  • The purpose of this experiment is for investigating how much the amino acid liquid fertilizer and composted liquid manure, culture microorganism effect on the breeding of grasses and knowing the extent of the thatch content through an analysis of the soil. For testing about soil chemical, the quality of grasses, and the extent of the thatch content in the soil, we cultivated 6 kinds of microorganisms having the effect of thatch dissolution and sprayed these 6 microorganisms with composted liquid manure and the amino acid liquid fertilizer on the place Creeping bentgrass have planted. This conduction started from June to October, 2012 and 2013 (The interval: 2 weeks). In the result of the turf growth, there is no big difference between soil chemical and trace element. And we can know Leaf Color Index, Chlorophyll Index and Root Length are almost same as among treatment. In conclusion, the mixing fertilization of culture microorganism and composted liquid manure is better effective than the traditional fertilization. And it can be expected the effect of the quality of grass and Thatch decomposition in soil.

  • As SCB liquid fertilizer (SCB) produced from or out of livestock manure by slurry composting and biofiltration process was applied in golf course, the effect on soil properties and water quality was little investigated. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the SCB liquid fertilizer application on environment by monitoring chemical property of soil and water quality of pond as applied chemical fertilizer (CF) and SCB. SCB application rarely contaminated the soil and pond in golf course and decreased organic matter, CEC and Ca in soil and pH and T-N for water quality of pond. In correlation coefficient between soil property parameters, water quality parameters and water quality items, SCB applied in golf course decreased organic matter and CEC in soil and increased SAR in water quality (P<0.01). Nitrogen applied in golf course with SCB or CF was significantly related to T-N in the soil (P<0.01), but not significantly related to T-N in the pond water. These results showed that SCB application little contaminated soil and pond in golf course, and was expected to control of thatch in soil and algae in pond.

  • The purpose of this study are to investigate the reasonable maintenance expense of golf course according to the size and management system of each golf course. The maintenance cost per hole per golfer of 29 golf courses and the maintenance cost for items and locations of 8 golf courses were analyzed. 1. As golfers per hole increased, maintenance cost per hole per golfer decreased. 2. The decisive cost factors for maintenance cost of golf course are the number of annual golfers, the total course size, the management system, and automation of course facilities. 3. Maintenance cost of golf courses contained the landscaping areas except for building and parking lots is $869^{\}/_{m^2}$ Korean won. 4. Average maintenance cost of 8 golf courses is $44,325,000^{\}/_{hole}$. 5. Labor cost marked the largest portion in the total cost. Among the items of labor cost, repair cost for green ball mark was the highest with the ratio of 26%(\4,163,000). 6. Material cost for Fairways which reaches 30% of the total area was composed of $22%{\sim}44%$ of the total cost of materials. Cost of imported fertilizers, pestcides for insects and diseases, and sands for top dressing was the highest. 7. Material cost for Green which reaches 2% of the total area was composed of $28%{\sim}36%$ of the total cost. Cost of imported products such as particle-shaped fertilizers, micro mineral fertilizers, and soil conditioners was the highest. 8. There is no difference in cost between chemical fertilizers and the environmentally friendly fertilizers even if environmentally friendly fertilizers using microorganism or chitosan materials are also expensive.

