  • The most important problem in NC machining of a freeform mold surface is removal of tool interference. In this paper three methods are introduced to remove self-intersection on offsetted freeform surface for 3-axis NC. All methods are using intersectional offset curves on original offset surface. The fast method is sequential loop check using two lines which have two neighbor points of intersectional offset curves.

  • This paper proposes a method for obtaining blend surfaces between machining data of surfaces. This blending algorithm consists of trangation, detection, tracing, construction of blend surfaces, and generation of machining data for the blend surfaces. Inpus of the algorithm are a blend radius and machining data of surfaces to be blended. CL data as well as CC data can be applied as an input machining data of the algorithm.

  • 근래에 들어, 금형생산 시간의 단축과 고정밀도의 제품을 생산하기 위해 실가공전의 설계단계에서 금형 데이터를 수치적으로 검증할 필요가 높아지고 있다. 기존의 저가형 CAM시스템에서 사용된 경로표시법으 로는 이러한 검증이 불가능하기 때문에 새로운 방법의 도입이 필요하며 모의가공 형상의 표현에서도 비매 개변수형 곡면을 이영하는 방법이 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구는 3축 금형가곡에 사용되는 볼앤드밀, 평 엔드밀 공구에 대해 Z-map을 기반으로 절삭부위를 비매개변수형 곡면으로 모델링하여 모의가공을 수행하 고자 한다. 또한, 새로운 backeting영역지정 방법을 사용하여 모의가공의 효율을 높였다.

  • The Accuracy of a free-form artifact is affected by machine tool errors, machining process errors, environmental causes and other uncertainty. This paper deals with methodological approach about machine tool errors that are defined the relationship between CMM and OMM inspections of the free-form artifact. In order to analyze the measurement data, Reverse engineering was used. In other words, Surface of Free-Form Artifact is generated by NURBS surface approximation method. Finally, Volumetric error map is made to compare surface of CMM data with that of OMM data.

  • This paper presents an efficient real-time tool-path planning method for interpolation of NURBS surfaces in CNC machining. The proposed tool-path planning method is based on an improved iso-scallop strategy and can provide better precision than the existing methods. The proposed method is designed such that tool-path planning is easily managed in realtime. It proposed a new algorithm, for regulation of a scallop height, which can efficiently generate tool-paths and can save machining time compared with the existing method. Through computer simulations, the performance of the proposed method is analyzed and compared with the existing method in terms of feedrate. total machining time and a degree of constraint on the scallop height.

점 데이터를 이용한 블레이드 곡면 모델링 시스템 개발 (Development of Blade Surface Modeling System Using Point Data)

  • Stationary and rotating blades can be found in a steam turbine generator and the airfoil shapes of these blades can be defined by point data from an aerodynamic design system. The main design process of blades is composed of two steps: first, the blade surface is modeled with the point data; and then, the section data is generated which contains composite curves with line segments and arcs for CAE of the blade. The surface is modeled by a curve-net defined by the point data, which may be extended to obtain the section data to model the blade. This paper presents methods for automating the above-mentioned steps, which have been implemented in the commercial CAD/CAM system, Unigraphics, with API functions written in C-language. Finally, the proposed methods have been applied to model the blade of a steam turbine generator.

공구 형상 및 자세에 따른 금형 자유곡면 가공품질 향상에 관한 연구 (Improvement of Mold-Sculptured Surface Quality Based on Tool Shape and Posture)

  • This paper presents a study on the improvement of the machining quality of sculptured-surfaces of molds according to the shape and posture of the tool. In the existing 3-axis machining, the methods using the ball end-mill and radius end-mill were analyzed for various cutting patterns and compared with those of the 5-axis machining. It was observed that the 5-axis machining using a ball end-mill obtained the finest surface roughness, and for the 3-axis machining, the optimal results were obtained for the one-way machining using a radius end-mill.

곡면평활화를 고려한 공작기계상에서의 가공곡면 검사 (Machined Surface Inspection Based on Surface Fairing on the Machine Tool)

  • The assessment of machined surface is difficult because the freeform surface must be evaluated by surface fairness as well as dimensional accuracy. In this study, the machined freeform surface is modeled by interpolating the data measured on the machine tool into the mathematical continuous surface, and then the surface model is improved with the parameterization to minimize surface fairness. The accuracy reliability of the measured data is confirmed through compensation of volumetric errors of the machine tool and of probing errors. Non-uniform B-spline surface interpolation method is adopted to guarantee the continuity of surface model. Surface fairness is evaluated with the consideration of normal curvature on the interpolated surface. The validity and usefulness of the proposed method is examined through computer simulation and experiment on the machine tool.
