EKF has been widely used for GPS/INS integration as standard method but EKF has one well-known drawback. if the errors are not within the bounded region, the filter may be divergent. The particle filter has the advantage of the nonlinear and non-gaussian system. This paper proposes a method for compensating the GPS position errors based on the particle filter and presents loosely-coupled GPS/INS integration using proposed algorithm. We used GPS position pattern with particle filter and added attitude kalman filter for improving attitude accuracy. To verify the performance, the proposed method is compared with high cost GPS as reference. In the experimental result, we verified that the accuracy and robust were well improved by the proposed method filter effectively and robustness than by original loosely-coupled integration when vehicle turns at corner.

In this paper, we propose a high accurate geo-location system based on a single base station, where its location is obtained by Time-of-Arrival(ToA) and Direction-of-Arrival(DoA) of the radio signal. For estimating accurate ToA and DoA information, a MUltiple SIgnal Classification(MUSIC) is adopted. However, the estimation of ToA and DoA using MUSIC algorithm is a time-consuming process. The position tracking bias is occurred by the time delay caused by the estimation process. In order to mitigate the bias error, we propose the estimation method of the position tracking bias and compensate the location error produced by the time delay using the position tracking bias mitigation. For accurate self-localization of mobile robot, the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) with position tracking bias is applied. The simulation results show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed geo-location system and the enhanced performance when the Unscented Kalman Filter is adopted for mobile robot application.
GPS based car navigation systems show significant problems in such environment as a tunnel, a road surrounded by high buildings. In this study, we thus propose a method to determine positions and attitudes using only in-vehicle sensory data without a GPS. To check the feasibility of this method, we constructed a system to acquire in-vehicle sensory data and reference data simultaneously. We acquired test data using this system, estimated the trajectory based on the proposed method and evaluated the accuracy of both the sensory data and the trajectory. The speed and angular velocities provided by the in-vehicle sensors include 1.1 km/h and 0.8 deg/s RMS errors, respectively. The estimated trajectory using these data shows 20.8 m RMS errors for a 15 minute drive. In future, if we further combine additional sensors such as a camera and a GPS, we can achieve a high accurate navigation system at a low cost without an expensive high-grade external IMU.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-target estimation algorithm using the characteristics of signals in the IR-UWB(Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar system, which is attracting attention because it has good transparency, robustness to the indoor environment, and high precision positioning of tens of centimeters. We proposed an algorithm that estimates multiple peaks with the characteristic that the signal reflected by the target has a peak. To verify the performance of these algorithms, multiple targets were placed in front of the radar and the existing technique and the multi - target estimation algorithm were compared. The location of the targets is estimated in real time with one transmitting antenna and one receiving antenna. The number of estimates can be increased compared with the existing peak signal derivation method, and multiple targets can be derived. The conventional technique estimates only one target, which results in a mean square error of 1 while a multi - target estimation algorithm yields a result of about 0.05. The proposed method is expected to be able to apply multiple targets to the estimation and application in one IR-UWB module environment.
In this paper, we model a traffic of multiple tags operated in 2.45GHz band RTLS environment and analyze the multi-tag interference. Also, we propose a high precision location estimation algorithm of RTLS and then analyze its performance. From the results, the BER performance of RTLS degrades as the number of multi-tags increase in Gaussian noise and fading(m=15) environment. To meet the BER specification of RTLS, $10^{-5}$, we have to limit the multi-tag number to below 40. We also estimate the tag's location in $250m{\times}250m$ searching-area with enhanced TDOA scheme. It is confirmed that the 3m radius within accuracy of RTLS specification is satisfied, if the number of sub-blink receives more than 2 when available reader is 3 to 8.