  • High salt concentration is one of the most important limit factor on plant growth at a disused saltpan for golf course construction site. The control of salt in soil is definitely required and the monitoring of salt concentration in soil and ground water also required to amend soil physiochemical properties. This research was carried out to monitor the pH and salt concentration changes by the height of ground water. By the physiochemical analysis test, the soil contains a high salt concentration and classified as a slight alkaline clay soil. The height of ground water table changed to 1.3m, 3.3m and 2.8m at dry season(mid-late June, 2005), monsoon season(early-mid July) and after monsoon(late July), respectively. Compare to the average ground level of 2.9m, the ground water was over flooded about OAm at monsoon season. The electrical conductivity(ECe) was measured above $4.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ over all areas and however, some areas showed over $20dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. During a monsoon season, ECe was lowered to $1.2{\sim}15.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, compared with those of the dry season. Therefore, the interception of the capillary connection between planting layer and ground water which contains high salt concentration should be adapted when golf courses are constructed on disused saltpan. The phytotoxicity caused by salt damage may be controled by the interception of capillary fringe of salt flow to the topsoil profile at the upper layer of the ground water table.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the offsets of pyroligneous acid on the growth of ‘Penncross’Creeping Bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) and to propose the practical use for ecologically responsive management in Korean golf courses. In the plots affected by 300, 500, and 800 times diluted pyroligneous acid, the turfgrass growth increment and the visual quality were measured at fixed periods. The data were subjected to paired samples T-test. The results summarized are as follows; 1) In leaf growth increment, density, and root spread depth, turfgrass affected by 500 and 800 times diluted pyroligneous acid were superior to the control continually. It was reliable in the statistics. Especially, 500 times diluted solutions was superior to the others. 2) In color, texture, uniformity, and recuperative strength, the visual quality of turfgrass affected by 500 and 800 times diluted pyroligneous acid were superior to the control continually. It was reliable in the statistics except the recuperative strength. Espe-cially, 500 times diluted solutions tended to be superior to the others. 3) There was no symptom of a disease in all plots. The existing management was thought to be suitable in this golf course. 500 and 800 times diluted pyroligneous acid were not thought to trigger or promote a disease, 4) After investigating the effect of pyroligneous acid on turfgrass growth, the soils of all plots were analyzed. In all plots, the chemical properties of the soils were not changed obviously. 5) Considering the results mentioned above, the practical use of 500 and 800 times diluted solutions might decrease the amount of nutrients and agricultural chemicals used in golf courses as well as promote turfgrass growth in golf courses.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the mixed ratio of the soil amendments, peat, humate, peatmoss and zeolite, on the soil physicochemical properties. The mixed ratios of soil amendments were 0%, 3%, 5%, 7% and 10% (v/v) incorporated with sand which met to the USGA (United State of Golf Association) recommendation. It was measured pH, EC and CEC as a chemical properties. Porosity, capillary porosity, air-filled porosity, bulk density and hydraulic conductivity were also measured to analyze the changes of physical properties. Chemical properties were significantly different by mixture ratios of peat, humate, peatmoss and zeolite. When the results were applied to the USGA standard of the soil physical properties, the optimum mixture ratios of peat, humate and peatmoss were 5%, 3% and 7%, respectively. Air-filled porosity was factor involved in soil physical properties by blending with soil amendments and it was affected on volume of porosity and hydraulic conductivity. To analyze the corelation of mixture ratio versus to physical characters, the ratio of peat and peatmoss was significantly related to capillary porosity and hydraulic conductivity (P<0.05), that of humate hydraulic conductivity (P<0.01), and that of zeolite air-filled porosity and volume of porosity (P<0.05). These results could be used as a basic data for construction USGA sand green.

  • Much of the coal ash by thermal power plant has gradually been increased, however researches on the recycling of bottom ash has not been investigated enough so far. In this research, the lysimeter test was conducted to find out the possibilities of bottom ash as soil amendment to improve the physiochemical properties of sandy topsoil of turfgrass in golf course. The turfgrass growth test and leaching test were conducted on the lysimeter. The lysimeter columns were manufactured with various topsoil mixing ratios of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 50% of bottom ash with sand. As a result of leachate analysis through the lysimeter column, the higher ratios of bottom ash mixed affect significantly on water holding capacity of topsoil sand media with decreasing of the percolation rate. The results of leachate analysis in every three days interval, the pH of leachate increased with the bottom ash ratios, but the volume of $NO_3$-N, $NH_4$-N and K decreased significantly. However, the level of EC of leachate had constantly maintained. These results indicate that the application of bottom ash may improve turfgrass growth with water holding capability and fertility of sandy topsoil. However, the negative effects of the bottom ash also evaluated by reducing water permeability and solubility of $PO_4$-P by adsorption into soil particles. The results indicates that the reasonable mixing ratio of the bottom ash as soil amendment should be less than 20% (v/v) with sand which has a low water-holding and fertility in golf course topsoil layers.
