Fabrication of Polymer Thin Films on Solid Substrates (고체 기판에 고분자 박막의 고정화)

  • Surface properties are important for determining the functions and uses of materials. So modification of materials with polymer thin films has emerged as an important method to control the physical and chemical properties of the surface layer. We report a simple and effective method to photochemically attach thin polymeric layers to solid surface without chemical derivatization of the substrate and/or the polymer. The system is based on a photoreactive poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) thin film which is formed on the $SiO_{2}$ surface via spin coating. This substrate is then covered with another polymer film that is reacted with the benzyl radical moieties by UV irradiation. As a result of photochemical reaction, a thin layer of the later polymer is covalently bound to the surface of P4VP. Unbounded polymer is removed by sonication. The thickness of the attached film is a function of the irradiation time and the molecular weight of the polymer. Spatially defined polymer thin films can be fabricated by way of photolithography.

Visualization of Internal Flows in the Wall-injected Test Model of a SRM (고체로켓모터 표면분사 시험모델의 유동 가시화)

  • The flowfield in a solid rocket motor was simulated at the wall-injection test model, which has a fin-slot grain and submerged nozzle, and visualized by a smoke-wire. The high speed CCD camera captured the visualized images around the nozzle inlet through the grain center port. The vortical tube structure and circumferential flow patterns at the nozzle throat were visualized. The radial momentum transfer caused by the shear-interactions of slot-outlet flow, fin-base flow and grain port flow from upstream worked as the source of these phenomena.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of optimal surface heating patterns that result in focusing acoustic energy inside a subsurface target volume at a specified target time. The surface of the solid is heated by an incident laser beam which gives rise to shear and compressional waves propagating into the solid. The optimal heating design process aims to achieve the desired energy focusing at the target with minimal laser power densities and minimal system disturbance away from the target. The optimality conditions are secured via the conjugated gradient method and by the finite element method along with using the half-space Green's function matrix. Good quality energy focusing is achived with the optimal designs reflecting the high directivity of the photothermally generated shear wave patterns.

Nitrided LATP Solid Electrolyte for Enhanced Chemical Stability in Alkaline Media (질화 처리된 LATP 고체전해질의 알칼라인 용액내에서의 내화학특성 개선 연구)

  • In the present work, to increase the chemical stability of the lithium-ion-conducting ceramic electrolyte ($Li_{1+x+y}Al_xTi_{2-x}Si_yP_{3-y}O_{12}$, LATP) in the strong alkaline solution, the surface of LATP was modified by the nitridation process. The surface and structural properties of nitride LATP solid electrolyte were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy and ac-impedance spectroscopy, which were correlated to the chemical stability and electrochemical performance of LATP. The nitrided LATP immersed in the alkaline solution for 30 days exhibits the enhanced chemical stability than the pristine LATP. Moreover, a rechargeable hybrid Li-air battery constructed with the nitrided LATP solid electrolyte shows considerably reduced discharge-charge voltage gaps (enhanced the round-trip efficiency) in comparison to the cell constructed with pristine LATP, which indicate that the surface nitridation process can be the efficient way to improve the chemical stability of solid electrolyte in alkaline media.

