Mechanical Properties and Wear Performance of the Al7075 Composites Reinforced with Bimodal Sized SiC Particles (이종입자 강화 SiC/Al7075 금속복합재료의 압축특성 및 마모특성 연구)

  • In this study, we have investigated microstructure, mechanical properties and wear characteristic of aluminum metal matrix composites with a high volume fraction and uniformly dispersed SiC particles which produced by a liquid pressing process. The volume fraction of bimodal SiC/Al7075 composite was 12% higher than that of the monomodal SiC/Al7075 composite and a compressive strength is increased about 200 MPa. As a result of the abrasion test, the wear width and depth of the bimodal SiC/Al7075 composite were $285.1{\mu}m$ and $0.45{\mu}m$, respectively. The coefficient of friction of bimodal SiC/Al7075 was 0.16.

  • The authors designed a new technique to measure dielectric constant of a soil media by Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) system and its measurement sensor probe with different length such as 7m, 10cm and 15cm for estimating the variations of dielectric constant. Measurement of dielectric constant of soil material is possible to measure an interference wave generated by between incidence wave and reflection wave which are detected to electro-magnetic wave through the directional coupler at the high frequency range,0.1 to 1.7GHz, by FDR system. The obtained experimental results verified that the technique is very promising for non-destructive and continuous soil volumetric water content measurement monitoring in a laboratory. The relationship between the soil volumetric water content and the dielectric constant of soil media (standard sand) was expressed by a single regression ewe independent of soil texture at a small experimental error. Also the derived regression curve coincided well with that obtained by Topp curve.

Determination of the Volume Susceptibility of the Characterisitic Excretion in Stomach Cancer Urine by Chemical Shifts (화학적 이동에 의한 위암뇨의 특성배설물의 체적자화율 결정)

  • Recently NMR analyses of human urine show that the four proton NMR signals between 7 ppm and 8 ppm more frequently appear in stomach cancer urine than in normal and other diseased urine. These four NMR signals are found to be given by 7.25, 7.38, 7.63 and 7.80 in ppm. The calculations of spin coupling constants show that the NMR signals are identified as the four aromatic proton NMR signals of m-hydroxyphenyl rather than the ones of p-hydroxyphenyl. With this frequent appearance in the cancer urine, the cancer diagnosis has been made. In the present work, an attempt is made to determine the total volume susceptibility of the four aromatic proton NMR signals of the excreted m-hydroxyphenyl. The results of the attempt show that the volume susceptibilities of the above given values are as follows: 10.01${\times}$10$\^$-6/, 10.07${\times}$10$\^$-6/, 10.19${\times}$10$\^$-6/ and 10.27${\times}$10$\^$-6/. Hence its total susceptibility is 10.27${\times}$10$\^$-6/.

Retention Ratio of Dredged Soil at Incheon Habour Route using Self-Weight Consolidation Test (인천지역 항로 준설토의 침강자중압밀시험에 의한 유보율 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Self-weight consolidation test and soil property of dredged soil at Incheon habour route were analyzed to determine the initial dredging reclamation amount, reclamation depth, and estimating the required time of self-weight consolidation with calculation of the final planned height of dredging reclamation site. The moisture content, void ratio and ratio of volume change with elapsed time after throwing were estimated through Yano's empirical equation. As a result, there was a less variation in elements when fine-grained soil content was low as similarly to the behavior of coefficient of sedimentation-consolidation, Cs and the highest variation was shown at the fine-grained soil content of 50%. The retention ratio according to the fine grained soil content that could reinforce the comprehensive aspect of retention ratio for each particle size presented in the standard of estimate for reclamation construction work was calculated and presented using the calculated ratio of volume change.

  • Titanium carbide (TiC) reinforced SKD11 matrix composites were successfully fabricated by a novel liquid pressing infiltration process. Microstructure, mechanical properties, and wear characteristics of the fabricated 60 vol% TiC-SKD11 composite are analyzed. The composite exhibits superior mechanical properties, such as hardness and compressive strength with 24% lower density as compared with SKD11. Improved wear resistance of the TiC-SKD11 composite originates from uniformly reinforced TiC having strong interfacial bonding strength between TiC/SKD11 interface.

