The cover song refers to live recordings or reproduced albums. This paper studies two-dimensional Fourier transform as a feature-dimension reduction method to search cover song fast. The two-dimensional Fourier transform is conducive in feature-dimension reduction for cover song search due to musical-key invariance. This paper extends the previous work, which only utilize the magnitude of the Fourier transform, by introducing an invariant from phase based on the assumption that adjacent frames have the same musical-key change. We compare the cover song retrieval accuracy of the Fourier-transform based methods over two datasets. The experimental results show that the addition of the invariant from phase improves the cover song retrieval accuracy over the previous magnitude-only method.

Classification of fingerprints is one of the major subjects on which many researchers have been studying for efficient identification. But fingerprints should be preprocessed in various ways prior to being classified. Factors such as the accuracy and the processing time should be considered in classification of fingerprints. In this paper, we propose a method for classifying fingerprints into several frequent patterns. This method consists of two stages. A fingerprint image is first converted to a skeleton form to find out the center. Then it is identified as a member of one of preclassified pattern by the frequency domain feature. Experiments show that the proposed method is quite useful in classifying fingerprints into typical patterns.

When measuring the radiated noise of an underwater vehicle, range information between acoustic source and receiver is an important evaluating factor, but it cannot use GPS. There is a method of using the cross correlation for finding the range of the acoustic source instead of the GPS. However, this method has heavy computational loads. This paper proposes a fast Fourier transform based method with a relatively small amount of computation to estimate the range of a source. The proposed method estimates Doppler frequencies of CW signals received at multiple receivers by fast Fourier transform and estimates the source range by comparing theoretical Doppler frequencies map previously calculated by a receiver position and source depth information. Simulation and lake trial were performed to verify the performance.

This paper presents the high speed noise reduction processing system using the modified discrete fourier transform(MDFT) on the frequency domain. The proposed filter uses the linear prediction coefficients of the adaptive line enhance(ALE) method based on the Sign algorithm The signals with a random noise tracking performance are examined through computer simulations. It is confirmed that the fast adaptive digital filter is realized by the high speed adaptive noise reduction(HANR) algorithm with rapid convergence on the frequency domain(FD).

Recently, monitoring respiration of people has been of interest using non-invasive method. Among the vital signals usually used for indicating health status, non-invasive and portable device based monitoring respiratory status is practically useful and enable one to promptly deal with abnormal physical status. This paper proposes the approach to real-time detection of apnea signal based on Short-Time-Fourier-Transform(STFT). Contrary to the analysis of a signal in frequency domain using Fast-Fourier Transform, this paper employs Short-time-Fourier-Transform so that frequency response can be analyzed in short time interval. The respiratory signal is acquired using UWB radar sensor that enables one to obtain respiration signal in contactless way. Detection of respiratory status is carried out by analyzing frequency response, and classification of respiratory status can be provided. In particular, STFT is employed to analyze respiratory signal in real-time, leading to effective analysis of the respiratory status in practice. In the case of existence of noise in the signal, appropriate filtering process is employed as well. The proposed method is straightforward and is workable in practice to analyze the respiratory status of people. To evaluate the proposed method, experimental results are provided.

In this paper, it is suggested that the technology sound measurement which is to search the inferiority of the plate during the pressing. We evaluate whether there is a inferiority by analysing and comparing the satisfactory and inferior plate with the method of a spectrum analysis by measuring the sound which is emitted during pressing. We designed the analysis algorithm to detect inferior plate throughout comparison of measured sound data using FFT, DFT and DASYLab S/W. In addition to these, we suggest the way to compare both inferior and satisfactory signal statistically.
In this paper, a new speech endpoint detection method in noisy environments for moving robot platforms is proposed. In the conventional method, the endpoint of speech is obtained by applying an edge detection filter that finds abrupt changes in the feature domain. However, since the feature of the frame energy is unstable in such noisy environments, it is difficult to accurately find the endpoint of speech. Therefore, a novel feature extraction method based on the twice-iterated fast fourier transform (TIFFT) and statistical models of speech is proposed. The proposed feature extraction method was applied to an edge detection filter for effective detection of the endpoint of speech. Representative experiments claim that there was a substantial improvement over the conventional method.

In ultrasonic nonlinear parameter measurement using the fast Fourier transform(FFT) of tone-burst signals, the side lobe and leakage on spectrum because of finite time and non-periodicity of signals makes it difficult to measure the harmonic magnitudes accurately. The window function made it possible to resolve this problem. In this study, the effect of the Hanning and Turkey window functions on the experimental measurement of nonlinear parameters was analyzed. In addition, the effect of changes in tone burst signal number with changes in the window function on the experimental measurement was analyzed. The result for both window functions were similar and showed that they enabled reliable nonlinear parameter measurement. However, in order to restore original signal amplitude, the amplitude compensation coefficient should be considered for each window function. On a separate note, the larger number of tone bursts was advantageous for stable nonlinear parameter measurement, but this effect was more advantageous in the case of the Hanning window than the Tukey window.
In this paper, we propose an optical correlator system using volume holograms for database of matched filters. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the fingerprint recognition.