  • Fischer-Tropsch 합성 반응과 같은 slurry bubble column reactor에서는 반응 속도를 증진시키기 위해서는 서로 다른 상간의 접촉 면적을 최대화함으로써 물질 전달을 원활하게 유지하여야 한다. 특히 Fischer-Tropsch 합성 반응에서는 반응물인 기체가 촉매로서 기능하는 고체 표면으로의 external mass transfer가 효과적으로 이루어져야 하기 때문에 반응기 내의 기체의 거동뿐만 아니라 고체인 촉매의 분포에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 반응기 내에 기체의 superficial velocity를 변화시키면서 기체의 hold up 뿐만 아니라 고체 입자의 분포특성에 대하여 관찰하였다. Superficial velocity가 증가함에따라 gas hold up의 경우, 일정하게 증가하다가 6 cm/sec 이상에서 그 증가폭이 감소하였다. 즉 6 cm/sec이상에서 turbulent flow regime을 형성하였다. 또한 고체입자의 분포 역시 기체의 superficial velocity가 증가함에따라 보다 균일하게 되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 접촉각을 이용한 표면에너지 측정방법은 부품소재분야를 비롯한 폴리머 화학제품 등에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 그중 측정할 대상의 고체 표면에 액체 방울을 떨어뜨리고 측면 접점 방향에 대한 영상을 촬영하여 고체 표면과 액체 방울이 이루고 있는 각도를 측정하는 방식을 가장 많이 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 접촉각 측정기의 배경과 액체 방울 사이의 명암 차를 이용하여 경계선을 찾는 Sessile-drop 영상처리 기법을 보완 및 개선하기 위하여 캐니 에지 검출 알고리즘을 적용하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 분산강화 스테인리스강을 이용하여 케비테이션 발생 시 고체입자충격에 의한 재료의 침식메커니즘 및 침식저항성을 고찰하고자 하였다. 케비테이션 시간에 따른 침식저항성 측정결과, 기존재료에 비해 분산강화된 시편의 무게손실량이 낮았으며 침식잠복기가 짧고 침식속도가 낮아 전반적으로 우수한 저항성을 보였다. 이것은 침식표면의 손상메커니즘 관찰을 통해 확인할 수 있었다.

Assessment of Maximum Spreading Models for a Newtonian Droplet Impacting on a Solid Surface (고체 표면에 충돌하는 뉴턴 액적에 대한 최대 액막 직경 모델 검토)

  • The maximum spreading is the maximum extent to which a drop can spread after impacting on a surface. It is one of the crucial factors determining the spraying performance in many applications. In this study, the existing maximum spreading models for a Newtonian liquid droplet impacting on a dry solid surface were reviewed and compared with the experimental results over the ranges of $4{\leq}Re{\leq}11700$, $23{\leq}We{\leq}786$, and $37.9^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}_s{\leq}107.1^{\circ}$. The surface wettability was found to have only a minor influence on the maximum spreading, compared to the liquid viscosity and impact velocity. Among the models tested, the Roisman (2009) model showed the best agreement with the experimental results, matching 80% of the measured data within ${\pm}5%$.

  • Deeping on purpose, SAW device may have to function while immersed in a liquid. Those who are familiar with SAW devices would anticipate difficulty since the propagating surface waves will tend to radiate energy into the liquid and hence suffer attenuation. Thus, to design an immerable SAW device, more attention and full information about the wave properites is required to overcome the attenuation and get the highest SAW generation eficiency. Though numerical simulation, the optimal geometry of underwater SAW devices, such as optimal piezoelectric crystal cut, SAW propagation direction and nondimensional wave number(ka) is determined to get the maximum SAW excitation efficiency, the minimum attenuation in propagation and pure mode propagation for all the modes of surface wave propagation. The design technique can be appliedto an arbitrary combination of a piezoelectric layer, a substrate and a liquid medium. In this paper, PZT and PVDF layers and a steel substrate are use for the solid medium. The technique can be easily employed for the design of underwater sensors and actuators for the applications, such as sonar marine antifouling, industrial and medical uses.

A Study on Internal Ballistic Analysis of Solid Rocket Motor Using VOF Method (VOF 기법을 이용한 고체로켓모터의 내탄도 해석 연구)

  • In this study, Burning Area Analysis Program (BAAP) was developed by using VOF method to estimate the burning area of 3D shaped grain. The parametric study of mesh size, burning rate and time interval for numerical calculation was conducted. The result of BAAP is compared with the one from commercial 3D modeling software. Also the internal ballistic analysis was performed using the result of BAAP. In order to estimate the burning area and internal pressure with time, Chemical Equilibrium Analysis (CEA) was conducted with a composition of reduced smoke propellant. As a result, the web-averaged pressure was 5.34 MPa which is similar to the published research result.
