  • There are the C.W.C and Towing Tank to the model-test equipments of the boat. A model testing of the high speed boat have a difficult in the performance verification because of very a small the scale-ratio of the ship-model and restricted by flow-velocity of the C.W.C and X-carriage velocity of the T.T. In general, the stepped hull boat is a high of fuel-efficiency because of the resistance reduction by a small wetted surface-area in correspond without stepped-hull boat. But It have a tendency to be bad the rolling performance by reduced stern wetted-area In this paper, the high speed stepped planning-boats with & without attached a stern body were performed to compare the effect of resistance and rolling performance by using sea model-test method.

  • High speed marine vehicle, such as semi-planing, planing craft have been developed recently. These ships paid attention to the resistance characteristics, especially in high speed region. Model test method is divided to two equipment greatly, first 'Towing tank', second 'C.W.C.'. It is difficult to estimate a resistance characteristics for high speed boat. because these are made for low speed ship. This paper suggests a new model test method and system. This is real sea model test and it's comprised of eight part. Firstly, This method is tested at C.W.C that is possible to using in real sea model tes using low speed boat modelt. And then, Real sea model test and CFD calculation are performed and compared with tow way used high speed boat model. It can be a good way to estimate a performance for high speed boat.

  • An experiment of rapid pressurization-induced crack propagation of solid propellant was conducted by using a windowed test chamber. A pre-cracked specimen of solid propellant is installed in the chamber, and highly compressed nitrogen gas in an accumulator pressurizes the chamber until the chamber pressure reaches set-up pressure to make the chamber depressurization. Pressure-time trace was obtained from the experimental result, and pressurization rate was defined from the trace. In this study, three pressurization rates (64.34, 73.86 and 85.44 MPa/s) are considered, and propagation lengths are measured. Also, a progression of the crack propagation recorded by a high-speed digital camera is presented.

  • It is well known that when a high-speed planing craft travels in following seas it experiences long-periodic motions due to low encounter frequency, and it often loses its course keeping stability. Therefore, it is necessary to study the sea-keeping performance and stability of it in the following seas. In this paper, the vertical motions of a planing craft were measured in following regular waves, and the test results were compared with the theoretical results. In the case of the same encounter frequency, non-dimensionalized motion amplitudes become larger as Froude number is higher, and non-dimensionalized motion amplitudes in head waves are larger than those in following waves. The mean values of the motions in following waves are similar to the running attitudes of a craft in calm water at the same Froude number.

  • The running attitude of a high-speed planing craft may change significantly depending on its speed in seaway. Other variables that may influence its running attitude are its weight, center of gravity, sea conditions, and so on. In this paper, planing craft model tests were carried out with respect to above variables in SNU towing tank, and vertical motion responses of a planing craft in regular head waves were analyzed. The experimental results in regular waves were compared with those in calm water, and compared with the theoretical estimations. Finally, the effects of running speeds of a planing craft on its motion amplitudes are confirmed.

  • There are various reports on the fracture of mechanical heart valves implanted in human or animal, and they are pointed out that problems are induced by an erosion of disk surface, due to a cavitation effect. We have been investigating this mechanism using accelerated fatigue tester, and it was found that erosion was enhanced by a compliance effect in the test circuit. In this study, effects of compliance value and location on erosion were discussed, while disk closing velocity was measured by a high speed video camera. It was clarified that faster closing velocity was resulting in a enhancement of erosion on the disk surface.

  • Motion characteristics of a planing craft are sensitively changed according to its weight and longitudinal center of gravity. In this paper, planing craft model tests were performed in calm water for various test conditions and Froude numbers. Sinkage and trim were measured to analyze the relations between the attitudes of a planing craft and the weight and center of gravity of it. Theoretical formula for the prediction of the attitudes of a prismatic planing hull was modified so that it can be applied to the prediction of the attitudes of a non-prismatic planing hull, and the calculation results by the modified formula were in good agreements with the experimental data.

  • A study on the new active type oil-water separation system including the oil-water separation system of magnetic film was carried out. Separation system is composed of several active types of circulating oil separation steps and one magnetic film separation step at final stage. At the magnetic separation step, ferrofluid easily forms a weak magnetic mixture with oil, which is from the water by magnetic field gradient. The vessel has been designed to run at the maximum speed of 25 knots. And two typical forms of SWATH and Catamaran have been studied as a new type of oil recovery vessel.
