  • The objective of present study is to investigate the sensitivity of aerostatic force coefficients of twin box girder of Yi Sun-sin Bridge according to the Reynolds numbers. This paper presents the 1:30 scale sectional model tests conducted at high speed wind tunnel in Korea Air Force Academy. Comparison with results at low Reynolds number obtained in KOCED Wind Tunnel Center in Chonbuk National University is also provide. The Reynolds number dependency of aerodynamic force coefficients were observed at present streamlined twin box girder. The drag coefficient revealed significant decrease of nearby 23% at supercritical region. The boundary layer trip strip was found to reduce the Reynolds number dependency of aerodynamic forces by fixing the location of flow transition.

  • Numerical simulations of two-dimensional steady incompressible lid-driven flow in a square cavity are presented by a new solution code(PowerCFD) which adopts an unstructured cell-centered method. Solutions are obtained for configurations with a Reynolds number as high as 10,000 with both rectangular and hybrid types of unstructured grid mesh in order to validate the code's independency of grid type. Interesting features of the flow are presented in detail and comparisons are made with benchmark solutions found in the literature. It is found that the code is capable of producing accurately the nature of the lid-driven cavity flow at high Reynolds numbers with no grid type dependency.

  • In nuclear power plant, the reactor cooling system has maintained high-Reynolds-number flow above 1E+07 to cool a heat generated by the reactor. To minimize uncertainty for flow calibration, it is necessary to simulate the high Reynolds' number flow. Y-connection is selected to connect four (4) parallel high flow circulation pumps for maintaining the high flow rate. This paper describes the characteristics for Y-connection by computer flow simulation. It was confirmed through the results that the pressure loss of the Y-connection was lower than that of T-connection. Also as the connection angle of Y-connection was small, as the pressure loss was low.

  • Two-dimensional lid-driven closed flows within square cavity were studied numerically for four Reynolds numbers : $10^4$, 3$\times10^4$, 5$\times10^4$ and 7.5$\times10^4$. A convective difference scheme to maintain the same spatial accurary by irregular grid correction is adopted by applying the interior division principle. Grid number is $80\times80$and its minimum size is about 1/400 of the cavity height. At Re=$10^4$, periodic migration of small eddies appearing in corner separation region and its temporal sinusoidal fluctuation are represented. At three higher Reynolds numbers(3$\times10^4$, 5$\times10^4$ and 7.5$\times10^4$), an organizing structure of four consecutive vorticles at two lower corners is revealed from time-mean flow patterns. But, instantaneous flow characteristics show very random unsteady fluctuation mainly due to the interaction between rotating shed vortices and stationary eddies within the corners.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis based on the RANS equation and the Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is carried out for flows around an axisymmetric body at three Reynolds numbers($1.22{\times}10^7$, $1.0{\times}10^8$, $1.5{\times}10^8$) and the numerical results are compared with experiments data. Computed velocity distributions agree well with experiments as the Reynolds number increases. Pressure distributions agree well with the results of the potential flow except the tail region but differ from experiments for the parallel middle body as well as tail region. Pressure gradients show a good agreement with those of potential flow and experiment except the tail region. Friction coefficients show that the numerical results generally are lower than the experimental results estimated from the measured velocity. The difference of friction coefficients between the calculation and the experiment increases with growing of a boundary layer.

  • In this paper, the friction drag force of 3D submerged body is investigated by considering the surface roughness, the first grid height, and the Reynolds number using open CFD source code, OpenFOAM 4.0. A procedure for estimating drag components by CFD code is set up and suggested in this study. In the 3D submerged body, because of the form factor in the 3D computations, the friction resistance with the small roughness of $12{\mu}m$ obtains different result with the smooth wall. As the Reynolds number increased, the boundary layer becomes thinner and the fiction resistance tends to decrease. In the computations for the effect of y+, the friction resistance and wall shear stress are excessively predicted when the y+ value deviates from the log layer. This is presumably because the boundary layer becomes thicker and the turbulence energy is excessively predicted in the nose due to the increase in y+ value. As the roughness increases, the boundary layer becomes thicker and the turbulence kinetic energy on the surface increases. From this study, the drag estimation method, considering the roughness by numerical analysis for ships or offshore structures, can be provided by using the suggested the y+ value and surface roughness with wall function.
