  • THE THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASING DEMAND FOR THE NOISE IMPACT ASSESMENT BY HIGH-SPEED TRAINS DUE TO THE EXPANSION OF HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY. THIS PAPER PROVIDES STRATEGIES FOR THE EVALUATION AND THE ASSESSMENT OF THE POTENTIAL NOISE IMPACT RESULTING FROM PROPOSED HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY. FIRSTLY THE NOISE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE RAILWAY NOISE HAVE BEEN REVIEWED, AND THE STRATEGIES OF THE NOISE IMPACT ASSESMENT FOR HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY NOISE ABATEMENT HAVE BEEN DESCRIBED.

  • Noise pollution from a high speed train has been a serious social issue nowadays. Especially when a train speed exceeds 300km/hr, an aerodynamic noise level has been known to be increased based on 4-6th power laws. In this paper, a simple approach to evaluate the sensitivity effect on noise due to the speed change has been examination.

  • In order to control the railway noise, the radiation characteristic of the noise during the train passage should be analyzed. Generally, the major noise sources for Korean Train Express are the rolling noise and power unit noise up to 300km/h. In this paper, we describe on a train model that is considered to be a row of point sources to calculate the radiation characteristic. The calculation results are compared with short distance measurement. It is shown that the radiation characteristic of the rolling noise is dipole type. The noise generated by the power unit is radiated as the cosine type. The noise level at an observer is increased in the direction of motion and reduced in the direction opposite to the motion with increasing of the train speed. The calculation results including the moving effect of the noise source at 300km/h show in good agreement.

  • Recently, the ride comfort problem becomes increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup. The concept of ride comfort is equivocal. Generally, it is defined as the body vibration. The commercial high-speed train must be run the compound line in Korea which is composed of high-speed line and conventional line. In this paper, the ride comfort has been reviewed by the various experimental methods when the high-speed train is operated on both lines. The results show that the high-speed train has no problems from the viewpoint of the comfort ride during the operation on both lines.