  • A tubular tormentor was prepared by packing the wood chips and pumping the yeast solution of Saccharomyces formosensis in a tubular column. Investigations to characterize the ethanol fermentation in the immobilized cell tubular fermentor and to compare such a fermentors with other type fermentors were undertaken. Ethanol productivity of 24.4g EtOH/$\ell$.hr has been obtained from glucose substrate. This productivity is higher or compared favourably with that reported in immobilized bio-reactors.

A Study on the Prediction of the Strength and Axial Strain of High-Strength Concrete Columns Confined by Tie Reinforcement (띠근 보강 고강도 콘크리트 기둥의 강도 및 축변형 특성 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The use of high-strength concrete which permits smaller cross sections, reduced dead loads, and longer spans has been getting more popular in tall buildings. However, there has been little research on behavior of high-strength concrete columns laterally reinforced with square ties and subjected to compressive loading. With the addition of transverse reinforcement which lead to triaxial compressive state, ductility behavior of high-strength column member shall be increased. In this study, rational quality and quantity evaluations were made to investigate the ultimate strength and strain ductility by confinement effect of tie reinforced high-strength concrete columns subject to uniaxial loads. Concrete failure theory at the triaxial compressive state and statistical results based on conventional experimental data were applied for this propose. Up to 185 columns, tested under monotonically increasing concentric loading, were evaluated in terms of strength and strain ductility. Analytical results show that confinement stress, maximum compressive strength, and increase of strain equations were developed with the consideration of concrete strength, yield strength, spacing, volumetric ratio, and configurations of tie reinforcement.

  • In this study, a device and pressure press process that is able to substitute autoclave process is developed. This process complements disadvantages of autoclave process which are long process-time and high production cost. The developed device provides air pressure as well as the vacuum which are greatest feature of autoclave process. The device is sealed using hydraulic pressure to keep the air pressure inside the mold. The transfer of the heat is designed to be direct. The heating and pressure charging time are decreased by reducing the interior space. Tooling cost is reduced dramatically compared to autoclave process. Spring-back phenomenon is measured and compared. The temperatures of several parts of the mold during molding are measured. The fiber volume fraction of the parts molded by autoclave process and by the developed process are compared.

The Properties of Flow and Compressive Strength of Mortar According In Replacement Ratio of Rapidly-Chilled Steel Slag Pine Aggregate (급냉 제강 슬래그 잔골재 대체율에 따른 모르타르의 유동성 및 압축강도 특성)

  • The steel slag, a by-product which is produced by refining pig iron during the manufacture of steel, is mainly used as road materials after aging. It is necessary to age steel slag for long time in air because the reaction with water and free-CaO in steel slag could make the expansion of volume. This problem prevents steel slag from being used as aggregate for concrete. However, steel slag used in this study was controled by a air-jet method which rapidly cools substance melted at a high temperature. The rapidly-chilled method would prevent from generation of free-CaO in steel slag. This study dealt with the influence of the using rate of rapidly-chilled steel slag on flow, dosage of SP, W/C ratio, and strength of mortar by statistical experimental design. Also, the results of this experiment were approved by statistical analysis methods, such as analysis of variance and F-testing. As results of F-testing, this paper proved at $1\%$ level of significance that the more the using rate of rapidly-chilled steel slag increased, the more this affected the enhancement of flow, the decrease of dosage of SP and W/C ratio, and the development of compressive strength. Also, considering the fluidity and compressive strength of mortar, it is desirable to use $75\%$ of rapidly-chilled steel slag for river sand.

  • 섬유강화 복합재료의 동탄성계수와 감쇠특성을 규명하기 위하여 랜덤하게 분포된 무한 실린더 형상의 산란체를 가진 점탄성 매질내에서 , 축방향으로 분극되어 조화 운동을 하는 탄성파의 전파에 관하여 연구하였다. 다중 산란에 관한 이론으 이용하여 매질내에서의 파동전파 특성을 내포하는 분산관계식을 얻었다. 다중산란에 의한 실린더간의 상호작용을 수식화하기위하여 필요한 실린더의 쌍분포함수는 몬테카를로 모의 실험을 이용하여 구하였다. 수치적으로 구한 감쇠계수 및 유효전단강성을 주파수와 체적율의 함수로 제시하였다. 또한 감쇠계수의 주파수에 따른 변화에 있어서, 저주파에서는 매질의 점탄성 손실이 지배적이며, 고주파수로 갈수록 다중산란에 의한 손실이 지배적인 것으로 나타났다.
