Factors Related to Bone Mineral Content Among Adolescents in Seoul (서울시 일부 청소년의 골질량 관련요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to bone mineral contents (BMC) at os calcis of adolescents. The subjects were 604 students (327 boys and 277 girls) between 7th and 9th grade in Seoul, Korea. The mean age was 14.2 ${\pm}$ 0.9 years. General characteristics were collected by a questionnaire, bone mineral contents (BMC) were measured in os calcis by Duel Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (PIXI, General Electronics, USA) and height and weight were measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis method (Inbody 4.0, Biospace Co. Ltd, Seoul, Korea). Mean BMC of os calsis were 2.241 g. Height (p <.0001), weight (p <.0001I), BMC (p <.0001I) ofboys were higher than those of girls. Percent body fat of girls, however, was higher than that of boys (p <.0001). Anthropometric measurement, pocket money, sibling, experience of fracture, pubertal stage, intake of supplements, physical or outdoors activity, and eating habit had significant influence on BMC of boys. Anthropometric measurement, physical or outdoors activity, and eating habit had significant influence on BMC of girls. Multivariate regression with adjustment for sex and age showed that BMC was associated positively with height, BMI, frequency of regular activity, and intake of spinach or radish leaves (all p <0.05), and negatively with percent body fat (p <.0000 and Korean traditional diet pattern (p = 0.01). On the basis of these results, it is recommended to develop nutrition education and physical activity program for adolescents to improve BMC and prevent osteoporosis.

Correlation analysis of sodium-related knowledge, dietary behavior, attitudes towards a low-salt diet and meal attitude guidance for elementary school teachers in Jeonbuk area (전북지역 초등학교 교사의 나트륨에 대한 지식, 나트륨섭취 식행동, 저염식 태도 및 식생활지도와의 관계 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify teacher's knowledge about sodium, dietary behaviors related to sodium, attitudes towards a low-salt diet, and meal attitude guidance as well as examine the relationship between these variables. Methods: The participants were 351 teachers at an elementary school in the Jeonbuk area. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, Duncan test, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS v. 20.0. Results: The score for teachers' knowledge about sodium was 12.92 points of a possible 16, the score for dietary behavior related to sodium was 46.85 points of a possible 70, and the score for attitude towards a low-salt diet was 33.63 points of a possible 50. Their score for meal attitude guidance was 59.95 points of a possible 80. The knowledge showed significant differences by hypertension drug (p < 0.05) and stress level (p < 0.05). The dietary behavior of sodium use showed significant differences by gender (p < 0.01), work experience (p < 0.05), BMI (p < 0.01), drinking (p < 0.05), concern about health (p < 0.05), and stress level (p < 0.05). The attitude towards a low-salt diet showed significant differences by gender (p < 0.05), marital status (p < 0.05), work experience (p < 0.05), drinking (p < 0.05), concern about health (p < 0.001), and stress level (p < 0.05). Meal attitude guidance showed a significant difference by marital status (p < 0.001), age (p < 0.001), work experience (p < 0.001), drinking (p < 0.01), regularity of health checkup (p < 0.001), concern about health (p < 0.001), and stress level (p < 0.05). There was a low positive correlation between knowledge about sodium and dietary behavior related to sodium as well as between dietary behavior related to sodium and attitudes towards a low-salt diet. Attitudes towards a low-salt diet showed a positive correlation with meal attitude guidance. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to consider educational programs on increasing knowledge and attitudes towards a low-salt diet in teachers for improvement of meal attitude guidance activities for students.

Combined Exercise in Premenopausal Women Effects on Body Composition and Bone Mineral Density (복합운동이 폐경 전 성인여성의 신체조성 및 골밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze changes in body composition and bone mineral density (BMD) during combined exercise in premenopausal women who did not take regular diet or regular physical activity within 6 months, In addition to being able to recognize the importance of pre-menopausal women's health and exercise, it also provides basic data for the development of educational programs for early prevention of osteoporosis prevention education I want to. The average age of the subjects in their 30s was 35.44 years and their height was 158.89 cm in their 30s. The average age of the subjects in their 40s was 41.89 and their average height was 160.78 cm in their 40s. Body composition, BMI, and body fat percentage were higher in the 30s, and bone mineral content, lean body mass, skeletal muscle mass, body weight, body fat mass and waist circumference were higher in their forties. Lumbar spine BMD and femur density were higher in their 30s than their 40s. Body composition, skeletal muscle mass, and fat mass increased in the 30s body composition by age - related complex exercise in premenopausal women, body fat mass, body fat percentage, waist circumference decreased. Body mass, body fat, body fat percentage, and BMI decreased in the 40s. The lumbar spine, the lumbar spine, the lumbar spine, and the femur were increased in the lumbar spine, the lumbar spine, the femur, and the femur. In the post-analysis results, changes in body composition were statistically significant due to decrease in muscle mass, body weight, body fat mass and BMI after combined exercise.
