacity is actively being conducted. In the paper, we explore the cutting-edge technology of multi-precision multiplication for efficient implementation of public key cryptography over sensor network. This survey report will be used for further research on implementation of public key cryptography over sensor network.

Skemp's Activities and It's Effects on Area of Operations in Elementary Mathematics (초등학교 연산능력 신장을 위한 Skemp 활동과 효과)

  • The purpose of this paper is to find out the full extent of abilities of elementary students on area of operations and the effects on student's affective domain toward mathematics, after providing 3rd grade students with Skemp's play activities instead of providing activities suggested in the textbook of 7th curriculum. For this study, we will first analyse new elementary mathematics curriculum of 3rd grade and then explore mathematical factors for play activities related to operational sections. The play activities are revised from that of Skemp's for our classroom circumstances, but the ideas included from Skemp's such as thinking aloud were not changed. The experimental group while consists of 39 students were taught Skemp's play activities instead of usual textbook activities for 30 hours for the second term. In all other area, both the experimental group and the comparative group were taught the same contents. Statistical data is as follows 1) In addition and subtraction, the experimental group had 5.6% higher score than the comparative's, but the difference of mean of the both groups is not significant within 5% level. 2) In multiplication and division, the experimental group had 7.8% higher score than the comparative's and also the difference of mean of the beth within 5% level is significant. 3) When measured the effects in affective domain, the interests, attitude, and values for mathematics had about 10% higher score after the experiment than before the experiment. So we conclude that Skemp's activities are more effective than the activities suggested in the textbook on the area of operations, especially in multiplication and division.

Fostering Algebraic Reasoning Ability of Elementary School Students: Focused on the Exploration of the Associative Law in Multiplication (초등학교에서의 대수적 추론 능력 신장 방안 탐색 - 곱셈의 결합법칙 탐구에 관한 수업 사례 연구 -)

  • Given the growing agreement that algebra should be taught in the early stage of the curriculum, considerable studies have been conducted with regard to early algebra in the elementary school. However, there has been lack of research on how to organize mathematic lessons to develop of algebraic reasoning ability of the elementary school students. This research attempted to gain specific and practical information on effective algebraic teaching and learning in the elementary school. An exploratory qualitative case study was conducted to the fourth graders. This paper focused on the associative law of the multiplication. This paper showed what kinds of activities a teacher may organize following three steps: (a) focus on the properties of numbers and operations in specific situations, (b) discovery of the properties of numbers and operations with many examples, and (c) generalization of the properties of numbers and operations in arbitrary situations. Given the steps, this paper included an analysis on how the students developed their algebraic reasoning. This study provides implications on the important factors that lead to the development of algebraic reasoning ability for elementary students.

  • This paper proposes an efficient decimation filter structure in programmable down converter for software radio. The decimation filter consists of the cascaded integrator-comb(CIC) filter, a compensation filter for CIC, cascaded comb and modified halfband filters, and programmable FIR filter. Since the compensation filter is used in CIC, the passband drooping is compensated and stopband attenuation is improved. Therefor the more decimation can be implemented in CIC filter. The compensation filter in CIC reduced the computational complexity of other decimation filters and the coefficients of PFIR, thereby achieving a significant hardware reduction over existing approaches. We can reduce the multiply operator by 20% in hardware and operation by 50% as compared with PDC of Harris.

  • 옛날부터 계산을 잘하는 것이 수학적으로 우수하다고 생각해왔으며, 거의 1900년까지도 교육을 받았다는 것은 계산할 수 있다는 것을 의미하였다. 초등학교의 대부분의 시간은 덧셈, 뺄셈, 곱셈, 나눗셈을 배우는 데 투입되었다. 현재에도 초등학교의 교육과정은 기본 교육에 중점을 두어 3R's(reading, writing, arithmetic)을 강조하고 있으며, 많은 교사나 학부모들은 계산능력에 대해 지대한 관심을 가지고 있다. 1970년대의 '새 수학' 운동으로 계산력이 약화되었다는 비난이 쏟아지자 '기본에 충실하자(Back to basic)'는 운동으로 계산이 강화되기도 하였다.(중략)

  • Because the existing Skemp's play activities learning has only been done on the offline, the hassles of learning paper production, the understanding of achievement levels, and the difficulty of feedback and compensation have been pointed out as a serious problem. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop web-based learning tool applied the Skemp's play activities for elementary school students who learn mathematical skills easily in the web environment. To demonstrate the effectiveness of implemented web-based learning tool, we have analyzed questionnaire survey conducted for academic achievement of the third grade elementary school students. The analysis results show that for improving the ability of multiplication and division operation, the learning using web-based tool applied the Skemp's play activities is more effective than the learning based on the existing educational process and the result is statistically significant at the 5% significance level.