Investigations of underground cavities are required to provide useful information for the reinforcement design and monitoring of the ground subsidence areas. It is, therefore, necessary to develop integrated geophysical techniques incorporating different geophysical methods in order to accurately image and to map underground cavities in the ground subsidence areas. In this study, we conducted geophysical investigations for development of integrated geophysical techniques to detect underground cavities at the field test site in the ground subsidence area, located at Yongweol-ri, Muan-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. We examined the applicability of geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity, electromagnetic, and microgravity to cavity detection with the aid of borehole survey results. The underground cavities are widely present within the limestone bedrock overlain by the alluvial deposits in the test site where the ground subsidences have occurred in the past. The limestone cavities are mostly filled with groundwater or clays saturated with water in the site. The cavities, thus, have low electrical resistivity and density compared to the surrounding host bedrock. The results of the study have shown that the zones of low resistivity and density correspond to the zones of the cavities identified in the boreholes at the site, and that the geophysical methods used are very effective to detect the underground cavities. Furthermore, we could map the distribution of cavities more precisely with the study results incorporated from the various geophysical methods. It is also important to notice that the microgravity method, which has rarely used in Korea, is a very promising tool to detect underground cavities.
KOorea Multi-purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT)-5 will be launched at 550km altitude in 2010. Accurate satellite position(20 cm) and velocity(0.03 cm/s) are required to treat highly precise Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) image processing. Ionosphere delay was eliminated using dual frequency GPS data and double differenced GPS measurement removed common clock errors of both GPS satellites and receiver. SAC-C carrier phase data with 0.1 Hz sampling rate was used to achieve precise orbit determination(POD) with ETRI GNSS Precise Orbit Determination(EGPOD) software, which was developed by ETRI. Dynamic model approach was used and satellite's position, velocity, and the coefficients of solar radiation pressure and drag were adjusted once per arc using Batch Least Square Estimator(BLSE) filter. Empirical accelerations for sinusoidal radial, along-track, and cross track terms were also estimated once per revolution for unmodeled dynamics. Additionally piece-wise constant acceleration for cross-track direction was estimated once per arc. The performance of POD was validated by comparing with JPL's Precise Orbit Ephemeris(POE).

For high-speed/high-accuracy position control of a gantry-moving-type linear motor, we propose a nonlinear adaptive controller including a synchronization algorithm. Linear motors are easily affected by force ripple, friction, and parameter variations because there is no mechanical transmission to reduce the effects of model uncertainties and external disturbances. Synchronization error is also caused by skew motion, model uncertainties, and force disturbance on each axis. Nonlinear effects such as friction and ripple force are estimated and compensated for. The synchronization algorithm is used to reduce the synchronous error of the two side pillars. The performance of the controller is evaluated via computer simulations.

The technology used to recognize the location and surroundings of autonomous vehicles is called SLAM. SLAM standsfor Simultaneously Localization and Mapping and hasrecently been actively utilized in research on autonomous vehicles, starting with robotic research. Expensive GPS, INS, LiDAR, RADAR, and Wheel Odometry allow precise magnetic positioning and mapping in centimeters. However, if it can secure similar accuracy as using cheaper Cameras and GPS data, it will contribute to advancing the era of autonomous driving. In this paper, we present a method for converging monocular camera with RTK-enabled GPS data to perform RMSE 33.7 cm localization and mapping on the urban road.

For calibration of the non-uniformity characteristics of the space-borne infrared (IR) sensor, a black body system shall provide estimated representative surface temperature at various reference temperatures by using the limited number of temperature sensors. The black body system proposed in this study has an I/F flange integrated on the rear side of the black body for installation of the heat pipe to transfer the residual heat after the black body heat-up. This design allows for obtaining a circular symmetric thermal contour of black body with low surface temperature gradient, leading to much easier representative temperature estimation. Additionally, this provides mechanically stable thermal I/F under launch and on-orbit environmental loads, as well as allowing a fail safe design by using the two heat pipes. Also, a highly accurate temperature estimation is possible even if the temperature sensors are attached on the surface on the rear side of the black body. The effectiveness of the thermal design of the proposed black body has been verified through the on-orbit thermal analysis. Based on the results, the representative surface temperature was estimated according to the number and position of the temperature sensors.
